[???: Edith, go clean up your room.]
[Edith: Sure, sure. Just lemme finish what I'm reading, dad.]
I was living with my dad in a mansion in Woodwyn. My dad was a scientist, and he had just got back home from work. My mom had cancer, and died before I could remember her. Though I'm happy. All I needed was my dad. He was everything to me.
[Dad: Alright, but hurry up. We're going to the school trip, remember?]
[Edith: Yeah, yeah sure, dad]
I lived normally, with my dad always looking over my shoulder. I was happy. Everything I needed, everything I wanted, I already had. I was happy. My dad was my everything. I was happy. Until that night, I heard a thump on the ground—
[Edith: Dad…? Dad? DAD?!?]
—My dad collapsed. I was scared. No. I was terrified. I called someone immediately, and they took him to a nearby hospital. I burst into tears, praying everything was going to be alright.
A few days later, the doctor came in—
[Doctor: Your father has stage four cancer. There's nothing we can do.]
No. This can't be happening. First mom, now dad too? A nightmare. Yeah. I must be dreaming. This is all just one long nightmare, right?
I slapped myself to see if it was just a dream. It wasn't. This is all real. Crap. I don't know what to do. Crap. Tears again?
[Dad: Edith, I'm sorry. I was working so hard just to ensure you would live a happy life—]
He squeezed my hand so tight, that it started to hurt, but I didn't mind. I was full of emotion back then. I didn't want to lose the one thing I needed so bad.
[Dad: —Edith, promise me one thing, okay? Live on—]
He let go. He flatlined. I called for help. It was too late. I lost him. I lost everything. It felt like hell.
Days later, I was stuck at home. I couldn't attend the funeral. That's when I made the decision, that I was going to be a doctor, or a medic, or anyone that could save people. That I was going to be someone who wouldn't allow people to lose someone they needed so much. I was going to save lives, so that I could see people together again. I was going to do this, because I didn't want people to go through the same crap as I did. This is my duty. This is—
[Edwin: —Edith? Hey, Edith?]
Edith finally came back to her senses. It was the first time I've seen her zone out like that. It was weird.
[Edith: Sorry, I was remembering something. Wait, I need some fresh air—]
Before she could stand up from her chair, I grabbed her hand. She looked shocked of what I did. Crap. This is so awkward.
[Edwin: —Listen to me first. If you need someone to lean on, I'll be here, okay?]
That was so disgusting of me, but she smiled, nodded, then she left. I hope she didn't think it was gross, but I had to let her know. She saved me after all, but I guess that wasn't the main reason why…
