Chereads / The Four Ladies of Doldam Street / Chapter 5 - <Chapter Four>

Chapter 5 - <Chapter Four>

"Miss the dinner is set." Maria said to Byun Ye Ji.

"I'll be there."

Maria just nodded and left the room. Everyone in the mansion was happy that their young miss was finally opening up.

The Byun couples were known for their fair treatments to the servants of the mansion and it was no lie that they treated everyone well.

Even Ye Ji never treated them bad ever, she used honorific to every single worker there. The workers there got more respect there than their own homes.

Ye Ji looked herself at mirror and softly slapped herself on both of her cheeks.

"I can do it! I will go there have a meal and a decent conversation. Then I will tell them what is my plan and try my best not to faint!" she said to herself looking at the mirror.

She was sweating like a pig. She took deep breathes and then walked out of her room.

Her room was in the farthest corner of the mansion. First it used to be right beside her parents room in the second floor but then she shifted her room to the fourth floor right beside the library.

As she walked downstairs, every memory of her last came back. She hadn't used the stairs for 2 years now.

Her trauma had gotten worse, so much worse that she would never come down out of her room or library, she wouldn't even come down.

'Was this painting always there?'

She looked at the gaint painting of her parents and her hung in the wall of the first floor.

It was a family portrait but Ye Ji in that portrait looked much younger, like as if she was 12 or 13.

She stopped right in front of the closed door of the dining room. She took deep breathes.

'I can do this!'

She was about to open the door but just then a memory flashed through her mind. She paused reaching for the door knob.

"I...I....I can do it." she mummered and opened the door.

As soon as Ye Ji opened the door of the room, she saw the huge dining table filled with all sorts of edible food.

Byun Tae Ji, her father was seated on the head of the table while Byun Ye Min seated on the right hand hand of Tae Ji.

Both of them looked at the door to see their daughter standing there. Both their eyes filled with tears.

Never did they think that this day would come. Their daughter was in front of them.

"Don't cry, you need to be strong." Tae Ji whispered in his wife's ears. She looked and him and smiled.

"Ye Ji!" The couple called out their daughters name in unison.

Ye Ji looked up to her parents but then looked around at the number of servants present there.

She looked down on the floor nervously and started sweating.

Byun Tae Ji saw his daughter getting tensed up.

"All of you may leave except Maria." he ordered.

Soon everyone left the room and there was only the Byun family and Maria left.

The three of them nervously looked at Ye Ji who was deciding which seat she should sit on.

Plates were set on each seat so that Ye Ji would feel comfortable.

She looked around and her her parents cutely staring at her.

'I should sit next to dad.'

She went and sat down on the left hand side of Byun Tae Ji and facing Byun Ye Min.

"Score!" Maria whispered but it was loud enough for them to hear.

"So....how are you?" Ye Min asked her daughter awkwardly.

Ye Ji just looked up and just nodded. Her palms were sweating so much that she could make pool out of her sweat right now.

"The chef made everything you like!" Tae Ji said trying to start up a conversation but his was shattered when his just just gave another nod.

"It has been so long since we ate like this!" Ye Min said forcing a laugh, Tae Ji and Maria joined the laugh but when Ye Ji didn't even gave a smile they stopped.

"What would you like to start with, miss?" Maria asked.

Ye Ji looked around and saw her favorite food. Apple pie.

"Did...mom make it?" she asked pointing to the pie.

"Ah! The chef made it..." Maria replied in a gloomy tone, placing the pie on her plate.

Ye Ji just nodded at that. What was she expecting? Her mother was a busy woman, there was no way she could've made it.

"You like my apple pie?"

Ye Ji looked up and saw her mother smiling at her.

She quickly looked down and quietly ate the pie.

"I will make for you,"

Ye Ji looked at her mother and flashed a smile and gave a slight nod and then went back on eating the pie.

"We are your parents." Tae Ji said.

"You can tell us anything you want. We are there for you. No need to be afraid of us."

Ye Ji stopped eating at that last line. She took a deep breath.

'I can do this.'

She looked up at her parents,

"I want to become a doctor."
