Morgianna did not have a clear view of the men in front of her but judging by what little bit she had seen she had to guess what they were pirates. As they did not give off any indication of their presence one could only guess that there was some type of device that cloaked them.
That also meant that they were blind when it came to knowing just how many others were on the boat.
"Oi, get out of the way so we can see the pretty girls. It's been months since I saw a woman but even a young one will do." The men were looking their way se imagined a starving man looked at food and it made Morgianna sick.
Fafnir was glaring with open hostility, daring the men to make a move so he could rip their heads from their stinking bodies. "And if I refuse?" Fafnir felt his fingers turn into claws, not even having to force them to shift. If he were to look in the mirror he would see slitted eyes staring back at him and hints of scale running along his chin.
The men did not show an ounce of fear at his change, instead, they grew even more excited.
"Did you see that boss? A partial shift, he must be strong."
"Should we try to take him alive?"
"I wonder what the women are.."
As the men conversed amongst themselves Morgianna and her group had begun slowly backing away. If they used magic recklessly they would just alert the men of their plan.
Just as they were about to reach the edge an arrow pierced the deck next to their feet. "Tsk, trying to leave before we even had time to get acquainted, what naughty guests we have here." Above them on one of the ship's masts was a man who was dressed much nicer than the ones they had previously had the displeasure of meeting. His face was well-groomed and his hair was combed neatly. To compare him to the men prior the only thing they would have in common was location.
In a swift motion he lept from his perch and landed gracefully in front of them. His sudden appearance spelled trouble. "Hmmm not bad if I do say so myself. A dragon, I have not seen one of those in quite a long time. The last one passed to quickly for me to find out where their hiding place was, but you won't disappoint me the same will you?" The man smiled but it held no warmth. If Morgianna could compare it to anything it would be a shark who knew you were its dinner.
The man turned his attention to Morgianna and Myra and tilted his head, breathing deeply through his nose and closing his eyes as if smelling the best fragrance. "Oh ho ho what a lucky catch indeed. A dragon and a basilisk in the same place. Tell me, pretty lady, does the carpet match the drapes?" Myra hissed in his direction, which only earned her another creepy smile.
His eyes then shifted to Morgianna and turned to present moons. "You my dear are the real prize though, aren't you? I'd say you hold more power in your little pinky than the other two combined. Why don't you come a little closer? I won't bite, I may even let your friends live since they are such magnificent creatures."
Fafnir released a low menacing growl and shuffled to block the man's view of Morgianna. At that the smile on the man's face vanished. His eyes were like two onyx pools, there were no white visible. "I was speaking to the lady, move."
The tense air only grew heavier and Fafnir did not budge an inch. His clawed hands flexed as if imagining themselves clenched around the man's throat.
"If you know that I have power then let us leave, if not then I will send this ship to the deep." Behind Fafnir Morgianna stepped to the side leveling her gaze on the man. Her face was one of calm indifference, a mask that hid the rage she felt bubbling inside from the moment he had opened his mouth. She had never been so quick to anger, but ever since she released that huge amount of power during her small fight with Necro she found that her emotions were volatile.
In an instant the air around them grew even colder. "That is truly unfortunate. You see if you will not come with me I cannot let you live." In what seemed like milliseconds an arrow had been notched and sent hurtling her way. Myra was the closest to her and with the swiftness that only she possessed pushed them both off of the ship's side.
As if by habit Morgianna formed an air current to gently bring them to the ground. As her feet touched sand Myra collapsed to her knees. In her back was the arrow that was meant to take Morgiannas life. It's entrance dangerously close to Myra's heart. Even an inch to the left would have spelled certain death.
In the distance Morgianna could hear fighting and knew that the pirates had attacked Fafnir, but she could not leave Myra the say she was. "This is gonna hurt for just a second, bite down on this." Without any hesitation Morgianna ripped a large portion of her skirt and rolled it up placing it between Myra's teeth. Putting one hand on the shaft of the arrow and bracing the other against Myra's back she yanked the arrow free. Blood poured from the wound at an alarming rate.
With no time to spare Morgianna moved her hands over the wound and brought forth her light magic to heal the wound. Over the years she had a lot of practice as they were constantly getting hurt during missions, but it was never this bad.
The wound healed quickly but just to be sure Morgianna poured a little more magic into it. When she was finished she saw that Myra was passed out, from the pain or healing either one put a shock on the body. She laid her down on the sand and looked up at the ship, her eyes going cold.
She called the winds from the seas and a swirling vortex began to spin, it seemed angry and raw just like her feelings. She stood from where she was crouching and began to walk towards the ship's deck as if stairs were under her feet.
The scene that greeted her was enough to raise the temperature of her already boiling blood. Fafnir was surrounded by at least 30 men while the well-dressed one sat back with a sickeningly sweet smile plastered to his face.
"Perhaps you would like to tell us where your kingdom is so we can pay it a visit. Maybe tell a loved one of your demise."
Fafnir had a few cuts on him but overall he seemed to be alright. "The only words you are going to hear from me is f*** you."
At that the man laughed causing all the men around him to join in. "Well you are handsome, so if you insist. Maybe we could have some fun, I would have preferred a woman, but as my companions had told you, it has been months since we had even laid eyes on a one and you had to go and play the hero."
As all the men were laughing a bell-like laugh joined in causing the men to turn in its direction. There floating above them was Morgianna lying on a cushion of air as she watched them. "Fafnir I know you are stronger than this. Also don't let dirty things touch you." Her eyes flashed an unreadable emotion as she looked at the men surrounding him. "And you men wouldn't even be worthy enough to kiss his feet." With a flick of her wrist an air current scooped up Fafnir and deposited him back on the ground where Myra still lay passed out.
Her eyes lazily roamed over the men below her until they landed on the one who caused Myra to get hurt.
"I warned you that I would send you to the depths of the ocean. Instead of heeding my warning you tried to kill me and hurt someone I cared about in the process." She stood on her air cushion and looked down on the men with hatred. "Hold your breath."
As she spoke those last three words the ship began to tremble and then slowly lift from where it was docked causing all the men to call out in fright.
Morgiannas could feel her head begin to pound as she pulled more magic than she ever had before. She locked her eyes on the man who caused her anger and let his face fuel her desire to sink them into the deepest trench. He looked back at her his once smiling face showing a new emotion that she found she liked quite a bit, fear.
The ship climbed higher into the sky, the boards trembling with the winds that crashed against it. The vortex that had begun to form in the sea had grown quite large and gave the visual effect of a plug being pulled and the water draining. Maneuvering the ship above the vortex she pushed one last time, causing the ship to rise to unimaginable heights. A drop from that height would break the ship to pieces upon impact.
A trickle of blood began to leak from her nose but still she did not take her eyes off the ship. Releasing the pressure she watched it fall from the sky and hit the vortex. Wood splintered and bodies flew through the air. She started to feel dizzy but refused to stop until it was completely gone. Until each and every piece was erased from her sight.
As the last board sunk below the water she finally stopped. The hold she had on her consciousness began to flicker. She looked to where Fafnir stood next to Myra and felt a spark of warmth reenter her cold body. She blinked and found herself falling.
As she fell through the sky she had a dark thought. 'I probably deserve to break to pieces just like I did to them.' She closed her eyes and prepared for the impact that never came. Warm arms surrounded her and she felt weightless.
Fafnir had caught her and was looking at her with complex emotions. He had never seen her act the way she had and found it quite honestly scary. He knew she was powerful but when she used it she appeared almost like a different person.
Morgiannas tried to open her heavy eyes but found her body not responding. She hated that she loved how powerful she had felt. Hated that her anger caused her to take things to such an extreme. It wasn't until she looked at her friends that she felt even the slightest bit of peace trickle into her heart
"Shhhh it's okay, I am here." Fafnir crushed her hair back from her forehead and cleaned the blood from around her nose. He did not know what had caused the shift inside of her but he would protect her, even if he had to protect her from herself.
As he took care of the two women Fafnir did not notice they had an audience. A young boy with blue hair and bright blue eyes floated in the water, only his head visible. He had watched the power Morgianna had used and felt that he had been cheated. "It seems I was lied to. A dunce at magic they said... When really she is probably more powerful than anyone I have ever met." With those words he sunk below the water and left to tell his father what had occurred.
