You would think I wanted to join the Frontier Corps for revenge, right? That was only half of the truth. In all honesty, I am a sadistic human who likes to see enemies die and perish for what they deserve. However, that still stems from the fact I lust for revenge. Heartless. Mindless. Soulless. I think of those low-life Wisps that way. I am, however, no different. Unlike my brother who loves to help people, ever since I was young, I was aggressive towards all. "The people who loved me are gone now." I would often distance myself from forming bonds, in fear of them being broken. Despite all that, I still yearn for company and love. Depression can really put you in a state of self-distrust and self-isolation.
Even though I passed the tests, I was a new recruit, and had to be put on probation, meaning I would act as a watcher, and all the rest would fight ahead. It was supposed to be an exposure for what is to come, for I could not enter the Frontier Crops just yet.
On the day of the expedition, I was told that there was a cluster located at Tenhook Avenue. Being my first time stepping out of the safeHaven, I was excited, but terrified. My guardian told me to get an EM Baton to kill Wisps if they attack, and an EM Pulsar. The EM Baton was easy to find, but finding the EM Pulsar was hard. The storehouse manager said that there were none left, for there was a large squad who took it, despite only patrolling along the border. The Pulsar is needed as it creates electromagnetic fields to protect yourself. I finally got one at a corner of the storehouse, albeit a little battered up and with rusting edges.
When we arrived at our destination, a wave of bright orange flames came our way and blazed the front row of our Corps. This was the moment I knew I got myself into a suicide mission. The members were injured, but capable of fighting, as they had their heat shields out at the last second. There were 4 Fire Wisps, known for their destructive nature, facing off against 4 is a death wish. As I was freaking out, the Leader charged forward, activated his EM Baton, and in one swipe, the Wisps evaporated into nothing. There were said to be 20 to 30 Wisps here, and there were not 20, not 10, not even 5. There was only one left. It was a Wisp so big and powerful that it was never seen before. It emanated such a strong aura and a menacing stature. I was the weakest of the group. The most mentally unstable. The most traumatised. I was targeted. I tried to turn on my EM Pulsar, except, it was faulty. Big surprise. I tried to swing my EM Baton but it broke. The Wisp was a Shadow Wisp and it entered my body. I could not see anything. "We need to use the ultimate weapon on it. The Arc Diffractioner" I felt a surge of energy blasted into my bones and veins. I was being "cleansed" before the Wisp took over my body. I was about to open my eyes when I felt a cold hammer hit me. "Trainee Ares! Trainee… Ares… Wake up…"
