Chapter 17 - Azure Dragon Flood Techniques

Once the young miss announced the beginning of there sparring, she immediately rushed towards Leon like an incoming wave.

The odd movements caught Leon by surprise but he was able to quickly adapt to the burst of speed due to his earlier preparations.

Ari's movements began to resemble a continuous river through which hidden dangers lurked. Like the change in the waves of the sea or the riffles of a stream she began utilizing a unique footwork that flowed like water itself.

Throughout these fluid motions she threw many concise punches and kicks in multiple attempts to break through Leon's defenses.

However, Leon was as mysterious as his aura she had previously tested and he continuously dodged her attacks as if he was a void that swallowed all her movements.

This type of one-sided onslaught continued as one side attacked and the other dodged or countered without retaliation.

Through the use of continuous attacks and movements Leon's opponent slowly decreased her stamina to the point where her movements weren't as precise as earlier.

Seeing the slight decrease in her speed and attacks, Leon decided to launch his own offensive as he began to push his opponent back.

Multiple punches and kicks imbued with a minute amount of his internal energy were enough to drive his opponent towards exhaustion.

After a hour and an half Ari was unable to continue with her depleted internal energy and stared at her unwavering opponent as she crouched on the training floor, resting her elbow on her knee releasing heavy gasps.

'He definitely deserves the rank of a peak inner disciple at the sect...'

After witnessing the amount of control Leon held over his strength, Ari began to get a stronger feeling of that never ending void that rendered her attacks useless.

'What is his technique and colored attribute I wonder?'

Curiosity began surging through Ari as she tried to determine the secrets her sparring partner held but knew that it would be difficult to reveal.

"That was pretty good for our first session. The only thing you lack is the fighting experience since you have a decent amount of techniques and control that is better than average for your level."

Leon intervened with her thinking as he gave some pointers and his initial analysis on her strength.

Standing across from her with his arms crossed, Leon began walking over to her while offering a hand to stand back up as if he wasn't exhausted from the exchange.

"These techniques are known as the Azure Dragon flood techniques which have helped me surpass the many youths in my generation, but it seems I still have much to learn and experience."

The drained Ari sighed as she accepted the support of her new teacher while Leon began to realize the benefit of a family backing you.

'She has all the techniques of her family available to her and with their status can obtain resources easily. Her growth should be unhindered as long as she gets the necessary experience.'

Thinking back to the amount of money Leon had spent on the herbs that fueled his internal energy to reach new heights, he could only sigh at the thought of gaining resources as easily as the young woman in front him could.

'Although I have the backing of the FallenStar organization to help with my training, it's still not as fruitful compared to a high ranking family that doesn't need to divide its expenditures as much and could invest most of it into their heirs.'

Realizing the difference in the expenses between his organization and the family he now momentarily served, Leon understood the need to push FallenStar further into the leading groups of society.

'Plus I still need to take over the east quarter of the city in order just to stand on even ground with Armani.'

These further realizations resulted in another inward sigh that escaped Leon's thoughts as he helped pick up his sparring partner/employer.

The weeks quickly passed with Leon dividing his remaining time after sparring with trying to understand the unique flood techniques of the Jiaolong family from the sparring which only amounted to be a fruitless endeavor.

Leon occasionally visited the special cultivation room in the training facility in order to gain just a pinch of enlightenment that could supplement his training and understanding.

However, every time he felt a relatively small understanding of the techniques it would soon disappear from his mind for unknown reasons, further increasing his frustrations.

Currently in meditation before the dark azure door now on his last day at the Jiaolong mansion, Leon stood up with the same results as before.

'It's almost as if the knowledge for these techniques and cultivation are forbidden for me, but I can't understand why.'

Lost in deep concentrated thought over the predicament, Leon didn't notice the head of the family approaching him from behind until a deep voice was heard from behind him.

"What your attempting to understand is useless for you."

The head softly spoke next to the youth as he to stared at the mysterious door while putting his hand on the youth's shoulder that had helped his daughter a lot within the past weeks.

"What I mean is that these techniques are unsuited for your body since you hold a different attribute than the one you are attempting to learn."

Confused by the words of the man next to him, Leon gazed up from his seated position and questioned the senior.

"What are these different attributes senior? I've heard of them a couple times but don't understand their meaning or importance."

Hearing the ignorant question of the talented youth, the head could only let out a small chuckle as he decided he would offer a little advice for the service Leon had offered his family.

"In the vast world of martial arts and cultivation there are the basic principles that exist for every practitioner. In the early stages of their development these principles don't really apply until reaching your level and the ones above, since most techniques in those stages are defined as "colorless".

However, for practitioners that wish to rise above the human defined levels they need to understand their principles and attribute.

After listening to my daughter's multiple accounts about your matches I've become curious in what yours may be and have a couple theories."

As Leon intently listened to the advice from the head, he began to understand the vastness of the martial art and cultivation world, and tried to imagine what his attribute could be as the head continued.

"Based off my daughter's intel, I was surprised when she mentioned the image of a void when fighting you, and as I inspect you closer I can see traces of this in your unique aura.

This leads me to my theories that you are of either the rare white or black attributes, but I am still unsure of this since your aura holds faint traces of both within it.

It's almost as if the darkness within you hides a bright light that feeds off your void like aura in an unstable balance."

After hearing the last theory of the head, Leon was reminded of the words from the mysterious elder he had met during his passage of the eight immortal gates and couldn't help remember his warning of the imbalances in his body.

"Well, if you do decide on the path of cultivation you should pay close attention when the forming of your spiritual sea takes place inside your lower dan tian. The colors of the waters in your spiritual sea will ultimately determine which attribute you hold."

Remembering the days when his own spiritual sea was formed, the head reminisced as he stared at the azure door lost in thought for a few moments before leaving Leon.

Leon was unable to notice the departing of the head as he began his concentration again, but this time was focused on the new information he had received instead of the door.

'The martial arts and techniques I've learned till now and the ones I obtained in my previous life must have been of the colorless attribute. Which explains their minute power when compared to the martial artists I had met before.

So, I am unable to learn martial arts that are not of my attribute it seems and what is this spiritual sea and dan tian he mentioned. I must do some research when I return to the sect.'

Deciding it was pointless to dwell on the matter since he had no information regarding their existence or purpose, Leon slowly stood up from his meditation as he went back to his room in the mansion to prepare for the last day of sparring before he returned.

The last day of sparring with the young miss was a lot more difficult considering her improvement and her accumulating knowledge of Leon's movements from sparring every day.

By the time they finished their exchange both youths were drenched in sweat and exhausted but Leon had still won due to his increase in speed when using silent strides.

The past couple of exchanges Leon had resorted to using his technique since the young miss had become accustomed to his movements, and even began to land a few blows when he used silent strides to his fullest capabilities.

However, Leon still won due to the difference in level even if only by a small margin.

"Hu, Hu, seems I'm still unable to beat disciple Roan even after all this training."

The gasping Ari admitted defeat as she stood up while staggering slightly from exhaustion before bowing.

"Thank you for your instruction."

Listening to Ari finally admit defeat after a couple hours compared to their first exchange, Leon gave a small smile in reply and accepted her thanks.

"You've improved quite a bit compared to the first day. I can't wait to see the heights you reach eventually when you become even stronger."

Hearing the praise from her aloof sparring partner, Ari blushed slightly as she turned her gaze towards the mysterious youth that she had fought with for the past two weeks and admired his strength.

"I hope we can meet in the future so I can finally beat you then."

Leon released a small chuckle as he bowed in return and wiped the sweat from his forehead on his black sect uniform's sleeve.

"Maybe... If the heavens allow it then I'm sure we will meet."

Over the past two weeks Leon had began to like the similar personality the young miss held to his own and was slightly sad to be departing.

However, in order to gain more strength he knew he could not dwell in the mansion any longer, or the young miss would indeed surpass him and returned to the Shuangdao sect as planned.

Once he returned to his inner disciple habitation, Leon couldn't help but think over the information he had received from the head of the Jiaolong family and the mysterious elder.

'The strongest martial artists in my past life were all cultivators that had unfathomable techniques and power. In order to surpass them I need not only powerful tools and weapons but knowledge in how to transcend them.'

He decided the last week he would spend at the sect, before he could return again, would be spent in the archives to obtain information on cultivation and attributes.

However, before he headed off into is research, Leon remembered he still needed to collect his merit points from the last mission.

Arriving at his sect, Leon made his way back to the contribution hall and decided that he would save the merit points instead of spending them on a colorless technique before he understood more of his own attribute.

Once he had more information and understood the path he would take, only then would he use the merit points to receive the most benefits he could to further his strength.

Entering the contribution hall, Leon noticed the same grumpy elder was operating the counter and he carefully made his way towards him through the many disciples still running back and forth between missions.

"Senior, I've completed my mission and was told my merit points would be distributed when I returned."

Seeing the same strange youth he had met a few weeks ago, the elder put down the alchemy book he was reading before reaching behind the counter.

"Ah, disciple Roan was it? Here's your merit along with a bonus that the Jiaolong family apparently sent for you, take it before I give them to someone else."

Upon hearing about the bonus, Leon accepted the merit points that were absorbed into his disciple token as he stared at the small book that was placed on the counter.

'Forbidden technique: Rising Dragon's Rage.'

Leon was surprised by the odd name of the book as he accepted it and quickly stored it away beneath his uniform and began to walk away as the voice of the elder gave a warning to his leaving footsteps.

"Careful with that one. It's an unorthodox technique, so I wouldn't reveal that to anyone within the sect."

Confused by the elder's warning, Leon could only offer a slight shrug as he departed in pursuit of the Shuangdao archives.

'A forbidden technique? Could this have something to do with my attribute that the head was mentioning?'

Without anymore information to rely on, he decided it was wise to hold off on learning the technique until his research at the archive could give any insight on the matter.

'Looks like this last week will be very interesting...'

Leon could only be sure of this one truth before he found himself in front of a old worn building in the center of the sect.

Excitement filled his body as he anxiously walked through the doors of the Shuangdao archive to hopefully understand the different information he was hinted towards.
