Leo spent the next week meditating when the adults were out and thinking about how his first steps through life should be, if he's not careful someone is bound to kill me of quickly before I'm strong enough.
Winter was closing in and Jean took Zaida to market, yet again Leo found himself at mercy to Keith's clumsy nature thankfully it was not complete since he left Leo long enough to complete small chores around the house meaning Leo didn't have to play baby all day long. He was growing weary of the act and it began to show it had been one year since his birth and most of the time he tried to act like what he thought an infant should be like.
This did not keep him from getting fed up with his mother's clingy care so he tried as hard as he could to show her he didn't want to be smothered. After putting together the basics of the language he could understand most of what they said, his communication skills were non existant he still had yet to word the language correctly. It's took quite a lot of effort to work out of bubbling to what most could call confused gibberish and bubbling.
You can call it an inch but for me it's a mile, if only I could get a book to help teach myself, at least it's progress I can't understand what I need to be to find this magic nothing is working it feels like I get close then it just fades away. Keith entered the den when Leo finished his thought the house wasn't big but it was definitely bigger than his two bedroom apartment, the house was of three bedrooms a kitchen and dining room linked with a den across from parents bedroom.
"well little spud we are going fishing I'm bored and you can't argue so it's a deal then, just don't tell your mother and I'll see if I can get you a toy when my pay comes" despite what Keith had assumed Leo loved fishing and it was the first opportunity to get out of the house that didn't require breaking something or being born, if the scenery didn't change soon he would begin to see things.
Keith took his time to clothe Leo in a few furs that had been made into his winter clothes, even in fall the temperatures got cold enough that exposure was hazardous, not a problem for baby Leo however because Keith had him layered so well it could have been close to freezing and he would have been just as toasty. When they were on their way Keith took a path out and around the outskirts of village.
Leo thought the village was straight from a fairy tale looking old and medieval so figured it for a medium sized town. He could see farmers and livestock but not use of magic which was beginning to frustrate him. Lilla uses magic so magic exists yea so where is all the magic. I wish I could talk to Keith about it I will need to later so I can put this world together.
Keith walked until he reached an old dirt road leading from town but instead of heading out of town walked toward a traveler's shop tucked in side the boarder of town. the shop was an old brick and wood building and Leo started realizing that everything that looked like the medieval world he classified as old.
probably not a good idea to keep up with my modern age bias but he could definitely do something about the dust! Keith entered the shop and what was to be seen was essentially a general store but half off, the weapons and equipment he could see where lined up on the right and of poor quality and the rest of the goods were organized through the left straight in front of them was the shop keeper sitting on a stool behind the desk.
"Hey there Aster, the shop holding up well?" Keith bellowed as he neared the shop keeper.
"As well as you can expect, I'm only getting farmers trying to equip themselves for hunting game or with things to mend their homes for Winter." Aster dropped for his chair to greet Keith with an handshake "this be your newest edition aye?" Keith shook his hand with such force it was as if he was trying to shake Aster himself, Well if I get anything from this brute I pray it's this strength Leo was a mirror image of his father as far and that klutz was a walking hazard. The only features that Leo had at the moment were a deep brow with brown eyes and hair that hide a tinge of black from his mother the irony was that he was similar looking in his previous life.
"Yup! this is my boy Leo, he's got an additude like a cat and already tough as nails he had an accident last week when the poor guy fell a broke his arm," say I wonder how that happened Leo barked inwardly "say Aster I'm looking for some sourdough and cheese, do you have any I'm taking him out to the lake and all I have is the formula Lilla makes for him and I was trying to avoid going through town."
Quickly moving into the back of the shop Aster returned with a small round of cheese and the bread "your in luck Keith, Kado sold me a supply of these early today when he had excess" putting the items into his pack Keith paid Aster a handful of coin and prepared to leave when Aster stopped him.
"Keith the war is it really a possibility?" Keith turned around and looking his friend in the eyes replayed honestly "yes Aster it is, I'm not at liberty to say much but the Drake Kingdom is strengthened it's boarders but relax we are still over one hundred miles from a boarder and Alairi Kingdom has never been stronger the boarder will hold if war happens."
he mixed truth with lie if war happens then the village was in the firing line, he had to make the village and his family ready before it came. He looked down upon Leo who returned his sorrowful gaze with one of curiosity, son you may need to be a lion yet.
