Fear. It's one of the basic human emotions. As kids, we were afraid of everything. The dark. The boogeyman under the bed. Ghosts and the likes. And we pray for morning. For the monsters to go away. Though they never do. Not really.
Happiness is also one of those emotions, and that's the only thing that keeps us going. To feel happy with our friends and family, even in this Godforsaken town. We let our emotions, our happiness to take over, to let us believe that there is still hope even in a town that's been run over by darkness and despair.
That's who we are, the people of a town that—because of just one action—was filled with layers and layers of shadows. Amazing how just one small action can create a web of unexpected—and—unimaginable events. Sometimes tragic and sometimes fruitful, no one can really predict what would happen in the future.
It's been a few weeks since I gave Sydney her tour, we've talking every now and then because of it. The more we talked, the more I knew about her. It's also time for me to get investigating again. But before that, I need to get the necessary things that I need to form a club. Principal Le Grande has been nagging about it, saying that it needs to be done soon.
However I still don't know what the club would be and what would the members do in the club. So I asked help from my fried Patrick already had some splendid idea. He said that I could make a "Grim Haven Detective Club" and that he'd also join the club. His idea could actually pretty good, We could use our club time to investigate the case. And with that the Grim Haven Detective Club was formed and with two active members already.
After school we hang out for a bit in our new club room, together with Pauleen and Sydney, who just now heard about the incident. We talked about what we knew so far about it, each of us thinking about what really happened that day. And by the end of our little discussion, the Grim Haven Detective Club had got itself two more members, making it four members in total.
We drove the girls home before nightfall, after that Patrick and I started investigating again, we came back to scene of the crime to find some more clues that would further help us in our investigation. But an unpredictable event suddenly happened, before we could reach the lake someone confronted us, someone who we know very well.
"Well Well, what do we have here? Trying to sneak to a crime scene eh, you guys know that that's going to be trouble," the voice said, as his silhouette approached as. It is Axel Lawrence, a childhood friend of ours, he's also a member of my dad's gang. And ever since we grew distant from each other.
"We don't want any trouble Axel," said Patrick, seems like he really don't want to fight Axel
"It's just like Pat said Axel, we don't want trouble but if you get in our way, I won't hold back,"
"Ohhh scary, I agree so don't be like that, you're here to gather clues right? Here catch," he said, as he tossed a container to me "It's a vial containing arsenic trioxide I found it in the woods near the lake. When I saw you snooping around here, I knew you were up to something, you're going to be in trouble one day 'cause of what you're doing."
"He sent you to keep an eye on me, didn't he Axel?" I asked
"It's normal for a parent to worry about his child," he replied, smiling as he did
"Thanks Axel, but I can take care of my own,"
"Well, you aren't qualified to lead us if you can't even handle yourself,"
He didn't change one bit, still expecting me to take the throne, but like I always told him, I won't ever take up my father's will. As he heard what I said he replied,"You say that now, but you'll take his throne for sure." Well enough about the Spectres, I didn't even think that Axel could found more than just the vial...
It's been over a month since that tragic accident, and the news about Vien's death has already died down. but when the local sheriff received a tip and discovered the body of Hal Gremory, everyone in town would be talking about it all over again.
I think many of us, maybe the entire town, had been hoping against hope that what happened to Vien and Hal hadn't been an accident. That we'd come to school monday morning and there they'd be. Or that we'd see them in a booth at the Shack. But that was before the undeniable and irrevocable fact of Hal's bloated, water logged body, a corpse with three bullet holes in it. One in the head and two through the chest, and the terrible secrets that could only be revealed by the cold, steel blade of the coroner's autopsy scalpel.
The local sheriff, Sheriff Smith, ruled it out as homicide. They'd started to investigate the matter right away. Meanwhile, at the House of Gremory, Lucius Gremory, Virginia Gremory, and Christian Gremory were mourning the loss of a family member. They'd would hold the funeral after Hal's autopsy. We couldn't examine Hal's body when we first found 'cause we felt bad about deesecrating the dead so, we let Dr.Cunning handle the examination, we'd just get the information from him after the autopsy because that would be easier than doing it ourselves.
Dark and Light. Good and Evil. Life and Death. As the lines that separated these polar opposites blurred and distorted. Grim Haven was officially a town of shadows and secrets now.
On Monday the autopsy on Hal's body would take place, and on Tuesday halfway through the 4th period of class, the first arrest would be made...
