The next interviewee, Rishi was in line and waiting. He wore a black coat with a black T-Shirt underneath. He was wearing cheap glasses, and it was the only thing that he could find. He grinned in confidence, not breaking a sweat. His grades were all top and he was sure that he would make a fine addition to The Order. He thought that the interview would just simply be wasting his time and that he knew he was going to pass. As he was called up, he walked at a normal pace, whereas other people would either walk too slow or too fast.
I'm going to get this job, he thought.
There he entered the room and was met eye contact with Travis. His robotic eye stared at him with a subtle menacing intent. Rishi and Travis go way back when they were young. Ten years ago, Rishi's family were killed by the Guardsmen on that day, but obviously he had to hide that anger until later on. His hate for Travis fueled inside like a furnace yet he managed to remain calm for the previous few years. But just seeing Travis's face made Rishi want to do what he described as "unspeakable".
Travis said no words, nor did his co-workers who just sat there pointlessly. It was after a few moments that Travis said a single syllable.
"No..." He stated uncaringly.
From there, Rishi felt as if his whole world turned upside down. His years of scheming and planning had been ruined. He tried to argue, but the interviewers wouldn't respond. In the end, Travis had to call the Guardsmen to drag him out. When he was thrown out the doors of the headquarters, he just sat down on a nearby bench. There was no point anymore. He would starve and die a lonely and painful death : he had no chance to progress and most of all, no chance to overthrow the person who was in everybody's nightmares.
But as he thought about this deeply, his phone rang in his pockets.
"Hello?", he questioned as he accepted the call.
"Hello Rishi...", a malicious and creepy sounding voice responded to Rishi. It sounded feminine yet sounded as if she smoked so often that she sounded like an old man with a higher-pitched voice. How did she know his name?
"Who is this?", he said in panicked as he was about to decline the call.
"A friend", the voice simply responded. Rishi was interested. "I can help you. I can help you acheive anything you want". This suddenly got Rishi suspicious, not knowing what she was talking about. "Come meet me at my DANK apartment", she continued, " and we can negotiate there...". The call ended suddenly. Rishi smiled : a spark of hope had returned.
