Wu Yun bangs his fists on the closed gates, but the solid wood won't budge.
Lan Tian joins him and shouts Wan Mi's name, but gets no answer. The wood is too thick for any sound to get through.
"I'm going to kill that mangy dog," Wu Yun says, scowling at the gates and envisioning all the ways he's going to make General Pei suffer.
Officer Er approaches him rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Ah, young masters...General Pei can be harsh, but he wouldn't harm your daughter."
Officer Yi is quick to nod in agreement.
Wu Yun doesn't trust their platitudes, but the reassuring hand Lan Tian wraps around his shoulder releases some of the tension from his muscles.
"We'll get her back. Qiao Xiaojian won't let anything bad happen to her," Lan Tian says, and tightens his fingers gently on Wu Yun's arm.
Wu Yun nods but he can't avoid blaming himself all the same for his own arrogance and short-sightedness.
