lvl 1 Enabler ( Uncommon [I] )
I opened up my status board after healing Ray. Glaring at my messed up class choice. It couldn't be helped. For the past six years "Dominic" had lived in this village. Only now at this day did my memories come back to me.
In this game... NPC's are to choose one. Just one class! ONE! Frigging class unlike players who could have two. A main and a lifestyle sub class. At the age of five. NPC's are given the choice to pick one class that would stick to them throughout their whole lives. It was in a way, choosing your role in a society.
Therefore some NPC's would hold off on choosing their class. While the others...
Cringing... I started a trip back down the memory lane. Back to a time ahere I was still not aware of my true Identity as reincarnatee.
"I want to heal everyone!" That was what I apparently said to the village head when I was five years old.
Fvck Me!
This is all wrong!
Any class but this! Any physical class please! How am I supposed to unleash all my violence upon an oponent if my class was a support type???
Being a mage could be fine too... Maybe I'll just become the local pyromaniac who screams "Burnnnn!" Or "EXSHSPLOSHION!"
Ah right... I'm an enabler...
I can't do any of that destructive sh1t!
Dominic I need buffs!
Dominic I need healing!
Dominic stay at the back! We'll protect you!
What protect me? The monsters should be the ones protected from me instead!
Basically... Enablers was a class that was focused on full support. Buffs. Heals and all that jazz. They have... Zero... Zero offensive qualities. And it's not like a cleric who can atleast get some. Some magic oriented attacks from their skill tree.
"Damn it!" I cursed!
Ray flinched. Scratching the back of his golden hair embarrassedly while looking down to the side. Ah right... You're still here...
"Sorry... I still can't pay for your fees. Sorry! I'll pay you back definitely in the future!" Ray bowed at me. From the side of my eye I could see his face blushing red in shame.
Ah right... As the local "healer" (Fvck!). People would come to me for heals. That's why my lesser heal was lvl 2. Not the usual lvl 1 after starting.
This was due to a mechanic in Reverie. Yes... Skill points are still needed to unlock skills from your skill tree. But in order to level up the skills themselves?
You have to use them! Each use grants proficiency exp for the skill! Fill it up and bam! Your skill got stronger!
Isn't that a wonderful mechanic? It's a nod of acknowledgement for free to play gamers!
Hmm... From what I could remember during the beta testing days. There was this one guy. This one toxic guy who loved to trashtalk. He gained the taunt skill and five months into the game. It got maxed out.
Now NPC'S would flip with just one word from his mouth. Even if he says "Hi there!". It would sound like "fvck your mom" to the digital inhabitants.
Poor dude eventually chose to be silent and not talk during the rest of his game.
"I don't need your money..." I snorted at Ray who shivered. I already got enough money from treating the local peeps for one whole year. What I need is... To survive.
Two months from now. The bandits would arrive. Repe. Pillage. And kill everyone. The only reason Ray survive because the bandits laughed at his laughable fighting spirit. Choosing to confront them by himself after people started dying.
He put up a good fight against a grunt. But got beaten down by the bandit boss.
Yeahp! I'm not gonna have any of that!
Leave the village on my own? I wish.
Cain Village. Located on the outskirts of Magan Kingdom. By Outskirts. I mean the places not yet properly fortified and stationed with soldiers. In this village. Aside from the blacksmith, village head. And... Sigh... Ray... No one else knew how to fight. Oh right. The hunters can fight too. A bit...
Even if I head out now. I'll get killed by mobs. The village is flanked by a mountain range. located at a grassy plain while a forest loomed over it from the other side. We're sandwiched between natural barriers.
Kobolds. Goblins. Lizardmen. Fish People.
Those are some of the numerous monsters wandering around the area. Alone. An adult can kill them easily but when in a group. That's a different story.
"Say Ray... How about going on a journey with me to the Bright Town? Then We'll return a few months later." I cautiously asked Ray who gave me an awkward poker face.
Bright town is the nearest town to this village. Yet it is still kinda a little far away. About two weeks worth of travel by walking or running. I may not be able to beat back the mobs.
I eyed Ray who was contemplating his life choices. But if I support him and take our time slowly but safely traversing the plains. We could just make it to Bright Town.
So Ray? What do you say we skeddaddle out of here?
"As much as I want to see the world for myself. I'm sorry Dominic but I promised mom that I'll only leave this village after she was ready to see me off. Preferrably when I'm nine or ten years old. Goodluck on your journey though!" Ray apologized to me again.
Damn! You're going on a pkemon journey?
He sounded so sincere and honest which was true but....
That was akin to saying go kill yourself with a smile.
I clicked my tongue.
Ray o Ray you dense boy. Do you not understand that I'm a support type?
What Am I supposed to do? Heal myself if some kobold starts chopping me to bits?
This is a lost cause...
I sighed...
"Then take me with you where you usually train..." If I'm not strong enough to travel and Ray won't come with me. Then I'll just have to rise up to the challenge!
I'll train myself by phyical means.
Another core mechanic of Reverie was it's strange skill acquisition system. There we're four methods. Use skill points to unlock skills in the skill tree. Get a skill book and use it. Have someone impart you with their knowledge and lastly.
Do something repetitively.
I used to swing my sword fighting low level monsters for a full five days with breaks in between during my first time in the beta testing days. And suddenly I gained
[ Sword Proficiency lvl 1 ] ( Common ) out of the blue.
Two months huh.
I'll just have to get strong enough with hardwork to be able to kill low level mobs on my own.
And this Ray... He's been killing slimes for two years now. My safety should be guaranteed if I form a party with him while he kills slimes.
If I can't handle a slime or if I start losing my battle, he would step in to save me.
This disgusts me. I'm kinda using Ray but I need to survive. I'm an NPC now and not a player who could revive. A weak NPC at that.
"You know!?!?!" Ray screamed in panic. He covered his mouth. Looked around and sighed in relief since not many pass by my house early in the morning.
"Yes I do. I'm not an idiot Ray. Those wounds and bruises of yours are from constant training aren't they? And since you're low level I presume you sneak out to the forest's outer rim to pick on weak slimes right?" I'm fairly knowledgeable about this area thanks to me actually having read and asked the locals around as a child. They were the ones who told me which dangers to watch out for.
Basically everything would want to kill you but wild animals.
"I can't! I don't want you to get hurt!" He argued back.
"If you don't let me train with you then I'm so telling your mom. How would she react to her loveliest, one and only child being hurt all the time? I wonder..." I put on a thinking expression.
Ray winced. His clear blue eyes looking at me with pain. His smile sunk into downcast expression.
"Dominic I thought you were a good person. Now you're even blackmailing me! Aren't we friends? Ray complained.
How cute... Wanting to talk reason with me?
"But Ray... We are friends but I also thought you were a righteous person with morals. Aren't you taking advantage of my kindness by always asking for healing without even paying a single dime?" I reasoned.
Ray fell silent. Realization hitting him hard.
You want to reason with me? Ha! I. Dominic can twist right and wrong! I'm Shameless? Maybe? But who cares about that?
"Fine I'll take you! Just don't tell my mom..." Ray sighed. Defeated.
Success!
"But first. Let's have breakfast first. I'll cook you a nice dish!" I casually invited Ray into my house. His conflicted expression vanishing as he nodded and smiled.
"You're the best!" Ray rejoiced. Making me feel all smug.
Humph! Yes I am!
Ah children... Easily swayed by the prospect of food. Remember kids. Don't take candies from strangers!
I sighed... There's a lot of things I have to do. And a deadline with death as failure if I couldn't leave before two months.
But I won't give up. I'll definitely. Definitely do my best to survive.
I have to... I have to find out if players would still come to this world.
Then I need to find Elric.
I owe him an apology afterall.
