Wu Yun goes to fetch Shu Luan the next morning, and finds him oddly subdued. He's wearing the robes Jiang Pinwei arranged for them. Wu Yun's are a lively gold with delicate peony embroidering, while Shu Luan's are a steel grey with silver bamboo shoots embroidered over the hems.Β
He doesn't meet Wu Yun's eyes when he walks inside the room.Β
Wu Yun knows it's his fault. That what he told him yesterday has probably left him troubled. He can't imagine anyone would be please to know the body they're inhabiting isn't wholly their own.
At least Wu Yun hopes not, he has to cling to Xue Zhuan's words, and believe that Lan Tian is still there.
"It's time to go, the party will start soon, apparently it lasts all day," Wu Yun says, switching his weight from one foot to another, to try and dispel the awkwardness building around them like fog.
Shu Luan nods, and remains silent.
