"I like you. Could you please be my girlfriend?" a young boy wearing glasses kneeled down as he looked at the girl wearing a petite dress who was standing in front of him.
The girl held his arm and helped him to stand up. "Julian, you know I don't see you that way."
"I can protect you, Adeline. I'm wealthy—"
"You think money is the key to love? Is that what you see me as? I tried loving you, Julian. I tried spending time and going out with you, but I still feel nothing. The way I feel about him won't change."
"Then why can't you just lie to me?" Julian cried. "Tell me you love me, even though you don't mean it. You can play with my feelings as you want. You can do anything to me. I don't care if you like another guy. I'm willing to be a substitute."
Adeline turned her back as the bright sun shined over her. "I don't wanna lie to you, I'm sorry. He'll be the only man I'll ever love in my entire life, so please give up on me. I don't want to hurt anyone else."
As soon as Julian heard that, his heart broke. He was willing to give her everything, but why wouldn't she feel the same way? Why would she chose to love a guy who didn't love her back? There were tons of boys who've already confessed to her, but all were rejected. Julian has loved her for years, so why wouldn't she just give him a chance?
"Fine, I'll give up, but stop giving other guys like me hope when you know there isn't. You agreed to hang out with me and do almost everything with me. Do you expect me not to develop feelings for you? You're ruining people's life, Adeline. I hope someday you'll never find the man that'll truly love you for who you are," Julian responded as he wiped his tears and walked away.
"I don't need him to like me. Getting to see him smile everyday is more than enough," Adeline mumbled as she gasped at the rush of the frigid air.
Adeline, a student of business management, was one of the most beautiful girl in the campus. The boys would always be captivated by her beauty since she would always wear stylish clothes. Not only did she have all the perfect curves in the right places that everyone envied, but also one of the smartest lass around.
"Adeline, did I solve this correctly?" a girl in a light blue dress came with a book that contained different problems.
Adeline took a glimpse. "Molly, you forgot to calculate the interest."
"Oh, you're right! Thank you Adele!"
"If there's nothing else—"
Before Adeline was able to finish her sentence, Molly, her best friend suddenly laughed. "Someone confessed to you again? You seem down."
Adeline nodded. "This one seemed to be a nerd."
"Around a hundred boys that have confessed to you, don't you like anyone of them?"
"You know that I only love one man and you clearly know who that is."
Molly put her hand on Adeline's shoulder. "Even though you're close with him, it doesn't mean you stand a chance. Nicholas seems to have his eyes in another woman."
The man that Adeline loved wasn't an ordinary man. He was perfect in every aspect. He had dark brown eyes, a straight nose, angular shaped eyebrows and a chiseled jawline. He had broad shoulders and a bass voice which made him a lot more attractive. He always looked debonair and handsome in the clothes he always wore which made him one of the most admired men in the campus.
Nicholas is gentle to all the girls and helps them as much as he can, but it wasn't the same for Adeline. Even though he was courteous, Adeline was the woman he always had been treating special. To him, Adeline was no regular girl since they've known each other for so long. When they were young, they'd always meet everyday just to play while their parents were gone. They were just like siblings who cared for each other.
"Let's just head back to the dorm, I'm starving." Adeline gave a serene smile as she reminisced about her high school days.
