We found a tavern just a few streets away from the center of the town, base on its appearance it is one of the most prestigious ones in the area. I stay in my room first as I let my father take care of my mother's wound. We agree that they will talk to me after we have gotten our rest. As soon as I lay on the bed, I fell asleep.
The sun was setting when I woke up; I'm confused at first as to where I am, then it occurred to me; the stranger, the assassins, a portal, and a strange yet familiar world. Everything changes in just over a couple of hours—days? I don't know anymore if it's even the same day or not.
"I have to know everything," I said to myself. I noticed a tub of water at the corner of the room and washed my face, "I need to brush my teeth, I wonder if they have toothbrushes and toothpaste here" I thought to myself. Well, it'll be an inconvenience if that's not the case, imagine you are used to cleaning your teeth with a proper brush and a paste, then you got transported to a different place and to make your breath fresh, you have to nibble some herbs. Just thinking about it made me shudder. After washing my face and gurgle with the warm tea I found, I went to my parent's room and knocked.
"Come in," my father called. I pushed open the door, and I saw my mother and father sitting at the table by the window, I walked right up to them and said, "Will you explain everything to me now?" They looked at each other and nod.
"Sit down, Enya," my father said. I sat and looked at them expectantly.
"Your mother once told you that we are born here, in this world; me and your mother. This place that we are currently at is Merust Yard, it is a tiny village at the Bergenim Town. We are in a realm were magic and Knights existed. This is the Cigen Continent and we are in the Zaenia Kingdom; I was born into the royal family, I am the third son and the second in line to the throne," He said. There are 5 Kingdoms in this continent, each Kingdom has its own trade. Zaenia Kingdom - Craftsmen. May it be weapons, jewelry, or armors. Rerean Kingdom - Livestock. From poultry to pets, they have it. Vegia Kingdom - Fruits and Vegetables. Slithen Kingdom - Rice and Herbs. And Senad Kingdom - Fort and it's seafood. Each Kingdom is important to one another to survive.
My father explains everything about this Realm, but still…
"But why did you leave? Why did I grow up to the mortal world?" I ask after my father stopped talking about the continent and its kingdoms. What I want to learn more is about who we are. I observed him carefully and noticed that he looked older than what his actual age is, I feel guilty of what I am pressuring him to tell me but I need answers. He noticed me looking, and he smiles. "The reason we left it's because of a prophecy," he said. I did not expect that answer, prophecy isn't that a bit of a cliché? Most if not all the books, movies regarding someone to have a prophecy about themselves are to be hidden that makes the life of the character most of the time miserable.
"A prophecy? Of what or who?" I asked.
"The prophecy indicated that a destine a child born into Nobelity to release the feared beast. No one really knows what kind of beast was it, but it was always part of our belief that there was once a horrendous beast roam this place. But brave Magic Knights come together to defeat that beast. But it was too strong for them, and the only thing that they could do was to seal it at the Black Mountain, where there is no life. Over the years many brave souls went to look for the said prison to finish what they started, but no one could find the place. But at the foot of the Black Mountain, there was a warning written on a stone, and it said;
A lost Noble will find the Way,
To awaken the beast.
To know the Noble, look for the sign;
Marked on the skin, moves like a vine.
Many feared what was written on that stone, some say it was the beast soothsayer write it before she kills herself," My father said. It sounds like it was part of the plot of a story. I'll be amazed if it turned out that the said beast is a Dragon like every story ever told.
But what it has to do with us?
I just sat there waiting for him to continue, but he just stared at me. As if I should have thought of something.
"Really, Enya?" My mother finally said.
"What?" I asked, confused about their reaction.
"What does your birthmark looked like?" My mother asked me.
"It looks like… a… V-Vi-Vine…, "I stumbled at my words when I finally realize why I was taken away.
"But what's that got to do with me? So what if I have a birthmark that looks like a vine crawling on my skins? I don't even know where's that beast you are talking about!" I screamed out my frustration. I wish all of this was just a dream, that I could wake up soon.
"We don't know, Enya. We don't even know about the part of being lost means," My father murmured. My mother reached for my hands. That's when I noticed my mother's arm in a sling. She's hurt, and here I am being a self-centered ungrateful daughter.
"Mother, how are you?" I asked, ashamed of how I act since waking up. She just smiles at me and said, "You are afraid. I understand how you feel, if I was you I might act worst."
I have nothing to say with that, so I face my father again and asked. "Do you at least know who enlist those assassins?"
"I have an idea, but…" A speculative look was clear on his face as he gives the idea some thought. "There is a group of people who claim that they are the descendants of the Knights who first seal the beast at the Black Mountain. They've called themselves The Wardens. They've appointed themselves to make that the prophecy will never happen, whether it's real or just the words of a madwoman," My father added.
After our talk, I took a walk at the back of the tavern. The entire place is already in full swing. Brute and Burly men shouting for beers or foods, men in armor—knights, I presume—talking quietly at the corner. I can hear the muffled sound of their conversations, as I gaze at the unfamiliar night sky. I was still trying to comprehend the things my father said when I felt someone gaze on me, I looked around, but I saw no one.
I just assume that someone passed by and take a looked at me. So I resumed my star gazing. But it happens again, and this time I know that whoever is behind it, they are looking at me. Because the gaze I felt has a killer intent. I quickly stood up, fully intended to go inside the tavern. At least I know, with lots of people inside, no one would dare to do anything that would attract anyone's attention. But before I could reach the door, a heavy object hit me from behind, and the last thing that I can remember is a voice saying, "Hurry, and carry her."
A throbbing ache in her head wakes her up. She Groans as she tries to stand up, but something is binding her hands. She opens her eyes and saw that she was tied up by a cliff where a roaring sea as it smashed itself to the wall of the cliff can be heard. Then I remember that I was about to return inside the tavern when something or someone hit me in the head.
I tried to move to look at my surroundings when I notice two men standing not that far away from me. I can hear what they were talking about, but base on their action, it seems like they were arguing.
I have to get out of here; I thought to myself. I try to crawl away from them, but one of them notice me and came stamping towards me. He wore a black robe, but as he was walking I saw that he was wearing armor. Maybe a knight? Or a soldier.
"Do you think you can escape us? Princess?" He snarled at me, "Do you think that your parents can hide your existence or your identity?" He shoves me away and stood up. I have the notion that he was going to kick me in the face but instead, he pulled out a dagger and without hesitation, stab me.
