When I woke that afternoon, it was already late in the day. I had felt so comfortable sleeping beside him that I had accidently overslept.
"Dakota...." I shook him, but he didn't wake.
"Dakota, we have to go on patrol tonight, and the sun will be going down soon."
He opened an eye. "What?" Then he sat up abruptly, suddenly wide awake.
"Mind if I take a shower?" Even though we would be going back on patrol for the last night of the full moon, I felt grubby and I had to bathe. If I didn't, I would scare off the werewolves with just my stench alone.
"Sure." Then he raised an eyebrow, looking into my eyes. "Mind if I join you?"
"Yes, I mind!" I yelled, pushing him off the bed.
"Hey!" he yelled, laughing as he got to his feet. "You can't blame me for trying."
