I was fuming the following Monday morning because of the chaos created by Amanda's sloppiness.
"Are you out of your mind or just plain stupid?!" I thundered in the room while Amanda stood still with her head down.
"That was an important meeting and thanks to you... our client has to think twice before signing the contract. Is that what you meant by giving it your all? How disappointing!" I yelled. And out of anger, I yanked at the contract and slammed it on the table in front of her causing her to jolt.
"I... I am sorry, sir. I was busy answering the business call so I wasn't able to listen to your instructions. It won't happen again," she said stammering with tears brimming in her rounded eyes.
I looked at her for a moment, my chest rising and falling in contained anger. "Hah! Sorry? Just quit your job if you can't even handle a simple task well," I ranted before leaving her red in the face.
It's been a month since Amanda started working as my PA and I've noticed how bright she was. She worked as a cow and she's meticulous too. Despite her excellent working habits, I still felt skeptical about it. I didn't know why, but there's something in her that stirred up my mind.
'Was I too harsh on her?' I asked myself, feeling guilty. My conscience was even bugging me to apologize. I brushed my hair with my hands in frustration.
"Uh! Whatever!" I muttered ignoring the guilty feeling. I pressed the intercom and she came inside the office when I asked her to.
"Push all my appointments to the afternoon. I have an emergency meeting with a potential business partner," I instructed. She took down notes as she listened.
"Okay, sir. Ah, by the way, Sheryl called. She's yelling. What should I tell her?" I held my temple as soon as she mentioned my menacing sister's name.
"I will take care of her," I replied while dialing my sister's number on my phone. She nodded before walking out the door.
Later that day, I went to Luke's office at the heart of the city. The door was slightly open, so I didn't bother knocking. I pushed the door and to my surprise--- Luke was making out with a blond girl on the couch. I cleared my throat after taking a photo.
"Jesus Christ! Don't you know how to knock?" Luke exclaimed as he impulsively stood causing the woman to fall on the couch.
"Sorry, Mary," he said while helping her stand up.
"It's Merly! Dumbass!" she yelled after slapping Luke's extended hand. She grabbed her bag and stormed out of the room.
I pressed my lips hard to control my laugher. I nodded at her as she left before I turned to Luke who was sitting comfortably on his swivel chair. I let out a burst of thunderous laughter while sitting on the divan near the window.
"When will you stop fooling around?" I asked, shaking my head.
"When no more women around," he replied casually. "Anyway, did you come here to scold me, "dad"? C'mon, tell me the problem?"
I fidgeted the table. "The brat is on her way from Paris, so can you call Owen to take care of her? Ask him to come over within an hour," I said.
He looked at me suspiciously and I knew he wasn't buying it. "Oh, Anderson! You don't need my help to do that?" he said while looking at me intently.
I took a deep breath then sighed, "Actually, I yelled at Amanda this morning because of a petty mistake."
"And?" he replied.
I cleared my throat, "I told her to prepare a cup of coffee for Dr. Wright. You know him. He's a picky person and a certified womanizer."
"Yes. Yes. So, what happened?" he asked impatiently. This is something that I like about him. He doesn't wanna beat around the bush.
"So, Amanda came with a cup of Jasmine tea, so he got mad about it. But suddenly, he looked at her from head to toe before asking her phone number. She refused politely, then he snapped and said that he won't be signing the contract unless she eats dinner with him," I explained.
"So, what's the problem?" Luke asked amused.
"You know her. She's stubborn when provoked. Well, she took his phone and saved her number. Then, she slammed it on his chest," I added. I smiled at his reaction. His jaw dropped while his hands were behind his head.
"Whoah! She's amazing. I think I have already fallen in love with her!" he joked as I frowned. "No... I mean... no one ever dared to do that to the high and mighty Andrew Wright. I wonder how he is right now," he explained while laughing.
"The hell I care!" I said uninterestedly.
"Then... why were you pissed?" he asked as he towered in front of me with his hands on his waist.
"Coz' I heard Amanda murmuring things like 'He's HANDSOME if only he's not arrogant! Hmph!' Know what I mean?" I replied not masking my irritation as the memory flashed in my mind.
He hit my head with the book he grabbed from his table.
"The ever jealous Bradley Garcia Anderson!" he teased. "Oh, Andrew your handsome but please be kinder," he continued mimicking Amanda's voice while touching my face.
"Open your mouth one more time with that nonsense, I will send your photo to the McKnights," I said with a smirk on my face. His hand was suspended in the air as he stared at me, weighing the honesty in my words.
"You mean... " he asked. I nodded with a triumphant smile. I impulsively grabbed my phone on the table and jumped over the divan as he chased me around. Luckily, my free-running skills helped me escape with ease.
"Fuck you, Brad!" he said catching his breath.
"Curse all you want, Adams. The hell I care," I teased, grinning from ear to ear.
"If you ever show that to the McKnights, you're dead!" he warned. Then, the door opened.
"Did we just hear our name?" Shane asked as they entered the room.
"What photo?" Owen said while looking at me and then Luke, who looked nervous.
"Don't you even dare Anderson! I mean it," Luke said when I held my phone high trying to show the photo to the brothers.
"Luke," Shane called distracting him, so I passed my phone to Owen. Luke ran towards him, but Owen being a soccer player, somersaulted and kicked my phone to Shane.
"Ta-da!" Shane and Owen were so delighted when they finally saw the photo. Unending teasing filled the room.
"Get the fuck out of my office! Bastards!" Luke yelled in desperation. We just laughed at his reaction.
"Anyway, my mom just texted me inviting you guys to dine with us tonight coz the bratty princess has finally arrived," I told them as they cheered.
