The narrow damp web covered corridors went on for miles. The air stale and filled with dust. He held the lantern high and it lighted up his path. He walked carefully down the narrow steps. He could see his own breath, despite it being inside the cold was still there.
He walked further down into the deep, the narrow stairways worming its way deeper and deeper. The stairway finally ended, and he arrived at a large dark room. Inside the room rows upon rows of chained up skeletons. The walls and floor was covered in stains of blood.
Arthur gripped his sword harder walking across the room being watchful of the skeletons. Lucky for him nothing happened. he crossed the room and arrived an old wooden door. He pushed the door open. The sound of creaking reverberated throughout the narrow corridors.
"great more stairs"
He ventured deeper into the abyss, deeper into the unknown. He arrived at a long and wide dark hallway. The place was filled with half broken pillars and dusty weapon and shields hanging on the wall. The sound of metal scraping against the floor resounded throughout the hallway. Arthur stopped and held the lantern high. The sound was coming closer and closer, he could feel the scraping in the floor. the sound was piercing.
A shadowy form came out of the darkness. Its footstep sounded hard and metallic. Arthur gripped his sword and moved forward. The light revealed a hooded figure. Dark robes filled with holes and shredded to pieces. It held in its boney white hands a wooden staff.
It limped closer and closer towards Arthur. It was dragging a flail in one hand was using the other to support itself.
Arthur settled his breath and concentrated on the figure. The figure raised its head. Dark red eyes looked directly at Arthur.
Arthur got a glimpse under the hood of the creature. A half rotten face with sickly white skin and bits of flesh falling off. It raised its staff and a dark orb appeared on top of it. It smashed its staff on the ground and the dark orb exploded forward.
Arthur threw himself to the side narrowly avoiding the dark orb. He hurriedly crawled to a pillar and looked back, it had hit the wall, a large part of the wall had been blown to pieces.
´don't want to be hit by that. got to get in close`
He sprinted out from cover and used the pillars to protect himself from further orbs. The monster swung his staff and a hundred more orbs was created and sent them off. Dust and debris flew around the hallway making it hard to see anything. Arthur burst out from behind a pillar and charged right at the monster. Before it could raise its flail in protection Arthur had already pierced its heart with the sword.
There was moment of silence as the two stared at each other. It raised its flail and smashed it into Arthur. He was thrown to the ground. He lost the lantern and it was thrown to the wall. It became much darker inside and he could barely see. The monster grabbed the sword and pulled it out from its own chest. it threw the sword to the ground and raised its staff once more. A dark whip came from the tip.
It smashed it towards Arthur. He rolled away ignoring the pain and his own body whishes to rest. It smashed into the ground, dust and debris flew up and covered his escape. He ran behind a pillar and sneaked a peak at the monster.
It was looking around for him. He quietly bent down and picked up a rock from the ground and stood up. he threw it across the room. the monster rushed towards the sound and fired off a couple of dark orbs and smashed its whip into a pillar.
Arthur rushed to the wall and picked up a mace and shield. He hid behind the pillar again. the monster looked around, searching for Arthur. I walked around the hallway, weaving through the pillars.
Arthur waited for his chance, holding his breath as the monster came closer. He waited for the right moment to strike. The monster walked slowly through the hallway coming closer and closer. It was right infront of the pillar Arthur was behind. It turned away from Arthur. He did not waste his chance. He burst out from the pillar and smashed the mace into the skull of the monster. A crack reverberated throughout the hallway. It flung around and swung its flail. Arthur raised his shield and blocked the blow and once more delivered a devastating strike with his mace to the skull of the monster.
Bits of flesh and bones flew. Before it could use its flail once more Arthur attacked again with the mace and embedded it into the skull of the monster, but also breaking the handle while doing so.
The monster fell over dropping its weapons. Arthur dropped down tired and scarred, the adrenaline wearing off.
"what the fuck is these things"
He had so many questions and so few answers. He stood up tired but not defeated. He went to the wall and picked up another mace and turned towards the door leading deeper into the dungeon.
"this is crazy I don't even know what I am looking for. god knows how many more enemies are behind that door"
He looked at the door and sighed.
"There is no other way. If I want to survive I have to keep moving. No point in stopping now, unless I want to end up like the others"
He walked to the door and opened it revealing another set of stairs.
"great"
