Chapter 57 - They Taste Bad

Taking a turn into an alleyway, the feeling of being inspected still remains. There is either a good sized group tailing me or who it was the first did it hasn't closed my status, not that there's much to see. Soon enough within the narrow alleyway, the robed figures stand in my way and a quick glance behind me is another set of robed figures. Although others may find it difficult to see at this time of night, especially in a naturally dark alleyway like this, it is clear as day for me. The design of the robes these people are wearing is the same as the one that Elf with the rats had.

But really, what is the point of just standing menacingly in my path. Just do something, whenever I used to ambush people I let them approach my position before going all stabby on them. These guys have no idea how it's supposed to work. I may not have been a contract killer, but I was a damn effective serial and spree killer, I know how this is supposed to work and it's not this. Are these guys sick in the head?

Finally making their move, the six people surrounding me, do some chant and cast several different types of magic at me, most of which are elemental attacks. Fire Balls, Ice Bullets, Stone Spikes, Water Bullets, and a few non-elemental attacks make contact with me as I chose not to dodge or block them, simply letting them hit and allow my Absorptions to heal me. Not only do I take almost no damage after the healing is done, but it also gives the illusion of me being far more resistant to their attacks than I really am. The attacks that I wasn't able to absorb actually did a decent chunk, in total they did a little over 1,000 damage. Of course, in the end, I effectively only took around 200 damage after the absorption healed me. Since they had there fun looking me over, why don't I return the favour and find the best way to deal with them.

Race: Elf

STR: 2,448

VIT: 1,632

DEX: 3,128

INT: 2,924

MND: 3,536

There are some variations of one or two levels in either direction, but they don't really pose too much of a threat. Since they have pretty good magic resistance I should probably look to get up close and brawl it out. It's been a long time since I had a true fistfight, I should enjoy this while I can.

My initial trap worked as some are drawing out bows and others unsheath a short sword, all of them are under the impression that magic won't work on me, opting to use cold weapons instead. Four of my assailants stand back to shoot from range while the other two run and close the distance. Positioning myself right in the middle of the path of the two running at me so as to make it a little more difficult for the archers a little more when aiming at me.

I use the Fire Enchant magic on my arms and legs, causing both to be covered in flames. Using Air Manipulation, Begin to run forward towards one of the Elves and briefly mess with the air composition, causing an explosion near my feet to propel me forward. Using the extra speed from the explosion, the gap between us is quickly closed as my flame clad fist makes contact with the Elf's face. Normally with the heavy impact from the explosion propelled fist would send him flying through the air, but I make sure to grab hold of him with my tail, letting my toxic scales do some work before using him as a platform to jump from and repeating the explosive leg work, sending me flying towards the other Elf who had been running at me. But I keep hold of the previous Elf with my tail, and as I near the other Elf I throw the first one at him. While the two don't collide for a best case scenario, the time he took to dodge gives me the opening I need.

As I sweep down to trip the other Elf up with my tail, four arrows get shot at me, two from ahead and two from behind. Being so focused on the two melee Elves, I had nearly forgotten about the other four archers, giving me hardly leeway to dodge in the narrow alley. The only real options being up or down, having already be lowered before they attacked, I halt my previous idea and jump to dodge. I managed to dodge one the shots, but the other three still hit, each for 600 for a total of 1,800 damage from just three arrows.

Considering my total health is just over 6,000, coupled with the passive healing from Air Absorption, that damage isn't too problematic. But If I ignore them any longer I'll be in danger since the amount I passively heal from my Air Absorption can't even be compared to the others in terms of speed and efficiency.

Before I can even decide on a course of action, another volley gets shot but this time I can clearly see it coming. I use my Wind Wall with a Water Wall behind it and an Ice Wall behind that, giving me three defensive walls. And sure enough, while the arrows had enough penetrating power behind them to fly through the Wind Wall, it doesn'T mean it was unaffected and passing through the water wall made the arrows even more power, causing them to simply bounce off the Ice Wall.

I don't sit still after this and in retaliation, I dispel the walls and use my Acid Beam on two of the archers. One of them got away, but only by using his comrade as a shield, forcing him to take the full brunt. He cries out in agony as the Acid melts right through his clothes and begin to reveal flesh and bone before its effect fades away. But opting not to spare him, I shoot out another Acid Beam, causing his cries of pain to continue.

The other three archers didn't remain idle during this time, but instead of attacking me, they ran away. But before the two Elves who tried to run me down have their chance to escape, I block the exit with an Ice Wall. Dispelling my Fire Enchant, I use Ice Enchant, coving my arms and legs in a layer of ice as I proceed to beat down the two remain Elves until they die.

"You have slain three Level 23 Elves of the 'Elven Forest Guard' tier 4 class. You have gained 6,486 EXP."

Not bad, decently levelled humanoids really do give high amounts of experience. And I finally got some souls, although it was only three. Now then, guess I can cook the bodies. Using my Fire Breath I toast the bodies of the Elves before eating them, for the biomatter and to remove the evidence. If there was anything I used to be good at it was hiding bodies, and now it's even easier to do so, just eat them. Having gotten rid of the bodies and dispelling the walls, I make my way back to the hotel with an extra 210kg of biomatter with me. But I've got to say it, Elves taste pretty bad.
