Chapter 12 - The hero of witches

Taking what he believes is his last breath Drew was about to lunge at the demon he's face-to-face with. But just as he took a step forward to begin his attack the she-devil crossed her large arms and slashed her gauntlets to create a spark that set her gauntlets and her horns a blue blaze. They were nothing like Drew's fire as they didn't feel cold at all, and in fact, he knows just by looking at these flames that they can do nothing but burn anything that touches them.

The blue flames fumed out of the joints of her gauntlets and in-between the segments of her horns.

The she-devil came at Drew and he replied in-kind by facing her instead of falling back. His decision to continue confronting the demon head-on is so that he gets her undivided attention and hopefully stall for enough time for reinforcement to come but besides that Drew was also thinking of a plan as he evades the demon's claws and bladed tail. His choice of action does have its consequences as he underestimated the feral she-devil. What he thought was a wild monster swinging its burning claws and tail around was actually a beast with its instincts honed by both experience and innate intellect. He suffers multiple near-death moments that he gets away with only flesh wounds.

One particular attack leaves another grievous wound on him. That attack was the she-devil shooting her blade-tipped tail at him as though it was a scorpion stinger. He thought he could parry it with his sword but instead, the she-devil's tail goes through it and rips a gash across Drew's arm forcing him to pull back before the blade reached his neck.

In that exchange Drew understood that even though this demon is feral she has displayed time and time again that she's no mindless beast.

"She wasn't just trying to disable my way to attack and defend myself. If I just stood there her blade would've definitely cut my nape open." Drew was at a complete disadvantage now. Even though he's still holding onto his sword that he barely has the strength to swing.

The demon failed to sever a jugular in his neck but succeeded in crippling Drew's way to fight back. All that's left now is for her to cut his legs or deal the killing blow.

But even though Andrew was now dealing with two mortal wounds he's still managing to avoid the attacks of the demon who was now focusing the whips of her tail at his legs. However, as he does manage to scrape away from certain death from her claws and tail the fact that they were covered in her blue flames scorched him. His hand was particularly seared to the point that he feels like his sword was now glued to his grip.

"I'm just really bad with fire, aren't I?" He told himself while his vision begins to stir. "Crap."

As Drew struggles to parry the demon's flurry of attacks notices something odd. At this point, he knows his body is failing him and that the demon should've overwhelmed him at this point but she hasn't. That's when he realized that she's getting sluggish.

Her panting breath smoldered and each step she made looked like she had weights tied to her ankles. The way she started swinging her claws appeared as though it took everything it had from her and she was now just dragging her tail as she continued to run after Drew.

This gave him the chance to pull back from the demon and snap his dislocated shoulder back into place. Drew stomached the pain and in a masochistic sense, he enjoyed the snap his shoulder made when it got put back into place. He still had the problem of the gashes on his arm and body but he now believes he could live through this experience.

The she-devil lets out another roar and the tail she was dragging spasmed back to life and once again shoots itself towards Drew. This time he was prepared and ducked down to which the demon smiled showing her serrated teeth but Drew smiled as well and slammed his wounded arm against the flat of the blade. That both cauterized the gash on his arm and effectively parried the demon's tail.

Drew finally saw an opening to attack and without much strength left in him he squeezed whatever he had left and leaps towards the she-devil his sword pulled back and ready to strike. The blank black executioner's blade suddenly shows its etched runes on it glowing an ethereal blue color.

Eutychianes freeze fire

'Eutychianes Einfrieren Feu'

As parts of Andrew's body are set ablaze by his blue flames along with his sword the fire that the she-devil has in the joints of her tail, gauntlets, and horns instantly turned into ice. Drew's flames freeze everything especially fire. The stronger a fire is the faster it will freeze once he uses the rune spell etched into his executioner's sword.

The she-devil had no way to move and strangely she found respite in being bound by ice at that moment because she did not feel tired anymore and she did not feel the terrible hunger and madness that consumed her upon waking up.

She was no longer feral and in wanting to thank the man that's about to kill her, she at least wishes to see who he is with her eyes untwisted by the vices that swallowed her up.

Upon doing so she saw a dark blue flame that reminds her of something. Now she knows why she found so much comfort in the hoarfrost that covered her. Its gentle chill that lulled her to sleep, something she can only find in the north. But something was different with this flame.

"It's far too dark. It's not at all equal to what I saw back then," she comments in her mind as she moved her large gauntlet to catch the blade and look upon its bearer.

Her gauntlet was frozen upon catching the sword, shards of ice growing out from the joints of the gauntlet before shattering altogether to reveal a normal hand that grabbed Drew's face.

She squeezes his cheeks and turned his face around in different angles to examine his appearance. She recognizes his face but she thinks that it's nothing but a close imitation as to her all humans are the same, however, the flames Drew has are something that cannot be imitated easily, so in her haze, she accepts that he's someone she knows.

Drew didn't know what to do or rather he had nothing left in him that he could do as his body was equally spent and pushed to its very limit.

Transfer le sien blessure in maine

"Transfer"

Just like with Cecil it only took a single word for the she-demon to cast a spell but what that spell was is up to Drew's guess. What it does do though is make him feel all the pain in his body disappear. Drew, at first, thought that he was losing consciousness -that death was knocking at his door but actually, it was his wounds being healed. He looked at his cauterized arm and sees that there was no longer both the gash and the cauterization on it. As if the entire fight between the she-devil never happened.

"W, -What're you-"

"Shut up. Don't talk. My head hurts. Just … bury me somewhere."

"Again, what're you-" Drew is suddenly splattered with red blood, the she-devil's blood as multiple wounds opened on her body dyeing her tattered blue dress a dark red.

As the she-devil was about to collapse to the ground, Drew rightfully catches her. He was completely stunned at what happened, leaving him standing in the middle of a destroyed market plaza while holding the demon that nearly killed him and had probably killed a lot of people before confronting Drew. He could've killed her, it would've been right if he did, and he would've been redeemed by Mires for saving Aspen.

An easy way out fell literally right onto Andrew and all he had to do was finish it and show to the Aspen guards the demon that terrorized the city.

Harboring this demon would only make things harder for him and Melissa, but harbor her he did. There was no way in his heart that Drew would ignore what the she-devil had done and he doesn't want to make the same mistake he did that disappointed Erize.

"If I'm going to redeem myself and Melissa, I'm going to find a way that doesn't involve me killing anyone," Drew vowed to himself as he carries the she-demon on his back through the forest.

"You'd probably do the same, right? Erize." He smiled.
