"SARI!" a frantic yet familiar high pitched voice screamed. I looked over my shoulder and sighed rolling my eyes at the monumental chaos I saw behind me. "Not now Krista, please." I huffed, as I adjusted the straps of my bookbag slouched over my shoulder. My shoulders growing weaker by the minute. "Can we just walk home in peace for once?" I glared. "Sari...please." The flustered girl gazed up at me with emerald green puppy dog eyes, shone vibrant against her milk chocolate skin.
"Krista. You know how much I hate being seen with you in public, do you seriously expect me to carry you home for the third time this week?!" I huffed. "I swear on my life this is the LAST time I'm doing this. You've been cancer-free for two years now, I refuse to treat you like a sick puppy any longer than I have to!" I quickly turned and hobbled over to her" Clearly uncomfortable with the gaggle of students still lingering about the schoolyard, I hesitantly turned so my back was facing my absolute pain of a sister. I crouched to assist with her climb up, but just before she could steady herself I sped off down the tarmac. I heard a yelp from Krista, then promptly grinned 'That's what she gets for making me her pack mule, yet again!'

Just as we walked through the front door, a cheerful voice swept through the air "Girls, you're home! How was your first week back at school?" I sluggishly walked over to my mum and gave her a peck on the cheek, too worn out to give her a real response I let out a strained groan. My mother (being the understanding person she is) backed off, turning her attention to a surprisingly energetic Krista. "Love, did you have a good day? Kids haven't been causing trouble, have they? If you need me to get a teacher to keep an eye on..."
My mind wandered off as I bound up the stairs to my room. 'Finally. One week down, only a few hundred more to go!' I slumped into my desk chair spinning around a few times before I got up to put on my favourite Spotify playlist. The next thing I can recall was waking up to my sister screaming at her game console Saturday morning.
'I must've fallen asleep after laying in bed listening to my music...' I was feeling groggy and didn't plan on delving further into the mystery that was last night after all this isn't the first time I've passed out from exhaustion. I waddled over to the bathroom I shared with my older brother Marcae, who was likely goofing off with friends somewhere downtown. 'Marc is only two years older than me, yet mum lets him stay out with friends all night?' I sigh spitting excess toothpaste into the sink, before rinsing it down the drain. "Such bullshit," I mutter to myself, turning out the lights and heading back to my room to get dressed.
Knowing full well that I was prepared as I was going to get, I sped downstairs and made myself a bacon and spinach omelette to go. After leaving a note to remind my mom of my planned excursion, I was off. Another day had begun, yet somehow this one felt different.
