Returning home I seat to study. I'll not leave any homework for tommorow. "Right!!", I say to myself. After 4 hours of continuous study I finally finish all my homework.
"Densetsu! Come let's eat!"
"Yeah dad!" That's strange, he never calls me to eat. Is this how it was like when mom was here? Otherwise, how did I give that answer so instinctively?
Looks like dad's finished with his meal. I take my plate and start putting food on it while looking at the TV. It seems, some war is braking out against nuclear power. Wow, people are really being violent.
"Looks like war is about to take place."
"What?"
"A world war, between the countries who has nuclear power and who don't."
"So, we are on non-nuclear side I guess?"
"Yes, they are calling us 'inculto' I believe."
"Inculto? What a strange name?!"
I hear a strange rattling when I wake up the next morning. As I go to the balcony, I see tanks and army jeeps patrolling the roads. This is quite unexpected. Did the war really start? This fast? But how? As I get out of my room I find that my dad left for office a while ago. What should I do now? I call Tachibana's number and thank goodness she receives it.
"Hello, dense-kun?"
"Are you alright, Tachibana-san?"
"Yes, I'm fine. But I don't know for how long. My mom and dad joined the war"
"What!? How!?"
"They are high ranking officers in military, what do you mean how!?"
"You never told me that!"
"Why didn't you ever ask dummy!?"
"Are you gonna be alright?"
"I don't think so. Mom said they won't be back home untill the war's over. I don't have anyone to stay with now."
"Just wait at the river side. I'm going to come get you."
"What about your dad?"
"He probably left for office."
"Is he going to be ok?"
"I don't know. I don't think I have to care about that."
"What are you even saying!?"
"Look, don't argue with me on this. If you want to meet me then come to the river"
"But...."
I hang up the phone call. As the rattles continue I just stand there thinking of my past, and how it might change for the worse now.
"It's almost 4 o'clock now. Tachibana should be here any minute now. What am I supposed to do now? Take care of her? I brought some money with me. But will it be enough? What about shelter? I can't think straight at all. She'll probably figure something out, right? She is a smart girl afterall. What about Kaigara though. Is he alright? I hope he is. All sorts of stuffs are crossing through my head. It's almost overwhelming. Yet my brain is processing each bit of information carefully. It feels like I just became an adult in one day. No, it's not that. It's more like I have to become an adult in one day. What a strange thing to feel while war is on its way. Wait, haven't I thought of something like this before. Its was about a dream, right? Wait, dream? Was that dream about Tachibana some kind of forecast. If that is true, then will that romantic stuff... What am I even thinking. That sort of things only happen in fiction..." I keep muttering as the sun sets. She never showed up. All that was there was the sound of trucks and military boot rythms. Not her heavy breathe or fast footsteps while she runs towards me.
