~Myra~
I've been a zombie this past few days, got out of bed every morning and making my way down to Manhattan to Ryan's building. I've been keeping myself busy with editing and drowning in novels; anything to keep me occupied. These past few days without Ryan has given me time to think and come to my senses. Working in his building was a wake-up call, the way his employees feared him. I was getting sick of how perfect everything was there, not a single hair out of place.
I spent my office hours interviewing his workers, asking what he was like. It was for the memoir I was working on. So far all I had was his life achievements and how his employees respected him. I needed insight into his personal life: the real Ryan Kingsley. His assistant, Betty was no help. She's couldn't tell me what he does when he wasn't working. I almost called George, to tell him I quit. That I couldn't do this, I want to be as far away from Ryan as possible.
I was sitting in the corner of Ryan's office staring at his empty chair, he was coming back tonight. I was going to see him at 7 for dinner, dinner that I haven't made up my mind for yet. I jumped dropping the papers on my lap when I heard voices and footsteps coming from the corridor. Was that Ryan? Was he back? Getting on my knees to clear up the mess of paper I made just the door to Ryan's office slammed open.
"I told you Ma, your son isn't here." I hear Maggie the old receptionist say, sounding out of breath. Ryan's mother was here? I froze not knowing what to do.
"I just wanted to see for myself," she huffed out
I stay behind the desk, hoping they would leave without noticing me in here. The last thing I needed right now was to meet Ryan's mother, who sounded like she owned the place.
"When will my son be back?" I hear the authority in her voice as she walks deeper into the office.
"He's plane landed an hour ago, he should be here soon." It did? I can't see Ryan right now, my head is all over the place. I thought I still had time to think about it. I needed time.
"What are you doing?" I squeak when I felt a presence in front of me. I looked at the red leather boots in front of me, refusing to look up at who I knew was Ryan's mother. I stayed on the floor trying to pick up the papers.
"Excuse me?" She asked again
"Sorry, just ignore me. Just leaving," I say breathless getting up on my feet.
"Why are you hiding underneath my son's desk?"
Oh no, this wasn't going to look good.
"I wasn't hiding. The papers dropped so I was just erm....." I search my head for the words, pushing my curls out of my face. I finally peeked up at her face, she had some wrinkles on her milky skin. Her hair was in a perfectly made low bun, her lips were a bright red. I couldn't see the resemblance of Ryan in her, she had blonde hair and bright blue eyes. But they carried themselves the same, I could feel the power dripping from her.
"Waiting for my son to come back so you could seduce him?" She raised her brows and my eyes widened.
"Oh god, no Ma. Pa.... papers it drops... I just....." she waves her hands in my face-saving me from further embarrassment.
"Save it, I know young girls like you. Trying to get my son a poor heart. I know your type when I see them, come from a poor background? Force your way into my son's building? A lot of girls have tried to use him for his wealth and power, I assure you he won't be fooled by you." She stares at me like I was the dirt at the bottom of her red designer boots.
"I'm not..... I don't work....." I ran out of the room before I started crying. My body hits a hard surface.
"Myra?" a deep voice cuts into my skin. I calmed knowing it was Ryan, he was back.
"Myra?" The calmness was gone. I up glanced so I could see him. My hands were sweating my heart racing. Ryan was staring down, in a grey suit. He was looking at me before I blinked I was pushed against the wall.
"Mr Kingsley?" I say confused not sure what emotion he was feeling right now. Ryan stops right in front of my face. Staring down at me, frowning. I gasp when I felt his arm around my waist, he pulls me closer to his chest before slamming his lips against mine. His tongue moved against mine as I froze in shock. I began moving my lips against his, forgetting all the worry I had. This felt right, kissing him was right. I didn't ever stop kissing him.
"Ryan, darling!" I moan in protest when he pulled away from me.
"Shit." Ryan cursed before looking behind him to see his mother. I was grateful for his frame covering me from her.
"What are you doing with that girl?" I blush, wishing I could disappear into the wall.
"Mother, what are you doing here?" Ryan strides forward kissing his mother on her cheeks.
"I was in the city for lunch, though I should drop in to say hello." Her sweet voice fills the corridor.
"But I can see you are busy," I feel her eyes on me.
"Mother, this is Myra Williams." Ryan gestures in my direction.
"Myra, this is my mother. Diana Kingsley." Diana doesn't acknowledge me, her face turned sour as she glances my way.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Kingsley, I've heard wonderful things about you." I smile tightly not forgetting my manners even though Ryan has never mentioned anything about his family.
"Myra one of the best journalist in New York. I hired her for the new company project." Ryan stares at both of us with a confused expression.
"Really, what company do you work for?" Diana couldn't hide her stunned expression.
"The Call, I'm not a journalist yet. I just edit columns and write a few." I push my hair out of my face, Ryan was selling her a false dream.
"Myra wrote that article about me," Ryan's deep laughter fills the hall. I could kill him right here, was he intentionally doing this so his mother could hate me more.
"I see. You hired her after she insulted you?"
"I haven't accepted the job yet." I quickly say before Ryan could speak. He turns to look at me, his eyes were hard and no longer smiling.
"Why don't I escort you out mother, I have work to get done." Ryan guides his mother towards the lift before she could protest.
"You should do something about your hair and clothes if you gonna work here." Diana pauses in front of me.
"Maybe straighten it?" She shrugs glancing at Ryan.
"Look more presentable," Diana smiles.
"This way mother," Ryan grimace shrugging at me apologetically.
