Chapter 1 - The Beginning

A young man woke up in the midst of a great ruin submerged in layers of snow. He looked around and saw the decrepit ruins of a once ancient kingdom. The walls with murals depicted a great people conquering and warring the world. Beings of such terror was made of stone and hung over him like horrid demons judging his every move.

"where the hell am I?"

The young man had pure white hair and deep blue eyes, his body was thin and frail, and he was only wearing rags. He looked up into the sky through the broken celling and saw a dark grey sky covered with thunderous clouds and an uncaring sun which shone no more.

The young man stood up from the cold ground and looked around further. He gently caressed the walls which seemed to almost turn to dust with his mere touch. The broken ruin he was in was empty and covered in snow, The cold biting into his flesh and devoured his feet with every step he took.

He was shivering in the dark cold, but found no light, nor any fire. He slowly left the ruin and came upon a grand city conquered by time and nature. It was abandoned.

The young man walked down the cold steps of the ruin he found himself in. Down into the heart of the city. Everywhere he looked there was only him, he found nothing else alive, nothing to confide in or to calm his terror.

He walked down the empty street, until he stumbled on something, something covered in the heavy snow. He looked back and saw his stumbling had unveiled a corpse from long ago. He fell back scarred and frightened crawling back away from the corpse.

He backed away into a wall and finally stopped. he was breathing heavy and the fear was beginning to subside. Curiosity took over instead. He etched ever closer to the corpse to get a better look. the corpse was covered in old armor. The helmet with engravings of a language he did not recognize had a small slit for the eyes and mouth. He slowly took off the helmet and saw the skull of a skeleton. He dragged the rest of the body out of the snow to reveal the rest of the armor. A dark green scarf with the same golden inscription on it. A breastplate and underneath dark green gambeson armor. Shoulder guards and leather gauntlets. His shoulders and back was protected by a thick wolf hide that protected from the cold and acted as a short cape and coat. Thick wool pants with leather boots. Kneeling besides the skeleton he was swiftly reminded of the cold.

"I am sorry"

The cold was going to claim his life if he did not do anything to combat it, so he took off the armor on the skeleton and wore it himself. The smell was excruciating, but it was better than the cold.

The armor was freezing and wet, but it provided at least better protection from the cold then the thin rags. He looked back at the now naked skeleton and then buried it under the snow. He moved on through the streets finding no other corpses on the way. He did not know where to go, only hoping he would find something to escape the cold. Most of the buildings was ruins and the others had their doors locked and no way in.

He waded through the snow with every breath of air he took in was like needles being stabbed into his lungs. His feet and hands begin to feel numb, he felt weak the further he traveled, and he was shivering to his bones. His sight became blurry and his feet dragged on. The weakness and cold finally claimed him and fell over.

"is this it?"

His voice was weak and frail, his eyes felt incredible heavy.

´just a little rest`

And the snow and cold claimed him, just like it had claimed this city. The last thing he saw before losing conscience was a shadow over him.

The young man woke up finding himself inside what appeared to be an old intact cathedral. The walls was dreary, and the celling looked like it would collapse any minute, but it was shelter from the cold and darkness outside. Infront of him was a small fire going defiantly against the cold. He found no one else inside the cathedral but himself and the stone statues.

"How did I get here"

In the epicenter of the cathedral was a single large statue untouched by time. He looked up to it and saw and angel thrusting a spear into a demons back. The angel was beautiful beyond belief and the demon nightmarish.

You could see the wounds on both of them, the angel haven broken a wing and the demon haven broken a horn. The two bitter enemies fought long and hard and now the angel was finally slaying the demon.

The entire cathedral was filled with depictions of angels and demons fighting. The walls was covered in murals with great battles. On the celling was a decrepit painting, of what the young man assumed to be some kind of court for the angels.

He took time to inspect the surroundings and found only a single bastard sword at the end of the cathedral. It was an ancient and rusty blade, but it was still intact.

´who the hells knows what is out there, it is better to be safe than sorry`

The young man took the blade and went back to the fire to warm himself.

"what the hell is going on here. Where am I… who am I"

His voice was weak and was filled with frustration and sadness. He huddled closer to the fire needing the warmth it provided. And there he feel asleep in the cathedral.
