Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

The cross-fire had suddenly come to a halt. Vince looked up behind the table and saw that all the Guardsmen laid, motionless, and that Josh was still standing, his guns steaming after firing many shots.

"Nice one", commented David.

"No problem", replied Josh, before he fired another shot to the head of a Guardsman and lowered his weapon. Vince felt relieved for once today, having felt fortunate he had survived the encounter. "We should probably get going. Maybe try to find the others or contact the outside if we can."

"I think we found our solution, you'd be pleased to hear", David kneeled down and observed one of the now deactivated robotic soldiers. "Good news, Guardsmen have built-in transceivers, meaning that we are able to contact the outside if we manage to hack into its system. Bad news, it would alert all the other Guardsmen, and I'm suspecting that those terrorists are able to intercept our messages easily. And even worse, a lot of soldiers are probably gonna to come to us right now, after detecting that transmissions have been ... disrupted in this location."

"Where else is there to run? We can't take all of them at once!" Vince was, once again, put into a state of panic.

"I'm afraid we're likely out of options", Powell shrugged.

"You can't be serious?!", Josh sounded pretty pissed, especially after he managed to fight off at least ten Guardsmen simultaneously, just to be told that they were essentially screwed.

"I am. Those guys have managed to corner us and outmanoeuvre us at every turn. They've virtually thought of everything. Our only hope really is, if we can manage, to hold our ground in here long enough for me to be able to access the transceiver. Then we can see if any of the other scientists are able answer."

"Aren't you the head scientist though? Shouldn't you know how the Guardsmen work inside out?", Josh interrogated, still suspicious of David's possibly invalid statements. David realised that Josh was catching onto him; this was especially dangerous and could possibly ruin his masterplan.

"Of course not. But I do hold a high position." This was a lie. All of it was a lie. He was, most obviously, the head of all the scientist department and could solve this entire problem all on his own without their help. Of course there was a network of servers all the Guardsmen were connected to and knew how they worked "inside out". And, most of all, of course he could end this whole operation in an instance. But that wasn't what he aimed for. Instead, he was stalling for time, waiting for the rest of the Guardsmen to break show up and kill Josh and Vince, while he would still remain. In fact, he orchestrated this whole invasion, entrusting Cwa and Rishi with the responsibility of killing the higher ups, so that he himself could rise up the ranks to being the leader of the Order. However he was worried that the sibling relationship between Cwa and Tylo would prevent Cwa from killing the so-called "tyrant", but he was almost certain she'd be more than willing to complete the job. Afterwards, he will most likely "dispose" of the both of them.

David wanted Tylo to take all the blame for the missile strikes, the oppression and the downfall in society, all while controlling him from the background like a puppeteer, with the Tylo and the entirety of the Order being his puppets. He was, in a sense, using Tylo as a scapegoat. He would then, when he thought it was the right time, take Tylo "out of power" and replace him, all while coming into the position of Leader with a clean slate. That is when he would trigger the next stage of his plan and help advance the world into its next stage. That all will happen, assuming if everything goes according to plan.

"Alright", nodded Josh as he peered his head out of the door and looked at both sides of the corridor, to check if a horde Guardsmen were coming. David smiled. Within at least a few minutes, virtually everyone will be dead and he can finally install himself to his rightful position as essentially the supreme leader of the world. But this was for a good cause, a decision that was made for the better of humanity. He was the future, and he was determined to do anything, at all costs, to make sure that he was successful in making his "vision" a reality.

"Oh shi-", Josh cried out loud, "They're here!". Vince now panicking more than ever, knowing that this was most likely the end and embracing himself for a painful death.

It was over for them, David thought to himself. The marching of numerous Guardsmen brought such joy to his ears, he couldn't hide his cheeky grin, while the rest of the two were at peak suffering. This was it. It was finally happening. A new age for the Order was coming.

However, all the footsteps came to a sudden halt at once. Silence.

Vince was waiting in anticipation, all the while Josh was preparing with his guns pointing, ready to make his last stand. All of sudden, the Guardsmen, who were just outside the lab, all began firing at something in the corridors, but none of the three dared to look outside, just in case they get caught in the crossfire. David, if anything, was confused. Chaos ensued and the sounds of deafening collisions and lasers firing through the air further filled the lab with tension, with no one knowing what the hell going on outside.

However, one by one, the number of lasers fired began to decrease as it got quieter and quieter. The entire group of Guardsmen were gradually being destroyed by whatever, or whoever, was out there. Eventually, it singled to the sound of one gun firing at whatever was massacring the crowd of soldiers that were just about to arrive inside the lab, which was soon followed by loud, metallic thud (most likely made by a sounds of a dead Guardsman falling onto the floor).

Once again, there was quiet.

Josh, who hid behind the wall, took a careful look through the gap of the door, to see the outcome of the violent commotion. He could just about make out the shapes dismembered parts of Guardsmen, including a head which horrifically rolled across the floor, now lifeless. But he also made out a silhouette, slowly making its way to the lab, causing Josh to flinch back out of shock and pointed at the door, ready to blast the living daylight out of whatever monster was about to enter.

The gaps in between the sliding doors then began to heat up red, with a laser-like sound coming from the other side. The laser then began making its way down of the door, now creating a vertical red-hot line, in an attempt to unlock the door via force. The doors finally slid open, to reveal a single figure.

Josh was about to shoot, with his fingers on the verge of pressing the triggers, until he shortly recognised who it was and proceeded to drop his guns and fall on his knees, due to the feeling of an overwhelming sense of disbelief yet joyfulness. Vincent, seeing the who it was, finally took a sigh of relief. Today has been a rollercoaster for him. David stared in shock, a mixture of confusion and anger, but tried his best not to show it. The faint purple glow of a polytron, heavily equipped with shining armour while carrying a mutilated head of a Guardsmen. And he couldn't have arrived at a better time (and for David it was the worst time).

"Tylo...",David gritted his teeth. The name made him seethe whenever it came out of his mouth.

"Am I late?", Tylo rhetorically asked as he carelessly threw the head on the ground.
