Chapter 1 - And So It Begins: 001

The grasshopper mouse is a rodent found in parts of North America. It is known to be capable of killing highly venomous anthropods, such as the scorpion. What seemingly is an impossible task for most rodents, this little mouse seems to defy all odds, that is until the real predators come out...

In the scarcely lit night of the crecent moon, we see hardly any movements, if any at all. As the moon slowly makes it's way past it's crest, in the blink of an eye dust is shot into the sky, and blood is spilled.

Erret the mouse, is scurrying along the dusty rocks in central moab. He just accomplished the extraordinary task of taking down the Bark Scorpion in what seemed like the most epic fight in his little world. He may have stepped away with a few scratches, but at least he finished the fight and filled his stomach for the night. As he runs through the brush and thick sand, in the distance we can see his burrow. The burrow that he currently calls home is a little too small for him, as had stolen it the night before from another creature of the night. He is moving fast and trying to get home before he gets noticed by Vrases, the night owl. Unfortunately for him though, he was noticed well before his belly was filled. Vrases witness the whole fight and was just biding his time and waiting for his prey to fall into a false sense of security. As he watched he didn't notice how tight a grasp he had on his branch. As his hunger grew and his patience waned, his crecent shaped claws, in seemingly direct relation to the moon, dug into the branch more and more, slowly splitting the wood until *snap*. Vrases without hesitation streaked through the sky and before the branch hit the ground, his prey was snatched up, and swooped to the nearest cliff. As Vrases lands he seems confident in his skills, and was ready for his feast, a perfect prey with a full stomach should keep him happy, at least for a little while. He glares down at Erret, and seconds later all you can hear is the blood curddled shriek and nothing more. Prey was dead, but not our mouse.
