Chapter 3 - Chapter 4: Ambush

[Edith: Okay, try walking. How does it feel?]

[Edwin: Yeah, it feels natural. I can finally go back out there. Thank you so much.]

It's been two months now, and I have fully recovered. All this is thanks to her. I really owe her a lot at this point. I want to do something for her, but for now, I have to go back.

[Edith: I told you. I'm just doing my job. So, when are you going back out there?]

[Edwin: Tomorrow. I'll let a captain know, and then I'll join his squad. I'll be careful, so don't worry. I know you were going to tell me that.]

[Edith: Yeah…]

I looked at her, and she had completely hidden her face from me. I didn't know why though. Her ears though. They we really red for some reason.

[Edith: There's something I want to tell you too, and it's a little embarrassing…]

[Edwin: Yeah sure, what is it?]

[Edith: …]

It was really silent. Crap. Maybe she hates me now, after I held her hand that one time.

[Edith: I…]

[Varean soldier: MISSILE!!]

The whole place shook. It looks like the front was hit. Looks like they're attacking the injured soldiers, before the soldiers can even recover. Why? Why would they attack people who can't defend themselves? That's just… cruel.

[Edwin: We have to get out of here now. There's a vehicle in the back. We can take it to retreat back to Merryborough. C'mon, let's hurry.]

I took her hand and ran as quickly as possible to the back of the building. I carried her to the vehicle, and I drove to the closest base as soon as possible. I caught a glimpse of her, and her face was really red. I touched her forehead to see if she had a fever. She wasn't warm though.

[Edith: I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Just focus on driving.]

Merryborough is in sight. It's so close. Just a little more—

[Edith: GRENADE!]

—The vehicle flipped and we were separated. The air around me was full of smoke. Crap. I have to find her. I still have to repay her. She still has something to say to me. I have to save her.

I find her surrounded by two soldiers. They got their pants down. In a fit of rage, I immediately grabbed the gun that I took from the vehicle and shot the two of them dead. I'm now looking at her. She's unconscious, but she's alive. She has a wound at her head. Crap. I have to take her to there as soon as possible.

I carried her on my back, and ran as quick as possible. When we arrived there, I screamed as loud as I could for help. Luckily, soldiers were there, and carried her to a medic. The medic told me that it was only a cut, and it wasn't deep. I felt so relieved when I heard that.

She woke up the next day. She asked about what happen, and I told her everything. I was just so happy that we survived. I finally got to repay my debt to her.
