Chapter 9 - 09. Their mind

Jenny stood in front of a huge man in ancient clothes, with two big swords and blinked. "Oh. Wow."

Literally, that was the only thing that she could say. He curiously looked at the woman in tight clothes and furrowed his eyebrows. "Why do you not wear proper clothes?"

Jenny just shrugged and then pointed behind at the street. "It's faster to escape than with a dress. In normal time, I'd wear normal clothes."

He saw the small window she flew through and nodded. "Indeed, in a dress that would be impossible. But what are you escaping from?"

''Soulless demons that eat human flesh and turn them into the same demons. And some humans as well...'' Jenny chuckled at his curious eyes.

''What are you talking about?'' He stepped next to the window and saw the whole crowd of zombies walking on the streets. His eyes became dark and he asked Jenny. ''Could you tell me what is really going on?''

Jenny was about to answer when another female figure appeared in front of him and spoke to her, completely ignoring him.

"Mom, are you OK?"

"Child, look what I found. Not a vampire, but a cute guy. I want him to come with us." She suddenly went to him and started pushing his back with all her power, but couldn't move him for a millimetre.

He curiously looked at Anne and pointed at his back. "What is this woman trying to do?'

Anne already held her head as she knew her mom well. She could see the stubborn expression and slightly rubbed her temple.

" She will not stop until you come with us, as our guest, please." Sometimes her mom would do irrational things and even if she knew it was wrong, she'll still do it.

The man was stunned. He didn't expect this situation at all. He slowly let the woman push him towards the door and then grab his sleeve. With questions written all over his face, he looked at the other woman and saw her sighing.

He was curious. He was not afraid of anything, as he went to hell and back. So he let the two lead him to trough the underground passages and then staircases towards their own home.

Anne stared at his dirty clothes with scrutinized expression and pointed at the bath. "Go take a shower, I'll bring you some clothes."

Jenny rose her eyebrows at her words but didn't comment a thing. As he went inside and saw the room he just turned around and stared at Anne.

"How do you use it?" His face looked completely honest as he asked that.

Jenny came to his help. She pulled Anne to the side and whispered. "It seems he hit his head. Maybe he has forgotten everything. Don't be harsh on him. Just slowly explain as I prepare food..."

With a swift move, she pushed Anne straight towards the man and rushed to the kitchen, or better said escaped.

Anne stared at him and just took off her hat, eyeglasses and facemask. With a roll of her eyes, she started explaining to the flabbergasted man.

"This is hot and this is cold water. You have to adjust the temperature yourself. This is the soap for your body and this is a shampoo for your hair. These are towels you should use to dry yourself and I'll be right back and bring you some clean clothes."

Then she just left him alone. She is not a freaking babysitter. Remembering that her father left some sportswear in the guest room when he visited them, she got it and his underwear as well.

Hearing water running she knocked on the door. "I will leave the clothes right here. Take them..." She wanted to add 'after you are done', but the door opened up and she saw now a man, wet like a mouse, standing completely naked in front of her while clumsily holding a towel around his waist.

He avoided her eyes, grabbed the stuff from her hands and just closed the doors quickly again, leaving her frozen stiff. What was that? But the body...

With unnatural expression, she went to the kitchen and rubbed her temples again while Jenny snickered. Anne suddenly had a strange thought and gave her a long stare.

"Mom... you and your ideas. Why the hell did we bring this strange man to our home? Please, explain." Anne could see that her mother was excited and that was never a good sign.

"Out of goodness of my heart. What else?" Jenny avoided her question and eyes, while busily making a small mountain of food.

"Goodness of your heart?" Even if she knew that her mom was a good person, she was not that crazy to just bring some strange man into their home.

"Uhm. Why? I might not be the best person in the world, but I'm not that bad to leave the poor man out there, you know?" Jenny defended herself with a pout as she placed plates on the table.

"Don't worry, if she doesn't believe you, I do." A deep voice came behind Anne's back and a man with wet hair and yellow sport suit came out of the bathroom.

Looking like a wet white rat... Anne had such a thought as she looked at him. With a chuckle, she just turned her head towards her mother and got stunned by her big smile as she stared at her. What is that woman thinking again?

But the man just bowed politely towards Jenny. "Milady is looking now more proper, as it seems you were right, the warrior gear from before makes more sense while fighting those demons."

Jenny bowed back and mischievously winked at Anne as she seriously answered. "In a world seeded with demons, even a lady has to become a lady warrior to survive such a big cruel world."

He rose his eyebrow and chuckled. "It seems I was mistaken. Milady is nor lady nor warrior."

Jenny leaned at the kitchen counter and smiled. "Then what am I?"

"Cook." He just pointed at the table filled with food and started laughing. Jenny chimed in while Anne just shook her head.

Lord, have mercy. What kind of words are these... what is actually in their heads?
