"We have your back." Molly grabbed her shoulders. "Ple-Please just don't leave..."
"Everything will be alright. Don't worry." Adeline smiled.
"I guess we can't change nor question your decision, Adele." Abigail stood up. "Molly and I should learn to trust Nicholas too...but I just don't know what Erick—"
"Go," Erick sighed. "Do what you want. It's your life."
Abigail and Molly's mouth dropped open. "Erick?"
"They're just childhood friends. It won't matter."
"He's your love rival! What are you doing?" Molly put her hands on her waist. "Geez! Do you even hear yourself?"
"It's impossible that Nicholas still has feelings for her. I was just overthinking."
"You're giving him the chance to flirt with her!"
"He knows his limits. He knows that Adele and I are a—"
"I haven't told him about our relationship." Adeline looked away. "I'm sorry..."
"When will you then?" Abigail folded her arms.
"I-I don't know..."
"Seriously Adele? Is it that difficult to tell your first love about it?"
"I'll tell him soon...just not now."
"Tell him so that we'll be—"
"It's fine." Erick leaned back on his chair. "Maybe she's just not comfortable talking about it. Give her some time."
"Why are you so understanding?" Molly shook her head. "You should be jealous!"
"There's no reason to. Adele and I trust each other. That's all that matters."
"Thank you." Adeline gave Erick a hug. "I promise I won't let you down."
Several days later, Adeline decided to meet up with Nicholas in front of his company to tell him about her decision to work as his secretary, but while she was waiting outside, a man in a black suit abruptly approached her.
The man bowed. "Good morning, miss. Sir Nicholas is waiting for you upstairs."
Adeline took a few steps back. "Who are you...?"
"I'm his secretary, Arthur. Pleased to meet you, Miss Adeline."
"Why didn't he just come down—"
"Shall we head inside then?"
"Okay...?" Adeline followed him to the reception.
When Adeline arrived at Nicholas' exquisite office, Nicholas signaled Arthur to leave the room before letting Adeline speak.
"So you've made up your mind?" Nicholas stood up from his chair.
"You already have a secretary." Adeline folded her arms. "What's the use of having me?"
"Can't I have more than one?"
"You're being unreasonable."
"I always am."
"Anyway, I've decided to take the job you're offering me." Adeline clutched her dress. "Just don't make me do anything stupid."
"You're staying in my office."
"What?" Adeline slammed his table.
"I said you're working in my office so that I can watch over you." Nicholas placed his hand on top of Adeline's.
"Why? You don't trust me?"
"You're not wrong though. I just wanna see if you're doing your job well."
"I always am!"
"Is that how you talk to your boss?"
"You!" Adeline clenched her fist before taking a deep breath. "I apologize for my insolence just now."
Nicholas lifted her chin. "That's more like it."
"Then kindly act like a gentleman, boss."
"What did you say?"
"You held my hand and now my face. I can sue you for sexual harassment."
"Sue?" Nicholas bursted into laughter. "Oh please, Adele. I'm not that type of person."
"Then keep your distance from me."
"Okay, okay. If that's what you want."
"So what's my first—"
"Just sit over there." Nicholas pointed to the couch beside his table. "Watch me work."
"Give me something to do." Adeline gawped.
"I already did."
"Looking at you? Really? Don't ever think that you can make me fall in love with you again."
"I never mentioned that it was my intention to."
"Do that until I tell you to stop."
"And when is that?" Adeline folded her arms. "Don't joke around with me."
"I'll tell you when I'm in the mood." Nicholas smiled. "For now, why don't you just follow me before I lose my temper?"
