Chapter 6 - The General's son

"Luke!"

"What princess? Can your horse not keep up?" Luke taunts.

He stops. He takes a good look at Agrio before saying. "It looks like Genikòs, acts like him, even sounds like him but his white blotches are replaced with buckskin. Who is this horse exactly?"

This is Agrio. The General's son.

"Luna!"

"What Genikòs?" she replies.

"Same time tomorrow?" Genikòs asks the mare. Luna stops. She turns toward him, her dark mane flows in the breeze and the grey seemed to overpower the blue in her eyes but they still twinkled in the moonlight. "Same place." Luna finally says. Then she turns with a snort and gallops away, her buckskin coat shimmering in the night.

Genikòs watched the kiger mustang gallop away before heading back to the camp. Once he reached the stables he walked himself into the stall and made it seem as he'd never left.

With him being the clever horse he was, Genikòs was careful to not get caught sneaking out to meet Luna at night.

They met in the center of the circle of stones and watched the stars and clouds all through the night. They slept and Genikòs was up the moment the sun rised as he needed to get back. The paint and the mustang met every night for a few months.

Until one night.

Luna was pregnant yet Genikòs had not arrived at the circle. Luna knew where Genikòs came from and returned to every day.

Luna went to check out the war camp and saw nothing but misery. Luna spotted Genikòs being ridden by a saddened king and next to a dark brown yearling being ridden by a princess who had an expression that Luna knew all too well. The young princess was trying to be strong, but the sadness in her eyes and pink nose had indicated Luna that she'd been crying.

"Genikòs I'm so sorry," Luna muttered.
