Michelle's head snapped up, having caught the implication. Dakota had said he grew up here, but that no one had been here for centuries. She looked at me with wide eyes.
I shook my head, silently telling her that she couldn't tell anyone. Like it or not, she was one of us now, and obligated to keep our secrets.
"It's going to take a lot to fix this place up," Michelle said as she stepped into the cabin.
Dakota nodded. "Yes, but not in the way you think."
Michelle scoffed. "You don't expect me to stay here in this condition, do you?"
Micah stepped to her side and shook his head in silent warning. "We'll fix it up, but it's nice of Dakota to do this. Don't you think?"
Michelle sighed, nodding. "Yes, you're right." Then she turned to Dakota. "Thank you for this. I won't forget your kindness." Wow! I could already tell that Micah was going to be good for Michelle.
