It wasn't until the next day that everyone felt that it was safe to leave the room. When we existed a gruesome sight was in front of us. Blood, there was blood everywhere. Accompanied by pieces of flesh and body parts. It was like the person those bits once were got torn to shreds, making them unrecognisable. It was only than that I realised how lucky I really were as I could have been one of them. And with those thoughts I didn't know how to feel, should I feel relieved I wasn't one of them? Fear for what it was that did this? Or sorrow for the people that lost there lives? Maybe a mixture of all three would be more reasonable but my mind seems dead set on only one of those options. It was overwhelming to say the least, so much so that a faint ringing in my ears came and it got harder to hear what the others had to say. 'but if we managed to make it by simply hiding in a room.. how stupid did they have to be in order to get hurt by it, or killed?' that thought almost scared me. Why would I think that? They were obviously scared and too panicked too think, and not as lucky that mrs.Miller helpedthemlike she helped us. Right? "Hey, Sarah? you there? Common let's move away from here.." Mary's soft spoken voice broke me out of my haze to discover that everyone was leaving the school.
When we arrived outside it was clear to see that the damage of yesterday was far greater than what any of us had hoped for. What remains of our little town was close to nothing of its former glory, many houses destroyed, cars broken and it was quiet nothing like how it was before not only that but there was spots of blood everywhere making it seem more empty than what it was. Yes it might have been a small place there was always something, now? there was nothing. Not to surprising either as many received the same fate as those in the school. And just imagining how the rest of the world looked was a horrifying image. What even was left? Where there other survivors or were we the only ones? ' No dont think like that..' . Such negative thoughts would bring no good, and besides we cant be the only ones left in the world. ' not after one night atleast...'.
For a while we just stared out upon the town not knowing what to do. It had to have been around an hour before Matthew broke the silence " What do we do now?." Right, the million dollar question, What now? "should we see if there are other survivors?" was mrs. Miller proposal but it was quickly shot down by Amber " Even though it would be ideal to do that. Survival wise, it would be better to fine supplies." " yea, and in the meantime let's not run into whatever did this." I didn't really realise before Mary pointed it out that what did this is still out there somewhere. And that truly wasn't something I'd like to meet. And so we began walking around trying to find something that we could use. We agreed on searching houses first on the chance that it was less likely to run into anything. But other than a few cans and two water bottles there wasn't anything we could find in houses so they were probably already plundered by other survivors and so we were forced to look elsewhere.
As it was turning dark it was decided that it would be best to take shelter in the library. That being said, something felt.. wrong. I couldn't quite put my finger on it and that really annoyed me. 'what could be wrong now? It doesn't make sense, am I just being paranoid? Maybe it has something to do with the suspiciously uneventful day. Or maybe something really is wr-' . A scream broke through my internal ramble and put everyone on high alert. "what was that?" And then there was more screams louder this time, indicating that what's making it is getting closer. "It might be someone that needs help! We have to go help them" Matthew already halfway through the door yelled behind him urging us to follow him. "Come back here now! It's not safe!" despite Amber's attempts to hold him back he immediately left, ignoring her. Seeing this she ran after him and I followed feeling like that if I didn't follow they wouldn't return. "I'll be back soon, make sure no one else leaves!" And with that I sped up trying to catch up with her and help her find Matthew. I could tell she was scared of what would happen if we didn't get there in time, and normally I would try to comfort her, but at this point? Any sort of reassurance of his safety are straight up lies. And I don't want to get her hopes up just to be crushed.
As the screams got louder we finally caught sight of Matthew and managed to stop him. "What are you doing?! Someone could be hurt! we have to help them!" his point proven by the increasingly loud screams. "What we're doing!? What about you! What were you thinking running out here by yourself!?" Knowing I had no place in their argument I simply kept watch over them to make sure nothing attack us. While who's screaming gets closer, I really want to leave, after all why are they screaming so much? What is it that making them scream? "Am I just going to ignore them!? I dont know if you've noticed, but I'm not as heartless as you!" "heartless!? You think I'm heartless!? What can I do to make you see that there more important things than to play hero!" There yelling was drawing it closer, and it was also gaining the attention from other thing too. This couldn't continue. "Both of you shut up! Be quiet. Something's coming" It was finally than that the person who was screaming rounded the corner and became visible for us though still far away. It was Mr. Patrickson. He owned a shop nearby filled with whatever one could need. He's a nice guy though not many personally know him. But right now hes covered in big gashes from head to toe soaking him with his own blood. Even one of his arms was missing as well, and a part of his face is gone. What could have done this?! The answer came sooner than I thought. As right on his heels was a group of ... people? They looked human but at the same time they didn't. They looked like they went thoughthe same thing as mr.Patrickson did only for them it was worse as there unrecognisable with how torn apart they were. And when I think about it they looked like stereotypical zombies from movies and series. "We have to help him!" "No we cant! Its already too late! Why cant you get that!" "Both of you stop! You need to be quiet or else you'll bring them right too us." Those things have finally caught up to Mr. Patrickson officially making it too late to save him. The screams were now louder than ever as they tore him apart, and the only thing we could do was watch. The sight before us was something that would probably never leave us. "Its all you guys fault! We could have saved him! But no, you just had to hinder that" "Matthew, what I and Sarah was trying to do was save you! Do you truly believe you have a chance to win against those-those things! Well do you! If we didn't stop you, you would've been there aswell, torn apart and eaten by them. Is that what you want!?" "You're wrong! That wouldn't have happened! I could have grabbed Mr. Patrickson and run from them! And no one would've been hurt or killed!" "And where would you have run of to!? Back to the library? And brought those things to the rest of us?!" Not wanting to listen to the rest of their argument I turned my attention back to the area around us keeping an eye out. They really need to stop with their yelling. Some of those things have lost interest in Mr. Patrickson and instead have gotten an interest in the loud noise Amber and Matthew was creating. I know I should do something, but what? They wont listen to me, and now about half of the group was on the way here while the rest began dragging Mr. Patrickson somewhere 'so that's why there are no dead bodies..' No, no now's not the time. "Hey! You two! Shut up! we. need. to. go. now!" "What why-" Not bordering to listen to them I simply dragged them with me. Running in a path a bit different to the way back, not wanting to get them to follow us to the library. And I must say, those things can be fast. Some of them was catching up to us. So i did the only thing i could think of, which was to hide. I dragged both of them into a apartment complex which was surprisingly open and locked the door just as they began banging on it. " Because of both of you we have to stay here until either they leave, or we find another way out. Until then, be quiet."
