Chapter 1 - Prologue

"I forgot that this heart that I have in me, is yours. It's always been yours, so you can break it and mend it as much as you want. I will still be here. I will always be here."

*Seven Years Ago*

I told my mom. Yeah, I know. What the hell was I even thinking? My secret crush on my brother's best friend is no longer a secret. After 2 years of crushing on him, admiring his smile from afar and hearing his voice only when he talked to the boys. Mom finally caught up with my nervousness and odd behaviors when it came to Cristian Conner.

How did it happen?

Well, I wasn't being careful enough. All this year perfecting the lies and the sneaking around made me want to throw caution out of the window. That and the curious atmosphere that surrounded me when I saw Cris walking with my brother, Dylan, towards his room.

They were talking about some girls... like always, but this time something caught my interest. Cris wasn't even paying attention to the topic of the hot girl with a big butt.

He seemed distracted, thinking about something. He nodded to everything Dylan blabbed about but didn't say any side comments or jokes.

Dylan hasn't detected the changes in Cris's behavior ...yet.

I decided to activate my stalker mode without any plan or lie that could save me if I were to be spotted.

I followed them to Dylan's room and listened carefully through the door. The voices could be heard loud and clear.

I used the walls and doors of this house to my advantage. Everything could be heard from anywhere. It was like a big echo house.

"What's wrong with you man? Talk to me about Claire... Clare?... Carla? ...Cece? The hot girl that approached you today at lunch"

"Thea?" The confusion in Cris's voice could be heard form miles away.

"Yeah, that one!"

Brother, you disgusting pig, you weren't even close to guessing her name.

"Can we talk about something else?" Cris said at the same time as I heard the cushion of the bed squeak.

"Hell Nah, I want to know how you got her to talk to you!" Dyl sounded excited. Obviously, because the hottest girl in his grade just talked to his best friend.

"Truth?"

My mom's voice made me jump away from the door in a flash. My heartbeat raised in panic while my eyes roamed around the hallway trying to find a way to escape. "What are you doing?"

"N-nothing! Nothing. I got to go bye!" I quickly said, speeding past her and heading for the stairs.

"Wait!" Mom said firmly, making me pause in my stance.

She walked towards my brother's door and opened it. By now I was trembling in nervousness, wishing to disappear off the face of the world.

Her eyes scanned the room briefly and stopped at the two boys sitting in the bed looking at her.

"The food will be done in half an hour, boys," Mom said smoothly. They nodded their head and continued the conversation while mom closed the door completely behind her.

"What were you doing? Eavesdropping on their conversation?" She asked, walking towards me with her hands crossed.

"Nothing, I wasn't eavesdropping!"

"Truth Evangeline..." she trailed. No, not the whole middle name!

"I-I was listening," I said, turning around walking downstairs.

"Don't turn your back on me, young lady. Why were you 'listening'?"

"Nothing, let it go, mom..." Quite frankly, I'm afraid of how she was going to react. She was always so straight forward and couldn't keep a secret even if her life depends on it. Besides, Cris was just like Dylan. A boy of many girls.

Dylan's morals were nonexistent and were less of a man than Cris, but that doesn't change the fact that they are starting to become players.

"Tell me now, Truth Santana"

"Mom, where is my blue Barbie crop top" Alana, my sister, interpreted us. Thank God for her.

"In the hamper, start washing your clothes and maybe one of these days you could wear it..." mom said, sitting on the couch of the living room.

"That's not fair! I have an appointment to dye my hair today! I had the whole outfit planned"

"First of all you are only 14 years old and I haven't given you permission to change the color of your hair... again. Second, I told you yesterday to wash your clothes. It's not my problem anymore" mom voiced going out all commander on her.

"UGH! FINE!" Alana stomped on her way back upstairs and into her room.

"And you," she said, pointing a finger to me.

"Who? Me? I haven't done anything wrong!"

"Come sit beside me right now," I sighed and stepped towards her, getting comfortable in the couch beside her.

"Tell me. What are you hiding from mama?" I hate it when she called herself that? It's creepy and ridiculous.

"Nothing, mom. Let it go," I said again, resting my head on the headrest of the couch.

"I can tell that something is bothering you a lot. Have you at least talk to your girls about it?" I shook my head sideways, no of course not.

If anyone finds out about my crush. That'll be it for me. It'll be the most humiliating situation of my 10-year-old life.

I will probably die from embarrassment.

"Then tell mama. It must be pretty big if you haven't talked to the girls." I curled up to the side of my mom's arm, holding on tight.

"I... I have this... thing" Yep, a thing. A pretty huge thing called 'Crush on Cris'.

"Does it have to do something with your brother?" she asked, circling her comforting arms around me and resting her chin on my head.

"He might play a little part on it, but no it has nothing to do with Dyl" I shake my head with my response.

"Then what is this...thing?"

"I have feelings for Cris"
