Chereads / Canis Lupus / Chapter 3 - Seer

Chapter 3 - Seer

The wolf in the cell is small and brown. It's human has to be young, probably just a pup.

"Hello little one." I crouch down outside the silver bars. "You need to change back or I'll have to change you."

I gestured to the wolfsbane drink in my beta, Ignis' hand. The wolf cowered in the farthest corner.

"Do you know how to shift?" Ignis asked gently.

Its ears perked up and its head shook no. Must be the first time the wolf has phased.

"Do as I ask or its the wolfsbane. Trust me, my way is less painful." I warn. "Calm your body and your mind. Tell your wolf I am here to help. My name is Alpha Regina Nox and I give my word as Alpha I do not intend to hurt you."

At the sound of my name the wolf hopped up and down.

"I said calm your body." I growled low but unthreateningly.

"You might have to give an Alpha order." Ignis shrugged. "The poor kid has to be like 7 or 8."

I sighed. I've used Alpha orders on rogues before and the surge of power they leave can keep me awake for what feels like days. The elders said if I used the Alpha order more, the power wouldn't surge like it does.

"Sit." I order firmly. The wolf complies. "Calm your body and give control back to your human."

Brown fur started fading as a little girl emerged from the chaos. When she shifted back she was on all fours. Ignis set down the glass of wolfsbane then took off his shirt and threw it in the cell. The girl put it over her body. She sniffed it and made a face like she thought it smelled gross.

"Hey, that shirt is clean. I just got it out of the dryer." Ignis brows furrowed.

"I'm sorry." She stood up but her eyes were on the ground. "Your natural smell tells me you've killed and will kill a lot."

Ignis tilted his head to stare at her. I had subconsciously did the same. "You're a seer."

It was a statement, not a question. As soon as it left my lips I knew it was true.

"Why are you here at Clan Solis?" Ignis asks.

"To find you." She looks up at me. I realize then her hair is white as snow and her eyes are too. They lack a cornea and pupil.

"Alpha," Ignis steps between us.

"She's a seer not a witch." I push him out of the way.

"So tell me little one," she inches nervously toward the bars, "what do you see?"

"The tournament will be your undoing but also your salvation." Her voice was monotone like her body was not her own.

"That wasn't ominous at all." Ignis eyes me wearily.

"Why did you leave your pack to warn me?"

"My pack was destroyed by the Argenteus Clan."

"The Silver Pack?" I breathe.

They are one of the largest most deadly clans of our area. We have an alliance with them, but I heard their Alpha passed away this year. At the tournament, I've scheduled a meeting with the new Alpha. For the life of me, I can't remember his name.

"Was there conflict?" Ignis looks at me with a worried expression.

"No," She said slowly, deliberately taking her time, "they wanted me."

Seer wolves are rare and valuable.

"Why?"

"I'm a hybrid."

"Of?"

"Biologically, I'm a quarter vampire, a quarter witch, and half werewolf." We exchanged glances as she continues. "My mother was half witch, half vampire while my father was a werewolf. The Moon Goddess has a funny way of choosing mates."

I realized when she said that her face was turned in my direction. My necklace made a thud as I dropped it. It hit just below my breast bone softly. The skinny gold chain slowly stopped swaying.

She knew then.

"Beta, get the initiation room ready."

The girl smiled at me.

"Alpha are you sure?"

I gave him a look that had him hurrying on his way.

"You knew I would take you in and make you a part of our pack."

"The future is hazy, always changing." She shrugs.

"You're what 8?"

"Wisdom comes in many forms."

"So you know about my necklace?" I whisper, coming closer to the silver bars.

She comes closer too. "I know what that necklace does for you and all the magic you've put in place around your territory."

"I was curious how you got through the barrier."

"Because I intend you no harm."

"There's always a loophole, isn't there?"

"With magic? Absolutely."
