Chapter 15 - 15. Memories

Night had long fallen, and the moon was already hanging high up in the sky.

In this quiet and peaceful atmosphere of a night, Yoro was awake regardless of Cecilia's advice an hour ago. For him, this was the best time to read some books, to study and to learn more about this world. He had this habit since his previous life. For an unknown reason, he just felt the nighttime was just a perfect time for him, including all it's features he couldn't get in the daytime.

After going through that incident in the bathroom, he didn't have anything else to do. So he immediately went to his room and opened the shopping bag. All the books he ordered were there, placed in a tidy order so it wouldn't be damaged. Well, all excluding the memoir he personally brought with himself under his cloak.

Yoro: "Ah here it is…."

In his hand were two books, one with the classical style of a cover, while the other was one with a picture of a continent. These books were the things Yoro hadn't gotten the chance to read after the sun started to set when he was inside the library….or precisely, trapped in it.

For now, he set aside the silver book one and then climbed on the bed. In his hand was the book the continent map cover. Even if the lamp was off, there was a glowing orb in his side, shining out a considerable amount of light. There was no electricity in this world, but the magic was conveniently there, covering that part up with another form of energy.

==================

1th year of the Dark Era….

Initially, Eus was a world that only consisted of three main continents.

The first one is the beastkin continent,

This was the place where all kinds of beastkin, non-human and non-demon lives. This continent was filled with trees and untouched nature in almost every corner of the place.

The second was Monster Continent.

As the name implied, this continent was where all kinds and varieties of monster existed. All the monsters that inhabited this place were extremely deadly and dangerous.

According to the journey log of voyagers who had gone there, this place was having what humans, beastkin, and demons considered as 'city class calamity' in every 5 kilometer radius. In a quite rare and a very unlucky case, you will meet with the 3 among 10 of them that are considered as nation-class calamity monsters. This was the reason why neither beastkin, human, nor demon could conquer this place ever, with the last voyage by humans resulting in vain even after a long ten years of effort.

And here comes the last part, the main land.

The main land was inhabited by demon race in the north-eastern part and human race in the south-west part. Their border was connected, and tension was already built up between both of them while there was no one who dared to make the first move.

But misfortune befallen the human race at that time. At the very same time as human power weakened after the ten years long voyage to the monster continent, the demon lord awakened and a big ten years long was enough for it to slaughter almost a quarter of the population in the human country.

And the result? 2 nations were completely annihilated, massacred to the last living soul….

======================

Yoro had a dream

In his hand he held a sword, with black colour that was darker than night, and red blood-like vein creeping up on it. The sword was long, about 50" in length. And now, he was using it to slay whatever that is in front of him.

His vision was blurry, pretty much like a blind man who couldn't get a clear view over it's surroundings except the thing he focused onto. It felt really weird and uncomfortable, yet  somehow he had a sense of familiarity over it.

With that blurry vision of his, he swung his sword at the creature in front of him. It was two-legged, with red crimson skin and horn on its head. Even with such a little knowledge in his head, he could already guess it was a demon, maybe a sub-race of a fiend. He fought it one on one while strangely holding an upper ground. His sword danced, literally dancing with a skillful movement between that sharp claw of his.

First, the leg, it had a deep gash with blood flowing out profusely. It's movement was slowed down, and it's attack became more frantic and disorderly, and Yoro, or whoever he was, abused it to create more and more wounds on its body.

Reality struck the demon, and it realized it couldn't take him down no matter what. So it abandoned all it's reasoning and pounced on him, intending to take down Yoro with it's own life as a price.

But to Yoro's surprise, this person he dreamed off didn't move, dodged or strike it. It stayed still in his place, very similar to a scared shitless person who couldn't make a response over some big horror and found himself glued to his place. But over this scenery, Yoro realized something. He actually didn't tremble or stiff, it was calm like he had some other way out other than dodging or taking some wounds with him.

And he found out he was right.

The demon suddenly found itself couldn't move any inch closer, while it's distance towards Yoro was basically only a hair thin. It had it's chest protruded with a sword, sticking out of it like a skewer over a meat. But surprisingly, it wasn't Yoro's sword. If it was Yoro's, the demon would be able to claw his hand or face with that lanky and long limbs of his.

It was someone else, and it came from behind the demon. Upon the demon fell, Yoro realized it wasn't an one on one battle. He was at war, with many people around him. Sadly, his vision was blurry for some reason. Yoro could see other people better if one came closer to him, yet all of those was actually no one but demon and demon, one which he slayed again and again.

It was a hell of a long dream. Yoro didn't know how much time had passed, but he could feel his hand grow somewhat numb although he was inside some kind of a dream. When he realized it, the war had ended, and there was no more demons coming at him like a moth towards the fire. He could feel the relieved emotion of this person as he looked down on the ground and heaved his chest up and down.

"Hey, are you okay *******?"

Someone called him, and when this person raised his head to look at the one who approached him, blackness took over Yoro's vision in a sudden. The last word which should be this person's name only came into his ear as an intangible mess to Yoro's dismay. And after that, he woke up.

========================

Yoro: "Pant....pant...pant."

Snapping his eyes open, what lied there was his bedroom, lit dimly by a moonlight through the window outside. His breath was erratic, and he realized he was sweating all over the place. He shook his head, convincing himself that the thing he saw was only a mere dream. Yet, an indescribable pain was going through his chest, as if he just lost something important. Alas, he remembered none of it. All he could remember was his dream, which still as vivid as a day.

[Memories unlocked]

Suddenly, a blue screen appeared before him. Yoro raised his eyebrows when he noticed the content in there, prompting him to check his own status. There, some of the things had changed.

Knock knock knock*

A knocking sound came from his door right at the time his interface opened. But Yoro paid it no heed, for all the change in his status was way more important and needed immediate care than some knocking in the middle of the night.

From the glimpse alone, Yoro could tell all the change on it. First of all was his title. It somehow added a peak-elementary swordsman title on it when he literally never learnt any swordsmanship. It was also the same with his skill which included sword arts.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!*

This time, the knocking on the door grew louder and harder than before. Yet, Yoro was too elated when he came to a realization for the reason of his change in status. Looking at the 'memories unlocked' parts, it seemed that whatever he dreamt and did in there, he could do it now. It was somehow burnt in his mind, the feeling of the sword, the slashing motion, even the smell of blood still pungent in his nose.

He remember it all!

'Is… is this because of that book?' He wondered while his hand roved under his pillow, grabbing the rectangle black thing beneath. What came to display was obviously the memoir, it's seal was still in the place, looking as good as ever.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

"Wait wait, calm down!"

His attention, however, quickly snatched by the rumbling sound on the door. He gawked at the scenery that felt like it came from looney toons. His door was being banged so hard just now that the figure was bent out of shape, and yet, it was strangely still holding in its place.

"Young Master! I will fulfil my promise to spar with you! Now it's your time to fulfil your part! Hey young master, you there!?" shouted someone from behind the door, the knocking then followed, now harder than the earlier one.

Looking at the window, he could see that the outside was still dark. He could guess that the dawn hadn't even come yet, and the sun hadn't even risen. "Wait for a while!" He shouted back and got down from his bed. It didn't take more than a second to figure out who was waiting for him, combining his action and what the person said, only an idiot who couldn't guess it.

Reaching the door, he hesitated for a moment. 'wait, does this mean he wants to practice with me? At this hour!? Seriously!?' Yoro grimaced at the sudden assumption that struck him. While it was only assumption, he already could see how things turned out after this.

Yoro opened the door ever slowly. Outside, Chad was grinning like an idiot while his hands were folded in his chest. His face was energetic, confusing Yoro who wasn't really a morning person in his past life… never actually.

"What do you want at this hour? And can you stop banging my door like that? I am really afraid I have to change it soon." said Yoro while scratching his head. The memories about him breaking the glass window inside Arnold's study came to his mind.

Chad humphed as a response, his face turned smug. "well as you can see, I am strong and can control my power properly. If so, how is the door haven't broken… yet" his last word was trailing off and being said in a low tone although his face somewhat still radiated that confident vibe. Yoro heard every bit of his words obviously, and he frowned upon it.

Yoro: "yeah, to hell it won't! How many properties in this house have you had breaks anyway!?" Yoro snarled, but his eyes widened within the next second later.

Standing there, Chad actually raised one of his hands and started counting. And Yoro, who saw those, was starting to open his mouth in agape when Chad didn't stop counting after all of his fingers in one hand ran out, adding another hand and continued counting.

Yoro: "OKAY! Okay! Stop! Sheesh, you won't have a wife if you are too harsh on every single thing" he said in a tone like he is full of experience himself, which he really was. And added: "I will be ready in 10 minutes, wait for me here, okay?" before slamming the door shut in a hurry.

Chad, seeing the weird behaviour of his young master, couldn't help but feel something was wrong with his means in solving things. But just to scrap the thought as soon as it came.

Chad: "hmm...  Maybe he is just hungry" and Chad as he was, wouldn't bother himself with all the details happening and just be fine with it.
