Even his nerves and mental fortitude were giving up with whatever was going on. He seemed to be losing his focus, and clarity due to the extreme tiredness.
Everything seemed to be going against him at the moment, as it truly looked like these were his last moments.
How much he would wish for this moment to be one of those cheat moments when and where the main character discovered some hidden talent, or power and reverse the situation.
