Chapter 7 - Shade of the past

I feel like I'm getting stronger, this is so slow. My family my dreams everything required strength to preserve in my previous life, not that it was much of one my father the old drunk he was held up by so much pride slowly was eroded by time and I spent my life chase the white rabbit never satisfied with my situation.

I fought and resisted the crap around me but I never knew a way to change it, that will not happen again this time I have to build something of my own and I plan to stop wasting my time waiting for my chance to make progress.

Leo focused on the pathways now formed by his core and surged his mana through it, as the core drained it began to pull the void energy from the area around him and in his room Leo began to pulse with power. Leo's core was whipped into a fury by this activity and swirled with the energy flow.

After widening his energy channels Leo studied the draw on the void his core created like it was some ethereal organ between the material realm and one of the unknown, he commanded it and his body responded turning the small flame into a torch.

When he decided to demand it's effort the core slowly expanded to where it started to rotate, now it was size of two knuckles and was spinning faster and expanding more. Unknown to Leo due to his concentration the temperature in his room rose nearly five degrees.

It was this that Zaida noticed and she burst into his room to meet the spectacle when she opened the door Leo's body was wrapped in a thin layer of smooth liquid fire burning dark red. Panicked Zaida reached to grab Leo yet he was ablaze and she was unable to free him from the mystery power still scared for his life she screamed for Jean and Keith in a desperate cry.

Jean was the first to arrive and fall onto her knees recognizing the event. Leo was deeply in a trance feeling his body fall into sync with itself and hum in a soft melody beautiful to his thoughts, black fire whisked away from his head and shoulders and the flame of his core solidified into a material core of red mist.

He then opened his eyes to see his family's desperate faces like he was on his death bed, feeling exhausted by the amount of mental power used the company wasn't welcome and also worring, then Jean began to cry.

"Um hey what happened, and why did I get so popular now I was just doing some meditation" trying to lie about the mana core he had just created he smiled halfheartedly "mom, dad seriously what the hell I don't like and audience"

Keith was sweating bullets as he walked to his son and hugged him deeply, his prayers were answered but now he knew the gods were cruel. Jean and Zaida also moved to embrace Leo, his body hot to the touch but welcoming still. "Leo boy we need to talk I don't know how to explain this because it rarely happens to commoners but you are a mage" Keith stepped back and locked eyes with the confused Leo.

"A mage? like mom and Lilla?" Leo thought a mage was someone who could do magic period you didn't need to be special.

"No Leo it's more than that, everyone can cast minor spells but a mage is naturally intune with the energy flow."

Jean took a deep breath and prepared herself for the thought of what to follow knowing that Leo would never have a normal life. "Son I we don't know how explain it, an awakening is something that everyone knows about but it's rare for commoners since we have little knowledge the fact that you have had one is remarkable" Keith was a great magician but never had any skill in sensing the energy flow.

"So you know what it is but don't know anything about it?" those explanations where a riddle to his eyes but he believed his father, he had only one question to need an answer for "Dad, how do I train?".

"We will begin once you recover school isn't going to soon enough for you" Keith stood up and lead the girls from the room, "rest now, you will need it" with that Leo was alone again and the effect of the Awakening hit him, it felt like he had a massive sun burn on his whole body and he was so light at the same time. Leo however didn't explore it as he lay down the whole world switch off like a light and he was asleep before he hit the pillow.

The next day when he awoke everything in his body was on an active revolt and the slightest movements were excruciating. Leo however noticed that he learned against his bed for water he easily shifted it a foot to the side, he now had to strength of a adolescent boy despite him being only four years old.
