Chereads / The Eclipse House Of Baptiste / Chapter 14 - Jack The Reaper

Chapter 14 - Jack The Reaper

A black robbed figure hovered in the sky. A large hood rested over his head casting a shadow over his face, keeping it hidden from those strong willed enough to even dare look directly at him.

He was tall. 6'7 with black, jewelled gloves covered his boney hands.

His robes soundlessly danced in the wind as he floated in the air searching for his next victim.

He was whistling a happy tune but the beasts that heard it felt a wave of fear wash over them.

When he was "born" he had the chance to speak to his glorious creator.

"His aura was so overbearing! Truly a god worthy of being called my master!" Jack spoke with a glee that wasn't suited for his dark aura and usually calm, deep voice.

Of all those who were gathered under the banner of House Baptiste, Jack had been the only one to declare Emyrs a god.

He obviously did not say that in front of Emyrs. He knew his creator might refuse the title.

Yet in Jack's eyes Emyrs was a being who created life as easily as he could take it.

Powerful immortals called revered and called Him "Father". One word, laced with His mana and intent, one truly spelled word from His mouth could kill great beasts with ease.

What was this if not a supreme existence?

Then, as if all that was not enough, He created Jack. His loyal Reaper of souls.

Jack was the incarnation of True Death that Emyrs envisioned using the stories of the Grim Reaper from earth.

Jack summoned his weapon. A long obsidian scythe with a long crimson blade. He hugged it closely.

This weapon was made specially for him by his Father. It had the ability to reap and store souls in its blade while Jack had an innate control over shadows.

"Hmmmm, where to go next?" Jack wondered. A herd of demonic deer type monsters caught his eye. A creepy smile appeared on his face as he flew down and disappeared into the shadows.

Jack stood in a forest surrounded by corpses of demon dear. He had a perverse smile on his face.

'I do my job well.' Jack thought.

Jack was not a senseless killer. He did not kill beasts into extinction but chose carefully which herds to kill and those to leave alone but the ones he chose...well...that was the end for them.

Jack did not believe in survivors and only his glorious divine master could keep Jack's bloodlust in check.

Jack began whistling again. His song filled that lifeless part of the forest.

He then stepped back into the shadows and a new silence came to the forest. A silence that made lesser beasts too afraid to invade the free territory.

Emyrs sat in the cave deep in meditation, drenched in sweat.

He could sense Jack's activity and smiled but another part of him felt that his Reaper was a bit too good at his job.

Emyrs had developed new skills after killing the vampire bat and they were very compatible with his body and game skills.

These were a few of the ones he was proud of.

He gave Jack a few degraded abilities related to shadows, stealth, disease and souls.

In Emyrs' eyes, Jack would be one of his most useful subordinates in future.

He had refused a Prince of Abaddon title and only asked to earn a title through his service to Emyrs. He said he did not deserve a title yet.

He would slaughter Emyrs' enemies and earn the right to be entitled by Emyrs.

Emyrs was not so naive as to think that he would live his immortal life in peace.

This unamed world had threats around every corner, under every tree, in deep waters and these were only the dangers he was aware of!

The real dangers were the ones he did not know about. Those that grew stronger and reigned supreme, undisputed and unabated.

King ranked beasts were so numerous that they could not be the supreme existence on the planet.

One day he may meet an existence that was a true King, even an Emperor or God level! He had to be strong enough to never have to use [Despot Supremacy].

This world was new. It was brimming with magic and power. If this universe was a glass, it would be overflowing. Even the lakes' silver waters were a result of magic saturation.

There were underground rivers in the cave. The bats here had been absorbing the radiation from these rivers, becoming stronger.

In a few years, even the subordinates of the King he fought would have been able to make Emyrs retreat.

This was troubling in Emyrs' opinion.

If he wanted to keep his dominance and freedom, he needed to be strong, an absolute existence and have strong subordinates.

There were entire continents that he had not explored.

Places where there were monsters that were growing uninhibited by the Vampire Lord.

The situation was made worse by the fact that when Emyrs fought too hard and got wounded, he would fall into long periods of sleep when his body was too exhausted to restore his vitality and mana.

This was why he was meditating.

Enoch had told him that his body also absorbed the magic in this world but a faster way to do this was to mediate and focus only on absorbing and refining more of the magic he was absorbing.

He would grow stronger. He would not level up this way but he would get stronger and better with his magic and efficiency. His stats were increasing. He could feel it.

He began to pace himself with his grinding. He would give himself rest, not only when necessary but also whenever possible.

He avoided strong enemies, yes but there may be times when strong enemies chose not to avoid him.

He had the aura of a ruler and in this world, Kings fought not just for dominance but to test themselves.

Emyrs suddenly opened his eyes and turned to his side. He began throwing up violently. Black blood and goo came out uncontrollably and in huge amounts.

When it finally stopped. Emyrs stood up and stumbled around like an intoxicated idiot. He quickly tried to prop himself against the cave walls.

He pressed his hand onto the wall and a cracking sound drew his attention.

His fingers had sunk into the stone and cracks had developed around his hand.

"What the fuck?" Emyrs said out loud.

The stone itself had also been saturated by magic.

Although Emyrs could break it before, he should not have been able to do it so easily.

Emyrs guided himself to a river and bathed. When he was done, he walked out of the cave.

The sun was coming up.

He was about to check his stats when something caught his eye. It was flying in circles a great distance away.

"No way." Emyrs said smiling.

He summoned his wings.

'Did these things grow?' He wondered.

Ignoring it, he flew toward the creature. Thinking that this was too great of an opportunity to miss.
