Two weeks have passed since Class 1-A has started working on special moves. In that time Jason has sped up in creating hard-light objects. The same goes for solid-shadow objects. He is also able to maintain two objects at once, a costume, and create larger objects. He and his class have been doing their basic core classes like Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Hero Studies. George was top of the class for the core classes. Followed by Blake and Trinity. Jason was seventh. Today would be their first combat class. They would be testing their skills against one another.
"Listen up class." Zip shouts out. "You've all progressed your quirks quite a bit. And I'm sure your itching to test them. So today is your day." That grabbed everyone's attention. "Today you will be fighting one on one with each other. So grab your hero costumes and head to Battle Ground Charlie."
In an excited buzz the students of Class 1-A grab their costumes and go to get changed. Jason realizing he doesn't need a costume just follows after Zip. Jason walks behind Zip matching his pace so he doesn't catch up to him. After five minutes of walking like that Zip turns around. "Why don't you walk with me Jason? I wanted to talk to you anyways." He waits for a response. "Please Jason."
"Fine." Jason replies coldly.
"Thank you." Zip says sounding a little relieved. "I want to talk about the day your father died." Zip says and Jason stops and glares at him. "I know you blame me. For his death." He takes a shuddering breath. "I blame myself as well. If I had been better and not tried to corner that villain at that park your father would be alive. But it's because of your father that Clone and I are alive. If he hadn't been there we would be dead. Even after I lost my leg your father created a shadow version so I could fight until the end. Then I slingshot that villain into the parking lot. It is my fault your father died. And training you to be the best you can be is all I can think of to repay him." Zip says with tears streaming down his face. Looking at Jason he can see the boys tears running freely as well.
"I d-don't forgive y-you." Jason says through clenched teeth and tears.
"I don't ask you to. I ask you to let me train you and give you tips and tricks that your father had." Zip says. "Clone and I were his best friends. We know a lot about his quirk. What do you say?" Zip holds out his hand.
"If you can make me stronger than I say we got a deal." Jason shakes Zips hand.
"Alright let's get to Battle Ground Charlie." Zips says. As the pair walks off towards the battle ground Jason feels a little better. Not much but a little bit.
The pair arrives and Jason asks something that's been bugging him since day one. "Hey Zip. Why are there only thirteen students in Class 1-A? Aren't there normally twenty."
"Normally yes. But there are plenty of candidates whose powers are not given the chance to shine in the entrance exams so I took the top thirteen students as that's the required number to have a class. And after the sports festival there will be seven new students in Class 1-A." Zip explains confidently. "There may be people with flashy quirks among that group but there might be some hidden gems. That also means unless one of your classmates fails drastically then no one will be removed from the class."
"Oh. That's..... a really good reason actually. I heard some teachers will expel entire classes." Jason says with a small sigh.
"Yeah it's been known to happen." Zip confirms. "Not very often though."
As the students of Class 1-A arrive Jason creates his hero costume. As his two best friends walk up in their hero costumes. As Lillian walks up Jason blushes a little realizing she's in a skin-tight black-gray bodysuit that has a large deep hood that connects to a trench coat with numerous pockets inside and out. Looking over at George he has hooded jacket and semi-tight pants with what looks like an empty quiver on his back. "Nice costumes guys." Jason says.
"Yours is pretty nice too man." George says looking at Jason. Jason's costume is much like his fathers was. Among the pros his father had a nickname. The demon. He was given this name due to the merciless way he took down his opponents. Jason decided to adopt the costume himself. So with his body covered in shadow he has a three foot long barbed tail and twelve inch horns. The rest is a moving and warping mass of shadow that appears to be cracked as light shines through connected portions. The face is covered in a plain mask of shadow with light penetrating that as well.
