Banknetic, now Atkinson's trade post/home
Noon.
Atkinson was chilling in his new curb checking out the giant vault in the basement.
He decided a few days ago to go for Lethocerus Zombies, all it needed was flesh and fungi which he had plenty of outside.
What should I name him? Hmm.
Cocoon? Motherlode? EggCarrier?
OK, Motherlode it is! It's basically a living machine that makes zombies!
When a cocoon would hatch, the terrifying insectoid humans would be indirectly under control of Atkinson and directly under control of the Lethocerus Zombies.
This way he could raise a terrifying zombie army in mere days. They are very obedient and good at following simple instructions.
Think of the motherlode as the coding hub and the codes are the instructions that the insectoid zombies would automatically follow from birth.
If anything went wrong, he could just directly order motherlode to cease its life
Nowadays, it's been pretty lonely for Atkinson since he didn't have anyone to talk to, except for the dead of course.
They're mostly great listeners, not so great for conversations.
Atkinson expected to see maybe a few straggling survivors but he never saw any.
Stake the stalker was by the main doors guarding, while Motherlode was hunched in a corner of the basement munching on delicious mixed meats.
There was liver, very healthy and lots of other organs. There wasn't much of any muscle flesh as they are mostly consumed by fungi.
Motherlode never moved from the corner for the days to come, after all the food came to him. He was in a way, the undead cattle.
Motherlode has already hatched 20 cocoons since the past few days, although Atkinson didn't know how long it takes for one to hatch.
Atkinson was sitting on a chair looking curiously with his brows furrowed at the large circular titanium vault door.
There was a passcode keypad, finger print, plus a keyhole. He found the fingerprint and lock pretty easily, there was a zombie who looked like the manager of the bank who had the key on his body.
When each Lethocerus Zombie was born, he ordered it to tidy up the bank and organize it. When there were 10 of them, he ordered the rest to guard the bank.
They were located in very discreet places, trash bins, dumpsters, the roof of the bank, and next to Stake the stalker.
Finding the last key was difficult, the passcode was probably in the computer system of the bank.
Power for the computer wasn't a problem but he doesn't have the passcode to open the computers.
He also doesn't know anything about cyber hacking and learning through books would take months.
Sighing in defeat, he walked upstairs to the second floor, he was exhausted.
He grabbed a paper bag of Milano cookies and a can of coke from the kitchen drawers and placed them on the table in the lounge room.
After that, he walks into the mini-vault, grabs his laptop and walks back to the lounge.
He laid down lazily like Garfield the cat and began to surf through his hard-drive. He was looking for some games to pass the time and relax.
Before he gets started, he enters his mind once again, today's mission will be searching and collecting weapons for his insectoid zombies.
He ordered the 10 insectoid zombies to search through gun shops, police stations for weapons and protective gear, and also pharmacies for medicinal items.
I should probably get some books on programming and cybersecurity as well.
They searched in groups of five.
Meanwhile, the first group of the Lethocerus Zombies
Zombies communicate with each other in their own language, to not waste anyone's time with an in depth explanation of how zombies talk to each other, a translation will be necessary.
The motherlode has influence on its hatchlings no matter where they are but they only have direct influence within a kilometer in radius.
Their wings buzz quietly in the air as they fly at high speeds through broken buildings and streets.
Some time later, at around sunset, Atkinson could see that they came across a police station.
It looks like a large modern kind of police station, the Lethocerus Zombies flies around the compound for any survivors.
There's a helipad and a couple of police cars in the parking lot. A few zombies are seen lingering around.
After they were done scouting, they entered through the large front doors.
It was a mess, although there isn't a lot of vegetation to be seen, the reception area was strewn with random papers on the floor.
Rust is seen on the roof and parts of the floor, lights seem to be out, the generator could have stopped working.
The general vibe of abandonment and eeriness presents itself.
Anyways, zombies don't have emotions and frankly wouldn't care.
Atkinson let themselves freely search for weapons and confiscated items.
He moves his consciousness to focus onto the second group of Lethocerus Zombies.
They haven't found a hospital nor a pharmacy yet but they are coming across a fire station.
It is equally important to have not only supplies and medicine but also a strong and solid vehicle to travel in the apocalypse.
It seems that all of the firetrucks are still in good condition, the gas inside the gas tank was probably starting to go stale.
Gas usually takes around 3 months to evaporate and turn bad.
No matter, he had stocked up on a few types of gasoline, diesel for large vehicles and octane gasoline for normal cars.
He didn't bother to get any environmentally friendly E85 gasoline because who cares about the environment when maybe 99% of the world has been eliminated or turned into fungi monsters.
Anyways, Atkinson felt better seeing the 3 large sturdy looking fire trucks. He'll modify it when he brings it home.
He let the Lethocerus Zombies search on their own for anything useful, if not then he will get them to drive it back to his base of operations.
Atkinson opens his eyes and begins eating and playing video games.
Atkinson thought about what his mission or goal in the apocalypse should be. He wants to rebuild mankind's lost technology and knowledge.
The reason behind this is because, he knows as mutations and enabled becomes more and more common, what makes them or him different from humans?
The apocalypse probably wouldn't be gone in a few years or decades, the fungi zombies will probably also mutate and become stronger or just as strong as the enabled.
Recovering humanity's peak of existence is what he wanted. In a mysterious way, he wants to rebuild civilization.
He knows that food from the before-fore times would eventually run out or rot. Although he could eat them, doesn't mean he wants to live off of disgusting food.
So finding agriculture's, scientists, and farmers would solve that problem. Fortifying bases and trucks require mechanics and more scientists.
All the reason to get people into his base. Besides he's not planning to be some kind of lone wolf.
That's just too narcissistic and antisocial.
In an apocalypse, it is important to stay in groups.
With living humans preferably, as it can take a toll on anyone's mental health if they live with some random inanimate objects like Wilson the volleyball or undead zombies for the rest of their life.
He just hopes for now, that he finds people who aren't part of any big groups like Carl. Preferably people with higher education.
After a few hours, the Lethocerus Zombies driving the fire trucks were on the highway not at full speed.
There are always random cars and trucks that were long abandoned. Driving responsibly would make sure the fire trucks are not damaged on the way back to base.
