"Why would you come up with that conclusion?" Nicholas stood up. "Haven't I told you that she was only a childhood friend?"
"Childhood friend? Are you sure about that?" Ella could feel her heart pound and her blood pressure rise as she did all in her power to push down the rage. "Wh-Why do you treat her so special? You don't even shout at her!"
"My love for her is only as a—"
"You expect me to adjust to that? You're literally flirting with each other!"
"Don't make assumptions unless you know the whole story. You better change that detestable attitude of yours."
"Do I need to do that? I've caught you guys many times!" Ella tried to hold back the tears that had been building up since the moment she had been angered. "For the past two years that I was in abroad, I never once doubted you, so why can't you just stop?"
Nicholas took a few steps closer. "Don't expect me to be the one to apologize. I've already explained to you everything. It's up to you to believe it or not."
"Aren't you gonna even ask if I'm alright?"
"You're the one that starts the fight without understanding the situation."
"Are you putting the blame on me? I saw you hug her! What will people think of us now that our relationship is already public?"
"So all you care about is that? Go and tell everyone that we broke up then."
Ella clenched her fist. "What d-did you s-say?"
"I need a break." Nicholas took a deep breath. "I'm tired of loving you."
"You're ending our relationship because of Adeline?"
"It has nothing to do with her. Don't drag her into this fight."
Ella cried, holding Nicholas' arm. "I'm sorry. It's my fault alright...? Let's just go and—"
Nicholas shook his head. "Let me go, Ella. I've had enough."
"You're doing this because you just need some time right?"
"No, it's just that—"
"I'll wait."
Nicholas grabbed her shoulders. "We're never going back to the way we used to! I don't love you anymore! Don't act like you don't understand what I'm saying."
"You... W-Why...?" Ella wrapped her arms around him. "You're not allowed to leave me!"
"Don't get on my nerves. Let go."
"Them tell me wh-what I have done to—"
"Nothing." Nicholas looked at the sky. "I don't have feelings for you anymore."
Ella loosened her grip and took a few steps back, recollecting the time when she saw Nicholas embracing Adeline. Anyone would've gotten hurt if they saw their boyfriend defending another woman.
"Why do you have to do this to me?" Ella sat down on the floor as more tears started flowing down her cheeks. "I'm such a fool to believe that Adeline was only your childhood friend."
"Let's end everything here." Nicholas handed her his handkerchief.
"You're really le-leaving me? Can't you just give me another chance?"
"I've told you before didn't I? It's been more than a year and you're still the same."
Ella clutched his shirt, resting her head on his chest. "Please... Don't leave me..."
"You have to learn to forgive and forget about me, Ella."
"I-I don't want anyone else! I'll give up everything to be with you."
"If you truly love me, let me go. I don't wanna waste another day waiting for things you'll never say."
"I will not—"
"No matter how much we try to make it work, we can never be happy with each other." Nicholas looked away. "Our hearts are meant to be broken so that the right person can come and fix it."
"I'm sorry." Ella covered her face. "I'm sorry that my best wasn't good enough for you."
"You'll find someone better." Nicholas smiled, using his thumb to wipe her tears. "Someone that can make you forget everything about me."
