"I'm gonna come back here tomorrow. Is that cool?" I told Ali.
"Yeah sure. But not before school ends okay? I know you're smart but if you keep stacking up absences, you may not be allowed to graduate." Ali reminded me as she waved goodbye.
As soon as I left the building, I saw the orange tinge of sunset already painting the things around me.
"I guess school hours are over." I told myself, upset because I was not able to enjoy my plans for this day.
But that's also fine. I mean, something weird did happen today. Something that may just get my heart pumping and my heart beating. I honestly don't want it to end too early. If it does, then I'd be bored with life again. Same as usual.
*Sigh*
"Oh there you are Quinn. Your girlfriend's been waiting for you outside." Freddie told me. He's supposed to be finished with his shift hours ago. Maybe he took someone's place because he needed the money for that new baby.
That's really some miserable stuff right there. Having a wife and kids is like saying: "Here I am, take all my money so I'd have nothing left for myself." Well, at least that is what a normal family would look like. There are families out there which have mothers working hard while the fathers do nothing but drink all day. But again, that's none of my concern.
"Suuuup." I waved at the girl who waited for me outside.
She is someone I have known ever since I was a child. Luna Solari. During my prodigy days, she would always be part of the audience and, she would come to me after every activity I undertake. She has been such an avid fan that she even transferred to my school at some point.
"I knew you'd be here." She said with a vibrant smile.
"You should stop following me around Luna, your fiancé might get mad." I said.
Right now, that same girl has grown up into a fine woman. Well, not so fine because she's as flat as a board. But there is still hope! We are still in high school and there is a lot of room for development. There is an empty void swirling around her chest which may turn into a "big bang" later on.
Oh the other features? Well, she's a bit smaller than I am but not that small. She's above shoulder level so she isn't exactly a midget. Her hair is a long silver; a hair color that people in her clan are born with. Her skin is pale and white as snow, but her lips are a plump red. She has red eyes which doesn't go well with her gentle personality and makes her look more like a yandere girl…Shit I shouldn't have thought of that, it may just come true.
"Pshhh. He doesn't care about me, all he cares about is getting the wealth of my family." She replied.
I forgot to mention this. She is also a wealthy young woman. Her parents are the leaders of the famous Orbit corporation that has advanced technology further than any other. This is another reason why I tolerate her constant nagging and sticking on to me. She's a good ticket for me to get a job in the future.
What's that? I'm a leech you say? A good for nothing asshole? Well thank you then, I am honored that you have finally classified me into the right category.
I'd gain nothing from kindness and charity in life. All I've ever done is for my own sake, for my own survival. Caring for others will just hinder me in life. I'd let them shape me into someone else because, I would "care" about what they say and what they feel. They'd shape me into someone else until; I'd face the mirror one day and not recognize who I'm looking at anymore.
Okayyy. That's enough drama. Let's get back to the person accompanying me.
"Hey are you listening Quinn?"
"What? Oh yeah I am."
"Really? What did I say?"
"Uhmm..you talked about quantum physics?"
"Geez you're really hopeless." She said as she held my arm and stuck her chest (a.k.a. the empty void) to it.
"I said." She started.
"I would prefer it if you became my fiancé."
This is a usual thing for us. After school, she'd come look for me and stick with me until I reach home. I tried hiding from her because I don't like people following me around. But I have failed time and time again. From the moment she transferred to my school, until this point in time, she has never failed to find me.
"Well Luna, you're in for a surprise. I have a new dimension I entered just this day. Let's see if you can find me there." I told myself. But for some reason, the idea of her not finding me made me feel uneasy.
"You shouldn't say things like those out loud. Your bodyguards may hear you." I told her, seeing the guards that try to hide in plain sight. They are actually good at their job. A normal person wouldn't even be able to tell where they are. But I'm different, after spending a few days with Luna during my elementary days, I was able to figure out that there are people following. After that, finding them was a piece of cake.
"They won't betray me." She said with much assurance.
"Ohhh look at this young lady, trusting her underlings too much."
"Idiot. It's not because they're my men that I trust them. It's because I've developed a bond with them." She said cheerfully.
"Just like my dear Quinn." She continued.
"Seriously, stop it. That may give me a bad omen." I said jokingly.
"Hey can we stop at a café? You haven't eaten anything yet have you?"
"Actually I –"
*Loud stomach grumbling sounds*
"Traitor." I told my stomach
"My poor Quinn is hungry. Come on I'll treat you." Luna said as she pulled me.
"Fine." At this point I have no other option but to follow. It's free food, how can I ever go against that?
"Yaaay! Wait for a while okay?" She said as she touched the earpiece covered by her hair.
"Charles clear out the nearest café." She instructed.
I know that I've been with her for as long as I can remember but, her wealth still surprises me from time to time. There was even a moment when a special armed force unit came to school just because she tripped on a rock during a relay race. Ahh good old days.
The café was not that far from the research facility. I instantly knew that it would be the place we enter because Charles is standing just outside it.
"Hey Charles thanks for the hard work." I told him.
"One wrong move and you're dead pipsqueak." He replied. I know what he's thinking. I'm a perverted excuse for a high schooler. But believe me, I don't even see his master as a target for my favorite past time of "fondling jutsu". There's nothing to target. I might even break my bones if I try it on that sturdy wall of hers.
"Hey don't be rude to Quinn." Luna replied.
We went inside and sure enough, not a single soul is inside. Only the employees of the café are present. Other than that, it's just me and Luna.
"C-can I get your orders?" I kinda pity the waiter now. He looks so terrified, like we're some kind of terrorist organization. Well, I don't blame him. You would never expect a gang of men wearing shades and an all-black attire to suddenly come at your doorstep, telling everyone to leave.
"Earl Grey please. Oh and add a blueberry shortcake?" Luna said as she looked at their menu.
"I'll have a pesto pasta, a clubhouse sandwich, a blue lemonade, oh and a grande sized cappuccino."
Don't judge me. She said it's free. I can leech as much as I want.
"So what new experiment were you doing with professor Alice?"
"How do you know that it's her?"
"She's the only one with interesting researches right? All other stuff her workmates do are second to lego building level."
"You sure do know what I like don't you?"
"Yup. Sadly I'm not on that list yet." She said having teary eyes.
"Hey, don't tease me like that. You're not that weak of a woman to cry over something as being liked by me or not." She brought the handkerchief back to her pocket and gave a short laugh.
"Hahaha. See, you also know me quite well." She said.
"Touché"
It didn't take long for our orders to arrive. The man bringing it had the tray shaking in his hands. Even a kid would notice it but we didn't pay it any mind. Luna even giggled a little. Then we started eating. Luna told me stories and I offered facts about the things she said. To some parts she would also provide in depth explanations, but most of the time it is only me talking.
"Huh? Wait, I fell into her trap again didn't I?" I told myself as I looked at her face. How does she make me fall for this eveytime. Man.. she's good.
"You got me again." I told her.
"I don't know what you're talking about, she said after sipping some tea."
"Why do you like listening to me anyway?"
"That's because, I want to know more about you." She finally admitted in luring me to speak. If there's one thing I can't resist. It's providing information, especially when the things being explained have a poor foundation. Luna is actually smart so she knows what she is talking about. She also knows what topics would most likely make me talk.
"You got me good." I said.
"The dinner is a small price to pay to know more about Quinn Morgan." She answered.
After that, we had a more normal discussion. Like normal teenagers would. We laughed and fooled around. Little did I know that it would be the last day I would be a normal teenager.
