She took a few steps towards the kitchen and stopped halfway when she realised that he hadn't let go of her right hand.
"I will need both my hands to start the fire" she said, clearing her throat.
"Getting smart, are we" he seemed amused and she was curious about what goes inside that thick skull.
She breathed out as calmly as she could under the weather to try and calm the raging tide threating to swallow her whole.
This creature was being impossible with her!
He watched her squirm and try to shrink beneath his heated gaze but she was trapped and she could only run for only so long. Why did she try to run away from him, every small chance she got? He couldn't really tell so he decided to run his mouth to try and gauge the answers he sought after.
"Do you make an effort to run away from every male you come across or its just me?"
She almost choked on nothing, trying to wet her dry throat with saliva that happened to dry up like a well in the Sahara desert.
Why must he attack her with words like that?
"I run from no one"
She seemed adamant to hold on to the fleeing strand of stubbornness which was the only thing with which her reluctance stemmed from.
"I must be the unlucky one then" he seemed deep in thought for some reason as if he made a sudden, unsettling discovery.
"It's getting late Salem, you need to take that bathe so I can also have mine before night falls" she attempted to steer the conversation to its point of origin.
She couldn't be sure about his knowledge of women or lack thereof, but she was sure he knew her bathe was nothing like his. The males normally do an in and out job like they have no real flagged arrears but what did she know? Maybe they had none at all but she was sure she was going to regret standing here idly, arguing about mundane things.
He let his eyes linger on her more than a few minutes before letting her go. Who knew that his self-righteous prick of a half brother was the needed trigher to illuminate what he had with him. He knew the conquences and the harsh repercussion that followed soon after the full impact of regret. Will she ever look at her the same way? Could he risk telling her the truth to an even bigger risk of losing her. He knew it was selfish of him to want her all to himself but he was helpless when it came to her.
The risk is too high and he just couldn't take it. He was happy having her as a . . . friend, as opposed to losing her completely.
"I will be back shortly" he muttered before disappearing in the general direction of the lake.
She quickly rushed inside with quiet foot steps to avoid disturbing Kayla in her sleep. She tip toed to where she was sleeping and found her to be still sound asleep. She envied her peaceful state and wished that for a moment, she could close her eyes and draw in the peace from its residing bowels. She went back to the kitchen to seach for a fire lighter which didn't take long for her to find and in no time, the fire was in motion. She almost squealed like a child when she spotted a fireplace that looked handmade with no plan in mind but it was a fireplace nonetheless so she was going to put it to good use. She got it running before lighting up the single lantern in the room.
It seemed that this particular male preferred darkness even when he had the means to touch the light. A single lantern didn't do much to light up a room during this type of season . . . the room remained in partial darkness with the fireplace in full motion and the single lantern so what was to be said in the absence of the fireplace warming up the place with its soothing brightness. Once again she felt drawn to the flames with the consciousness to at least stay five feet away from it. She felt a kindle in her soul that words could not describe. She heard them sing again and give praise to the source that gave life to fire. She listened closed and the melody was like nothing she had heard before . . . It was soothing like the song of protection but with the element of lament lacing the humming voices in the background. What kind of tune was this? Her soul seemed to come alive with every hum but no words actually came to pass from the voices who only hummed the tune.
"Where did you hear that song from?" she jumped back, almost taking the table to the ground with her but she balanced just in time.
"I didn't see you come in" she smiled awkwardly trying to process the most feasible answer for his question.
"I didn't mean to startle you. I just came in now" she looked at his still bloodied shoulder to tell he had come back with something to eat.
"Please sit" she took an old rag near the fireplace, wet it before going to clean his bloodied shoulder.
If she is wrong for doing this then she was definitely going to have to find her mother so she can compain and whine until her throat runs dry.
He smiled heartily and she looked at him with concern. Her female instincts gaining momentum the moment the laid her hands on his shoulder.
She was someone who knew how to express genuine gratitude and her meeting him halfway in terms of taking care of them, was the least she could do.
"Now I can't wait to meet your mama but im not sure your papa will be so pleased as to why" he mused.
"Errr . . . okay" she couldn't bring herself to say whether he meant it to be a compliment or otherwise so she was dumbfounded.
What would please mama that could possibly unsettle papa?
They always seemed to want the same thing to her so she brushed the thought off.
"She taught you well . . . or you were an exceptional observer. Whichever one it is, I can't complain" he observed her tender facial features as her hand glided over his shoulder to see her step back as if admiring her handy work before she patted the shoulder in satisfaction.
She was about to turn arpund when she heard him say "Thank you"
Now that would've seem as perfectly normal to the average person but Hannah was stunned to silence. Did he just say that? She whipped her head around to inspect his whole body this time to make sure he wasn't hurt or bleeding. There was no apparent sign that he was hurt but she had to make sure.
So he did knew how to be courteous when it needs be.
She smiled at him and saw him still observing her like a predator but she subtly ignore the sharp gaze trained on her.
"I will go take my bathe now"
She said making her way to exit the door but then he said "Mind if I tag along?"
Did she knew of any witch that could spot and heal brain damage? Well not that she could think of because the people she grew up around had perfectly fine heads so what went wrong with this one particular male?
"Does your tongue know no boundaries?" she looked at him for an honest answer.
"It depends really . . . How far would you have it running"
His tongue!
Why did she phrase the question like that! Now she wondered if something was wrong with her too or this male was rubbing off on her at an alarmingly rapid rate.
His tongue made a peep to glide sensously over his lower lip, shaking her barriers loose and she shivered as she felt her spine tingle.
This was not supposed to be happening, at least not twice in one night!
