The ganie stood up casually, but a flame was burning in his heart. It had seen how all the others had been thrown off, but it wasn't discouraged. It could tell from one look that whatever it was that was sending the others flying, would be greatly beneficial. If he could absorb it without dying of course.
The other ganie hadn't noticed it yet, and were too busy trying to get to the skull to even put any effort into noticing, but he had picked it up. The power contained within that blast was more than any of them could imagine. If any of them managed to get even a smidgen of it, who knew how much stronger they'll become.
He snuck closer to the yemephu and waited along with the others for an opportunity to jump onto the body of the unsuspecting yemephu. When the pulse came, he was ready. The ganie at the top had been blasted off, and the power diminished as it came down from the origin.
The ganie at the bottom that hadn't been shot off saw the opening on the skull and began to make their way towards it. Those that surrounded him weren't willing to let any other person get their hand on the skull contents and took off after the others.
He wasn't really concerned about them, he knew that they were rushing to their deaths, his instincts told him so. He jumped onto the foot of the yemephu and immediately began wrapping its hairs around the foot. The others jumped on him and he did his best to hold on, secreting as much slime as possible.
He soon heard the cries of the ganie who had run to the top and he knew that the pulse was coming. His hairs swarmed, secreting as much slime as possible, trying to find the best way to infiltrate the yemephu's body. But the skin of the yemephu was too hard to penetrate in one try.
The pulse reached him before he could make any actual progress. It rocked him down to his bones and he could feel his entire being shake. Not even his mind was spared. He felt like a rock on the side of the road being kicked by anyone that passed by. Tumbling and tumbling until infinity. Yet as his mind began to go white and he could feel himself being tossed and turned annals of time he held tightly onto whatever it was he was holding onto.
He came to when the next wave of ganie began to climb. There had only been 3-4 waves by his estimates, yet their numbers had been reduced to the barest minimum. The original 16 or so ganie that had been so many that not all of them could fit on the yemephu's body had reduced to barely five, him included.
He disregarded that piece of information and wanted to turn his attention back to the work that was at hand, only for him to realise that the work he had managed to do before had ended up being undone. He almost ran mad. Normally he would take his time to ingrain his hairs into the yemephu. Their skin was so tough that their claws, which could easily cut through stone, needed a few tries to make just a small incision on the skin.
But now he didn't have time for such luxuries as taking time to ingrain his hairs into the yemephu's body. The strange yemephu hanging from the roof of the cave already healed faster than his slime could break down the skin, such a healing was unprecedented but it wasn't enough to discourage him.
He didn't stop trying to break down the skin with his slime but his mind was whirring as fast as it could, trying to think of ways he could break the skin. Inspiration struck at the same time as the next pulse, he felt the energy go through his body and his entire being violently shake, but through it all he held onto the idea in his head, waiting for it to pass over.
It did and this time the ganie was ready. The moment he stopped being shaken he attacked the yemephu's foot with his claws. It was awkward and his position on the yemephu's body didn't allow him to release the amount of power he wished to release, but it worked. Four strikes later he had broken through the skin of the yemephu.
His hairs rushed into the injury he had made before the yemephu could heal back, absorbing as much from the injury as he could before the pulse hit. The blood was broken down by the mass of hair that had stuffed themselves into the small wound and the nutrients were directly absorbed by it.
He shivered.
The blood was the most nutritious thing he had absorbed since he was born. He had no idea how it tasted but it seemed to contain some kind of hidden energy that seemed to boost the effectiveness of the nutrients it carried. Moreover, whatever that energy was, it seemed to speed up the speed at which the nutrients broke down, allowing him to digest what would have been a full meal in a matter of seconds.
Its eyes shone as it came to realise that even the energy itself was broken down into something his body could absorb and was quickly assimilated. It could already feel the minute changes taking place within its body and it could be nothing but overjoyed. It quickened the pace at which it absorbed, trying its best to widen the injury so it could stuff more hairs into it.
Then it was hit by the pulse. He felt his entire being being shaken, but it was no longer trying to hold on. It had finally understood the reason behind the yemephu's increased healing, the thing that pushed the pulse. It was all because of the energy that was within it. That was why it was so powerful. Why it could take down ganie after ganie. Why the yemephu's blood was so good and so quick to digest.
It was all because of that energy. And now as the force of the energy forced him off the yemephu's body he could no longer think of holding on, after all that would only divide and waste his energy.
Energy that could be put to good use doing something else. Such as absorbing the energy that was now forcing their way into his body.
He removed any thing that stopped the energy from flowing into his body and even sped up the hair's absorption process, doing everything in his power to get as much energy as he could from this pulse, knowing fully well that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
He hit the floor with a bang, and he felt his bone creak and pain flooded his body, but yet, his mind was only full of pleasure. His body was severely damaged, but as the energy that he had absorbed began to break down in his body he could already feel his body healing.
After his body had been completely healed the energy began to improve his body. He felt his claws grow stronger and the slime on his hairs grew more corrosive. In a matter of seconds, he felt his body rapidly increase in size, his skin toughening beyond what he could imagine.
But the transformation didn't end there. As the energy finished transforming his body he seemed to rush to his brain and began transforming it. He suddenly felt his intelligence rapidly increase, rising and rising until finally it seemed to hit some kind of barrier and the energy within it exploded out in a sphere, charging the air within the sphere with energy particles.
The energy within the air flitted around moving slowly until on seemed to have come in contact with something. The energy in the air soon began to rearrange themselves, compacting together to form a line of energy that connected him with the yemephu.
Or at least that was what it thought until it looked it looked up and saw the rock sitting with a certain majesty on the chest of the yemephu.
