Chapter 4 - Never Mess With A Quartet: Part 1

"So shall we go?" Jacob once more had a sweet smile on his face, knowingly angering the trio in the process.

"Hmph." For now, they had no choice but to follow Jacob, after all, he's done this more than a few times.

Well, except for Clay the other two pretty much had no idea what to do in these sort of situation where they had been forcefully transformed into mortals.

And even Apollo had been human only twice. It was better to let the experts lead the way, "So where are we going?" Amara questioned the two experts, she knew that they had to grow stronger and earn money, but she had no idea how to.

Clay caught her staring and looked back at her with a small smile, "Hm, a library I guess."

"Tch." Jacob was slightly annoyed by the distance and was preparing to use an Artifact, he reached for the pocket of his coat, then he was pushed back abruptly.

Thanks to Luke's fast as light reflexes, he was able to stop himself from falling. Just inches before he touched the ground, "Thanks, I owe you one." Heaving a sigh of relief he turned to Luke and thanked him sincerely.

He then faced the man before him, he was draped in a robe of deep blue, rimmed with gold thread, his plump body snugly hugging it to its full extent.

The man's portly face scrunched up in anger, his almond shaped eyes boring into Jacob, but the latter saw nothing but an unpleasant ant.

"Get out of my way b*stard!" His voice squeaked with fury, straining his vocal cords. The four could not contain their laugh, they imagined a hoarse and rough sounding voice, but they did not expect for him to have such a hilarious shrilly voice.

The man clenched his fists, veins popping out of his forehead. Bystanders murmured, which the tetrad were amused by.

"Isn't that Cao Boqin?" An old lady whispered. "I heard that he had already reached the Great Overlord Realm last week."

"Really? Wow!"

"Bah! He's got spunk but he's not as good as that kid Gui Chongkun."

"Oh! I heard that the academy was going to award him for being the youngest Emperor Realm Cultivator in the city at 19!"

....

And the chatter resumed once more, leaving only the five of them to settle their own problems.

The four had no idea who Gui Chongkun was, but they were very impressed. It was expected of a genius.

Mortals these days were truly overbearing. "You are Cao Boqin, yes? I apologize for any trouble I have caused for you." Jacob bowed and simply slid past him with no hesitation.

"Stop." It was a simple word but it made the group of four freeze where they were. "May we help you?" Amara tilted her head slightly just enough to see him.

"Yes, I want that kid beheaded!" Not a second later he sped past them and arrived before Jacob.

They were equally shocked, but stayed calm. After all, they'd seen faster things, compared to the monstrous speeds Gods could go, he was merely a snail to them.

But they knew how dangerous it was for them to be to be hit by the full force of this punch. "Hah. Why are you so impatient, not to mention foolish." Jacob complained aloud, but despite his disappointment he felt the blood rushing through him.

Excitement could be seen on his face. He grinned madly, showing off the sharp and milky white incisors he bore.

Raising his hand he then laid it out flat. A white Aura shrouded the palm, visible to everyone who dared to look.

The spectators felt strange seeing it, an oppressive force weighing down on their souls.

Except for Cao Boqin and the other three, who were actually bored at this sight, everyone else felt fear overwhelming their minds.

Just when the punch nearly connected, Jacob stepped to the side and smiled deviously before delivering a downwards knife-hand strike to the back of his neck.

Cao Boqin fell flat on his face, keeling over for all to see, mouth open with blood streaming down it.

The assailant swiftly jumped over the body indifferently and dusted himself off cooly. The marketers and merchants as well as travelers passing by were in shock.

A minute later the whole square was in chaos, thinking that he had been killed. The alleged killer however was now strolling alongside his teammates, talking about how he had done so and was even boasting about the fact that he had restrained himself and merely blocked an important meridian.

"Oh, I see. So he's basically a cripple now." Luke nodded understandingly, he had thought that he was actually dead, but now he had learnt that Cao Boqin was going to suffer a fate worse than death.

Clay on the other hand recognized the real problem of this matter, "But doesn't that mean that his family will come after you? After all he is apparently part of the Cao Clan."

"Ha! That's what we're hoping to happen. Won't it be great if we leveled that family to the ground?" Jacob smirked happily, he had never been so happy in his entire life before this.

"Ah! I see, you're planning on using that clan as a stepping stone and gain fame." Amara, who had an incredible awareness towards anything concerning complicated stories understood the current situation.

It was a cliche story under any Wuxia, Xianxia or even Xuanhuan genre.

Most stories start off pretty much like this; a guy gains an incredible cheat or is either a transmigrator and gets strong easily thanks to the cheat.

He then meets an arrogant aristocrat and is challenged to a duel. The man defeats his opponent and severely injures him. The arrogant guy then calls on his eldest brother in either the clan or sect for vengeance but he is then later completely obliterated.

The eldest brother does something underhanded and the main character is furious.

An intense fight happens and the destruction of the clan is near, they are then face slapped by the main character and then shunned by society, forever disappearing from the story from then on.

"How about we have turns face slapping them? First we disguise ourselves as someone else and conquer every occupation and near the end of our fight with the family we reveal our true selves and humiliate them in front of everyone."

Clay was an avid reader of revenge and despair bringing novels since it contained many sorrowful deaths.

"Lets familiarize ourselves with the occupations and obtain amazing results on them. But first we should conceal our identities." Amara was also an avid reader of books, specifically romance and tragic love stories.

But once in a while she discreetly reads books outside her comfort zone and finds satisfaction in face slapping ones.

"Okay, then we'll go with different names when doing occupations." Jacob's stormy eyes betrayed no emotions yet if one were to observe closely they would see intense hunger within them.

"Malady: Horseman of Pestilence. You bring plagues of great intensity and destroys humans from the inside out." Jacob pointed towards Luke, speaking in an over dramatic tone.

"Paucity: Horsewoman of Famine. You take away everything from others so they may experience poverty just as you did." Amara was offended but could not refute since she did do something similar during her time as a Goddess.

"Reaper: Horseman of Death. Sowing away souls at the end of ones life. Ferrying them straight to the Underworld." Clay rolled his eyes and turned away so that the others could not see his blushed face.

"And what about you?" Amara was curious to know what he had named himself, she had to admit the names were cool and straight to the point.

"I think I'll call myself Enigmas: Horseman of War. A harbinger of enmity that causes others to go into a state of frenzy for unknown reasons." Jacob, or rather, Enigmas grinned.

It fit rather well with his theme and former aspect. "Now let's go and make some trouble."

The four pushed open the wooden doors and delved into the library. Books were seen in every corner.

People shuffling past silently, some eyeing the new arrivals, with many men goggling at Paucity with an intense concupiscent glare.

She noticed this and winked at them titillatingly, toying with their emotions.

A few of the girls were also interested in the boys, with some giggling and arguing on which guy was hotter.

Enigmas of course was not included since he was far too young. But the other two were exactly their type.

"Oh, yeah. This'll be fun." Enigmas spoke softly, revelling in the fact that they were already the centre of attention.
