Lander stared at the alpha then at the cub and the white wolf. He then slowly walked toward the alpha who was injured. But the white wolf didn't allow him as it tried to block his path, "GRRRRRRR!"
Lander stopped, standing there unmoving for a while then he squatted and stared at the cub, "Hey there little wolf, I would like to help your old man but it seems your mother won't let me. What do you say?"
The cub stared back at him and as if he understood what he said, he howled. After that he went towards Lander wiggling his tail then it faced the white wolf, "GRRRR!"
Lander patted the wolf's head then went towards the alpha wolf followed by the cub. Although the white wolf was still hindering the path, he didn't care and went to check the alpha's wounds. He saw lots of blood coming out from the alpha's major wound, the upper limb of its front feet so he shouted, "Yan Yan come out and bring our stuff here. Hurry!"
Yan Yan who was shouting was scared witless. She was afraid that the white wolf might bite him. Upon hearing the shout, she slowly carried the bag of Lander and her pouch while she ventured towards Lander and the wolves trembling.
Seeing another human walking towards them, the white wolf pounced in front of Yan Yan. Yan Yan thought she would be bitten so she used Lander's bag as a shield.
Lander on the other hand was worried that the alpha might die due to blood loss, he hurriedly went to grab the bag and the pouch from Yan Yan. "I'll borrow your clothes in the meantime."
After that, he first drank a mouthful of alcohol before dropping and anointing some of it to all its wounds. This made the alpha wolf howl and try to struggle but Lander gave a little pressure to its wound making the alpha struggle less. After ensuring that the wolf stabilized, he hurriedly tore off the clothes and then used them to patch the alpha's wound. When he was able to stop the blood from coming out of the alpha's body, he stood up and looked at the cub, "Hey there little wolf, your old man needs a safe place to rest. Do you know a place like that?"
The cub wolf wiggled its tail and faced a certain direction, towards the forest. Lander smiled at it as he carried the alpha's body, "Lead the way little one."
"Are you just going to stand there? Don't be scared, we are helping them so they won't hurt as." He looked back at Yan Yan who was still dazed and trembling.
She heard from her grandfather that wolves are the weakest beast found in all the forest of Wyvern Region but they still made her scared. Seeing that Lander was following the cub and on his back was the white wolf, she bit her lips and decided to follow them keeping a distance.
After walking for a kilometer and a half, the cub led them into a small cave with a diameter of 10 meters and 30 meters away from the entrance. They entered, Lander laid the alpha's body on the ground and checked its pulse. Then he gave himself a mouthful of drink of alcohol then made his way to the white wolf. The white wolf, as always became wary of him so Lander decided to throw some alcohol into its wound. He didn't mind if the alcohol would be wasted and would land on the white wolf's wounds or not. The reality was harsh as the white wolf evaded the alcohol so all of it was wasted.
Lander gave the empty jar to Yan Yan who was a distance away from them, "Go fetch me a clean water."
On their way to the cave, they passed a spring, and knowing that it was not far away from them, Yan Yan agreed and dashed out of the cave.
Lander looked at the white wolf, "Do not worry, your husband will recover. But we need to supply him with food. So if you still want your husband to survive, go and hunt some food and bring it here."
The white wolf stared at him and then lay down beside the alpha. "I guess you don't understand what I'm saying but why is it this little wolf seemed to understand everything I said?"
He patted the cub's head and caressed his body while still gazing at the white wolf. The little wolf rubbed its head toward Lander's hand and licked his foot, "Since you want your husband to die from hunger then I won't be sharing our food with you."
Then he went out for a while collecting a load of dried wood. He went back and began unpacking, bringing out the pan, wok, meats, salt, and other ingredients. He has no lighter or a match and starts a fire manually by rubbing two pieces of wood into each other. This was something he learned when he was part of the Boy Scouts when he was young.
After a fire was lit, Yan Yan came back carrying the jar of water. She saw Lander preparing the meat so she tried to help by setting up the cooking area in which she carried three large rocks surrounding the fire area via a triangular formation. She again carried another three large rocks to set up another cooking area as she inferred that Lander would use the pan and the wok.
While Lander was rubbing some spices and salt into the meat, he saw how reliable Yan Yan was. She knew things that made her actions convenient, Lander admired this side of her and he smiled at her which made Yan Yan blush and look away.
Lander planned to have a grilled barbecue with a meat stew. After setting up the cooking area, he first barbecued the meat while he used the other cooking area to make some stew. After barbecuing, he grilled it and added another spice to the barbecued meat. Then the aroma started to drift off.
The cub who was always following Lander and his every action, brought out its tongue with some saliva dripping as he wiggled and a look of eagerness appeared in its eyes. The white wolf also sniffed the aroma, it opened its eyes and looked toward the meat but then it saw Lander so it closed its eyes again. The alpha on the other hand woke up because of the aroma, he looked at Lander then the meat and it growled, "Growl!"
Lander heard the growling and looked back at the alpha and the white wolf, "You want some? Well, I don't share foods with the likes of you knowing that you guys have big appetites. If you want to eat ask your partner."
The white wolf lifted its head and looked at Lander. But Lander never spared it a glance and continued cooking. The cub understanding Lander's words, faced its parents and growled as if conversing with them. The alpha also looked at the white wolf and growled at it. These growlings took a while before the white wolf stood up and left the cave while the cub went back beside Lander with anticipation.
After cooking, Lander gave some meats to Yan Yan and he began eating the other meats. The cub beside it was growling and also the alpha at the back who was salivating, "You guys want some? Unfortunately, this will not be enough for all of us. But I will give some to you of course little buddy."
The cub devoured the whole meat Lander gave to it. And it made the cub wolf so happy after tasting Lander's cooking, it started jumping all around.
After a while, the white wolf came back with three dead rabbits at its mouth. Seeing how happy it was, it made its way towards the alpha and dropped the rabbits in front of it. The alpha didn't devour the rabbits, instead, it looked towards Lander as if commanding him to cook the rabbits.
Lander wasn't a bad person, so he went to grab the rabbits and skinned the three rabbits before grilling. He made a stew out of one rabbit. Then he placed the barbecued rabbits in front of the alpha. He also poured a stew in front of the three wolves.
While they were eating, they heard the roar of an animal. Lander holding a knife and barbecue in both hands and the white wolf slurping the stew was alarmed and stood up rushing in front of the cave. Yan Yan was scared upon hearing it while the alpha tried to stand up but because of its injury, it couldn't. The cub slowly looked innocently towards the entrance of the cave.
