Two weeks had passed in the blink of an eye. A majority of the time Akiol spent was training his new body, recovering from the training, and repeating this process. Two weeks wasn't enough to make significant change but it started the foundation.
James had won a lawsuit before his death, the settlement was a significant sum. It took a while for Akiol to understand the process of currency in this world, but as he adjusted he realized just how much James had received. There was enough money to continue this lifestyle well into his older age. Was this perhaps that "fate twisting chance" the gods had mentioned?
With some difficulty he set up the VR headset. Placing it upon his head he laid on the bed and started it. Various clicks and whirs he could hear but he had no idea what they meant. Closing his eyes he waited for only a few moments before he felt a shift. This displacement reminded him of his reincarnation, jarring and sudden but lacking discomfort. Opening his eyes he found himself in an open space devoid of color. Taking a step forward made the ground react and several thin white lines spread out like traces on a circuit board. A number appeared in the distance with the countdown. Less than a minute remaining.
Taking the minute to adjust Akiol performed several movements. It was incredibly realistic to his surprise. If anything it simply lacked the feeling of energy being spent. Freeing him from any sense of limit. This might be a problem, but he kept an open mind about the process.
The countdown rapidly finished and his vision was swarmed by the thin white lines. His vision warped to a light blue area, the same white lines traveled across the floor and air. Suddenly a hearty voice entered his ears, "Welcome to A World's Legacy player! I am the A.I. Bartholomew Vendict. Please call me Bart. I will be your guide during your character customization and registration."
The sound of a snap was made and the white lines swirled, within them a happy looking plump man appeared with a smile. Gesturing with his hand a copy of James appeared in front of Akiol. Bart explained what was happening with a practiced flair, "In front of you lies a one to one copy of your current self. You're free to change anything about your appearance, limited only by your imagination."
Akiol frowned and pictured himself, specifically the version of him from his previous world. The copy of James morphed and now looked directly like Akiol did. Studying this copy he nodded. Bart took this as confirmation but still asked to confirm, "You are pleased with this look?"
"I am."
"Wonderful! Before we continue please keep in mind you can change races from this list. We will automatically adjust your current appearance to fit the races, but you can still choose the final adjustments. To summon the interface, picture the word interface in your mind."
Doing as he was told caused a series of squares to drop in front of Akiol with various races. Skimming through them he noticed upon pressing one he was given the list of benefits and cons of being a said race. This was a strange thing to Akiol, so he skipped picking a unique race and went to select human. A standard race with no benefits or downsides. Just as he pressed the confirm button the words glitched out and the race changed. However Akiol couldn't quite catch what it was. Bart's gaze seemed to gloss over and his voice turned more lifeless, "Thank you user. Please enter your username. This name will be used by other players to replace your name. Due to restrictions the username cannot contain symbol and numbers, only standard letters. Additionally the same name cannot be used by two players, if you have this issue please adjust your name accordingly."
"Akiol."
The words manifested and confirmed if the spelling was correct. Once confirming this step Bart seemed to come back to life, "Thank you for your registration! In just a moment you'll be transported into A World's Legacy! We ask you be cordial, for various actions may have consequences. If any repeating offense occurs we reserve the right to ban your account permanently. No refunds will be given. You will now be sent to a beginner village to start your journey."
Snapping his fingers Bart smiled warmly, "May your journey be blessed with fortune and luck!"
Akiol found himself being swarmed by the white lines, and his vision robbed once more. It was time to start his journey! His goal was to find his party members!
