Chapter 4 - Options

After defeating the giant maggot I noticed that after my acid puke reached level 5 there are new options available.

I check what they are.

[Acid Vomit: A stronger version of Acid Puke]

[Acid Spit: A longer range Acid Puke]

So I have two options. Either increase range or power of my acid puke attack.

It is harder to see things further away so for now acid spit is useless and I should go for acid vomit.

But in the future if I am able to see and not just sense vibrations Acid Spit can be really useful.

I also would have a range advantage against other maggots with Acid Spit.

But its not like Acid Vomit would be useless because it would buff my acid puke attack which makes it so that I can kill opponents easier.

And I don't know what kinds of strong enemies I might encounter so I may not even be able to touch them with my Acid Spit.

Neither are extremely useful but the one that seems better for now is acid vomit.

I choose the option: Acid Vomit.

[Acid Spit Lv 5 has changed into Acid Vomit Lv 5]

So abilities don't level down when I select a new option.

That's good to know.

Anyway, for now I have one goal.

Conquer the nest of maggots!

I'm still on fire but whenever I level up I regain my HP.

I don't think enough time has passed for me to lose HP yet so I better go hunting for some maggots.

I hear a maggot get close to me.

I have a full stomach from that large maggot and there are still some leftovers. That means its Acid Vomit Time!

I vomit acid all over the maggot.

[Defeated Maggot Lv 4]

[Gained 4 EXP]

I killed it instantly.

I am truly a force to be reckoned with!

For maggots.

And nothing else.

Throwing up is still an unpleasant feeling.

I like it.

Fear the power of my acid vomit foolish maggots. This area belongs to me! Mwahahahahahaha!

Well now I have an empty stomach. So its time to eat.

The maggot I killed disintegrated from the vomit so I need to find some new prey.

I squirm around a little. A lot of maggots have been killed from me or other maggots so only the strong are left.

My opponents are no longer small fry it seems.

I hear a buzzing noise.

Could it be?

Is it a fly?

It's heading straight towards me so I better be cautious. I also can't use my strongest attack the Acid Vomit.

This aerial fiend dares to attack me in such an obvious fashion. It is so loud anyone can hear it even if you don't have ears! (like me)

I squirm away from where it is headed and follow the trace of the buzzing to attack it from the side. My nibble is weak but if I aim for the wings it should be enough to ground it.

What a fool to attack me up close.

This is my domain!

I feel footsteps on the ground close to me.

I also don't hear the loud buzzing anymore.

Which means the thing in my mouth is a part of the fly's wing.

My attack was successful but its not over yet.

I hear a very familiar noise. The noise of acid. I squirm towards the footsteps but away from the acid that must be coming from its mouth.

I then bite out and I seem to hit something.

[Nibble has reached level 4]

I nibble the disgusting flesh of the fly and then I feel acid on my back.

It burns!

So thats what my enemies feel.

Although I was already burning from the heat of the surrounding air this is a different kind of burning.

Thank god it didn't hit my maggot vitals though.

It seems I have enough in my stomach to launch acid. But I am hungry and I want food!

When I throw up I waste food. This is common sense.

So it is better to digest some of the food in order to obtain nutrients.

This isn't a long process compared to a demon's but it still takes a little bit of time. I nibble more and more and it seems like the fly preemptively used its trump card so it is a sitting duck.

If things get difficult I would use my Acid Vomit but when the fly is just asking to be eaten I don't need to waste food.

I nibble more until I hear the voice that does not belong to the God I know of.

[Nibble has reached Lv 5]

[New options available]

The fly can only struggle so I can take a look at the new options.

But its too much of a risk to let someone steal my prey.

So I finish it off with my lips.

[Defeated Fly Lv 2]

[Gained 21 EXP]

[Maggot has reached Lv 5]

[HP and MP fully restored]

[Max HP has increased to 10]

[Strength has increased to 7]

[Armor has increased to 4]

[New options available]

I leveled up less then last time despite gaining more EXP. Looks like that confirms my theory about it getting harder to level up as you gain levels.

Anyway, its good that I have new options available for my species. But first I should check out my nibble.

[Leech: Steals HP from the opponent]

[Bite: A stronger form of Nibble]

Again I have two options. Either grow stronger or gain health from attacks. This answer is obvious. Why wouldn't I choose Leech?

It may do less damage but restoring HP is HUUUGE.

I choose the option: Leech.

[Nibble Lv 5 has changed into Leech Lv 5]

Ok I would like to try that out but first I need to check my new options for my species. I now have 4 skill points but they seem useless for the time being. I thought they might help with the new options for nibble and acid puke but it seems I was wrong. What can they be used for?

Ignoring that I check out the new options for my species.

[Fly: The adult form of a maggot. Is able to fly and give birth to maggots.]

[Mega Maggot: A large maggot that does not feel pain from low damage physical attacks]

[Ashen Maggot: A maggot with armor made of ash surrounding it in order to resist hot climates]

Immediately I get rid of the option Mega Maggot. Not feeling pain would give me a great disadvantage. That was the reason why I was able to defeat my opposing Mega Maggot.

A fly would be useful because it grants me flight and eyes. Being able to see is useful. But I can sense vibrations just fine without eyes so my next option is the ashen maggot. Environmental resistence is huge. I am guessing I got this option for living in a hot climate. I might be able to get rid of the status effect: burning with this.

So I go right ahead and select Ashen Maggot.

[Maggot Lv 5 has changed into Ashen Maggot Lv 1]
