Chapter 4 - Our Feelings

After finishing the talk with William, Nicholas and Adeline decided to stop by a convenient store to buy some medicine for Adeline's wrist.

"Here. Take this." Nicholas handed her a pain reliever.

Adeline smiled. "Thanks for helping me."

"Why didn't you tell me that he kept bothering you? If I didn't come at the right time, what do you think would've have happened?"

"I'm sorry. I just didn't want you to worry."

Nicholas grabbed her shoulders and smiled. "I'll protect you always."

Adeline looked away. "About what you said a while ago... What if William spreads that we're together even if we're not?"

"I'm team captain remember? I can always threaten him."

"Do-Do you really not like me?"

Nicholas removed his black leather jacket and put it on her. "What are you talking about? Of course I love my best friend. We should get going now. It's getting dark. Have a good rest okay?"

As soon as Adeline heard that, tears started falling from her eyes, but before Nicholas could even see it, she wiped her tears and started walking towards their house.

"Hey, wait for me!" Nicholas shouted as he grabbed the stuff they brought, trying to catch up to her.

Adeline walked faster. "Let's just—"

Before she was able to continue, Nicholas suddenly grabbed her arm and asked her what was wrong.

"Can't you see that I—"

"You what? You've been acting strange lately."

"Forget it."

"Then why are you crying?" Nicholas asked as he gave her a hug.

Adeline put her head on his shoulder as more tears started falling from her eyes. "Nothing, I'm just tired."

(Present time)

"Where have you guys been? The food's getting cold," Abigail, one of Adeline's roommate came and opened the door.

Molly removed her furry pink jacket. "We just went for a walk outside the campus."

Adeline sank onto her chair. "Julian, he confessed to me a while ago..."

Abigail touched her shoulder. "Adele, don't you think it's time you let go? You're no longer in high school. If you don't learn to control your thoughts, you'll never learn how to control your behavior."

"She's right. Nicholas isn't the only man in the world. Sometimes you just have to accept the truth and stop wasting time on the wrong people," Molly added as she opened the kitchen cabinet and grabbed her favorite pack of chips.

"What can I do? Of all the people my heart could've have chosen, it decided on someone who didn't have enough room in his own heart to love someone like me." Adeline looked at the bright blue sky as she recollected the reason why she chose not to confess to him.

Meanwhile...

(In the boy's dorm)

"Nic, wanna play basketball tonight?" Jacob, one of Nicholas' friend came knocking on the door.

Nicholas laid on his bed as he closed his eyes. "I'm not in the mood."

Jacob opened the door and pulled his arm. "Why not? Just one game please?"

"Let me rest. I need to run some errands tomorrow."

"Is it because of Adeline again? You've been thinking about her all day. Do you like her?"

Nicholas flicked his forehead. "You're thinking too much. She's just my best friend."

"Adeline's such a beauty, you've never actually felt anything towards her?" Jacob smirked as he brought his face closer, hoping that Nicholas would admit it.

"Why do you ask? Do you plan on courting her?"

"I wouldn't even dare. You'd kill me if I do. You're so protective of her."

"I spent almost half of my life with her. Do you expect me to allow her to date someone like you?"

Jacob got a glass of water and took a sip. "Oh well, I'm used to your bluntness."

"Just date her roommate. She seems hot," a man wearing a green bomber jacket came and interrupted.

Nicholas yawned. "Peter? I thought you were still practicing for your swimming competition?"

"I'm not too busy to indulge in playing computer games too you know." Peter, one of Nicolas' roommate responded as he handed him a small notebook.

"What's this for?"

"I've done my homework. Do me a favor and check it."

Nicholas took a glimpse. "Got it. Don't forget to buy me some porridge tomorrow."

As soon as Nicholas agreed, Peter went to his desk and opened his laptop, but before he was even able to put his headphones on, Jacob grabbed a stool and sat beside him.

"What do you want?" Peter asked, turning his head to look at him.

Jacob started cracking his knuckles. "Well, I actually wanna ask—"

"Get to the point. It's infuriating."

"About that girl you mentioned that was Adeline's roommate..."

"Molly." Peter smirked. "Your welcome."

"Love you, Peter!" Jacob shouted as he started jumping with excitement.
