"What's the point?" That's the question. A thousand questions flow like a river inside Ash. Wide eyed as he fought off the urge to sleep. Sleep brought the nightmares. Though his own thoughts terrified him just as much, maybe even more. Chewing on his lip blood began to seep into his mouth. The metallic taste carrys him down new paths of thought. Bloody paths full of pain and suffering. One thought of cutting his own wrists again. This wasn't the first time. Slowly his hand reached beneath his mattress. pulling out a small pocket knife. Flipping it open he studied the odd colored blade. Pressing it firmly against his wrist he pulled it slowly across the skin. Bathing in the pain it brought forth. Though not particularly deep blood leaked out. It clotted along the edges of the broken skin. His arm stung. Resting the blade a few inches higher than the previous cut. Temptation to make another cut nearly drove him to do it. But instead he hid the blade back in the handle and slipped it back under the mattress. Staring back down at the cut blood leaked out. Grabbing some bandages he carefully wrapped his arm. Laying back he followed the cracks in the ceiling. parts of the ceiling were darker than others from water staining it. The whole room seemed to be falling apart. Ashes world was failing apart ever sense his mother died. Tucked into his stomach Ash just tried to will away the pain of his hunger. His dad just hit him and locked him in his room without food or water. Just him an old mattress and a knife. The knife was his favorite. Almost like a child with his favorite toy he hid it so others wouldn't find it. Not that anyone would care enough to take it. standing up he walked over to the window sill. Staring out at the night sky. Through the thick pine trees he could see moon light shining down and stars twinkling. The pines cast long shadows down on the small shed. all that was in the room is a mattress and The knife hidden under the matress three shirts and two pares of pants were the only clothes in sight. The window was the only source of light. Walking back to his matress he laid down and shivered in the darkness. Curling up into a tights ball. His dad took all of the blanket. Even the thin ones that provide no warmth. Ash of course new where they all were. Locked away in a chest at the main house. Fear gripped Ash whenever the main house came to mind. The main house had three levels plus a basement. The first floor had the kitchen and the cafeteria. Along with bathrooms and a meeting room. The uperstairs had bedrooms that were used for storage and his father's room. Then the third floor Ash didn't know what was up there. Ash never wanted to know either. Strange sounds came down from up there. A bright ray of light hit Ashs sleep waking him from his shallow rest. Sitting up Ash grabbed a shirt and a pair of pants. Standing up he stretched his arms in the air yawning. Walking over to the door he hesitated. Feeling the cold brass nob under his hand. Slowly turning it he stepped out shoeless onto the soft, cool grass. Dew drops still clinging to the blades. The sun had just begun to rise. Ash could only see the trees in shades of black. Stretching his arms in the air he yawned one more time before walking across the grass to the main house. Looking up it loomed before him tall and forbidding. The top of the roof had the first rays of light on it. The rest still was a dark and seemed to be watching. That thought terrified Ash.
