Sora was lying on a bed with his eyes closed and his hands behind his head.
'I-I am afraid this person doesn't possess any magic power at all'
Sora remembered fortune's teller shocked look while saying those words. He opened his eyes and looked on the ceiling. Therefore, Sora turned his look to the book that he received from the king this evening.
'A strange man appeared in the castle and left this book, saying when someone, claiming that has no magic power, comes to give it to him'
Sora remembered what king said when entrusted him that book this evening in the throne room.
'I believe this book is a grimoire. There are many different meanings for grimoires depending on the person you ask. Some people believe grimoires are magic books, used to save a massive amount of magic spells. Others believe that some people in old times wrote grimoires and when someone opens them, they learn all the spells that were written on them. I wonder though if that was the reason to give me this weapon'
Sora stood up and walked to the table where the grimoire was on.
'Might as well take a little peek'
Sora took the book and went to sit on his bed.
'Considering I don't have any magic; it should be the second one'
Sora opened the book slowly and saw the first page. It had nothing written on it. Sora seemed astonished. He quickly started turning the pages of the grimoire fast, but everyone of it was blank.
'No, there should be one page that has something written on it'
Sora looked on all the pages but there was nothing. He was disappointed when the book's first page started shining. Sora was surprised and started hearing a young girly voice inside his head.
'My name is the cursed grimoire passing through generations'
Sora threw the book and put his hand on his head. He started screaming and he seemed to be in a lot of pain.
'You, Murakami Sora, are the next successor of me'
Sora fell on the ground while shouting. Airi that was in a room above him heard his screaming and rushed downstairs.
'We should seal our contract with writing the first page of the book'
Sora put his hands in front of his mouth. He felt dizzy and ready to puke. Suddenly, he puked a big amount of blood and the blood went on the first page of the grimoire while some of it spread around the floor. The book slowly absorbed the blood and left only some of it that wrote the first page. Airi just got in front of Sora's room and shouted.
"Sora is everything alright?"
No one answered and Airi opened the door. She seemed shocked while seeing Sora unconscious on the ground with blood around him. She rushed next to him and sat down.
"Are you ok? What happened?"
Izanami was at the end of the hallway, behind a wall.
"Sora, I see…"
She turned around and walked away. Sora was sleeping in his room when sunlight hit his eyes. He slowly opened his eyes and after some time he raised his back. Sora touched the floor with his feet and stood up.
'What happened last night? My head…'
Sora felt dizzy and put his hand forehead.
'Oh yeah, I opened the grimoire and—'
The door opened and Airi walked inside holding two glasses filled with tea.
"Good morning Sora, how do you feel?"
Airi had a smile on her face. They were sitting in two chairs on the table that it was inside Sora's room.
"So, you found me lying on the floor unconscious with blood around me"
Sora remembered the voice he heard before he fainted.
'What was that voice…?"
"Yes, then I healed you up with my magic power and cured you. You were screaming some minutes before I came. Also, you had a pretty big bloodlust, what exactly happened?"
Airi seemed concerned about Sora's state. Sora sipped some tea from the glass he had in front of him. He put the glass on the table and he touched his forehead with his hand.
"I remember I opened the grimoire. Then I heard a voice inside my head and soon after I puked. I don't know what that was, but it seems it was unavoidable if I wanted to use the book"
"I see"
Airi started wondering.
"Sora, why don't you try to open the book"
Sora seemed surprised.
"Why should I do that? The last thing I want right now is to puke blood and fall unconscious"
"When I found you lying on the floor, I saw some weird letters on your book's first page"
"Wait, you did? I mean I saw it blank, like a prank from someone"
Sora stood up and went to his bed to grab his book. He took it and sat in his chair again. Sora opened the book and saw the first page had letters on it. He tried to read it.
"The contract has been sealed"
It was written on the book's first page as a tittle with red letters. The rest of the page had weird letters.
"I can't read the rest…"
"Don't worry, I am sure you'll find out one day"
Sora looked to Airi that was smiling warmly. Sora smiled with a determined look.
"Alright"
"Oh, I just remembered. King asked us to appear this morning in the throne room. I told him about your conditions so he told me that I should stay with you till you wake up and then we can go together"
They stood up and got out of the room. They were bowing in front of the king in the throne room.
"Apologizes, your majesty for being late, but yesterday I had an incident and today I woke up rather late"
"Don't worry young man, Airi told me and I totally understand the reason you didn't show up today"
'Thank god'
Sora seemed relieved
"I called you here today to tell you that your adventure as a hero begins right now. I will give both of you five hundred gold coins to buy good gear and have if you ever need it"
A knight walked closer to Sora and Airi and gave them two bags filled with gold coins. They took the bags and put them in their pockets.
"We appreciate the kindness you showed us, your majesty"
Airi sounded thankful. Sora and Airi were walking on a bustling street. Sora looked around.
"Why is it so crowded today?"
"I think that's the main street, so it's only natural it's crowded"
"I see"
Sora and Airi opened the door of a store saying 'Black Smith'. A bell rang when they opened the door.
"Welcome"
A girly voice said. They walked inside and saw a girl with red long hair and a bandage around her forehead. Airi walked to the bar where the girl was.
"We are looking for a good gear please"
"Of course, it's this way"
The girl pointed in the left.
"Thanks"
Airi and Sora walked towards that direction and saw many beautiful gears hanging around the walls. Airi seemed pretty excited and she was looking at every one of it.
"What about that?... That's so cute~…Oh that's nice as well"
Airi sat in front of a corner with her hands on her face looking disappointed.
"I can't decide…"
Sora looked at her and then look on a red armor.
"I think I'll go for this"
After some time Airi decided on a pink armor that had leggings, pink armrests, and a pink top that covered till her chest.
'Wow 500 coins for this armor'
Sora and Airi were wearing the armor they just picked up from the store.
"Is that really thing an armor? I mean they can stab right through my sweet belly"
Airi put her hands in her belly and sounded sad and frightened. Sora smiled anxiously.
"D-Don't worry about it"
Airi walked close to Sora and caught his hand. She had a resulted look on her face
"So you mean you will protect me?"
Sora blushed and looked away.
"I-I'll try"
"Then it's a promise"
Airi smiled kindly. Not long after, they got outside of the town and they were walking inside a forest.
"So, here we are gonna find monsters to fight, correct?"
"Yeah, I don't think you can fight with healing abilities. This leaves the fighting to me"
"You said you will protect me so even if I was able to fight, I shouldn't, it's your job!"
Airi pouted and looked the other way.
"Yeah, yeah. I made a promise and I tend to keep it"
Airi's face was filled with happiness.
"Really?"
Sora sighed and smiled warmly.
"Yes really"
'I can't believe she learn to use magic in just a day and less; she is gonna get stronger that's for sure'
Suddenly a bush started to make weird noises while its leaves started shaking. Sora walked in front of Airi and grabbed his book with his hand. A bunny came out slowly from the bush. They both sighed gladly and Airi walked closer to the bunny to caress it. Sora seemed shocked as he heard something coming fast.
"Look out!"
Sora jumped and pushed Airi and a big wolf with black fur and red eyes that were shining.
"Alright it's time to test the grimoire's power"
Sora opened the book on the second page but it was blank. He seemed astonished and started changing all the pages.
"It's blank!"
"What?"
Airi sounded anxious.
'I should have checked other pages too not only the first one'
The wolf started running towards them. Sora was turning the pages faster.
'Come on, it should be somewhere around here'
The wolf jumped towards Sora.
"Angel's defense"
A yellow circle appeared around Sora and the wolf got knocked behind and left inside the forest.
"What was that?"
Sora was surprised and looked to Airi. Airi fell on the ground and Sora caught her.
"It's called Angel's defense; with this ability, I use many of my power to protect someone from physical or magical attacks. The more powerful the opponent's attack the more exhausted I get"
Airi sounded worn out.
"Sorry you had to do this; I didn't know the grimoire was empty…"
"Don't worry about it, I know you didn't"
Airi smiled cheerfully. After some time, they got up and started walking towards the town. Airi realized a scar on Sora's hand.
"This scar is from the fall you did to save me, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it's nothing though, I hardly feel it"
"Let me heal your wound up"
They stopped before they joined the town. Airi put her hands on his wound and his scar started shining green and then disappeared.
"It's all done!"
"You shouldn't do it, though; you need to rest"
Airi looked at Sora irritated and pouted.
"If I couldn't do it, I would inform you. Also thanks for the way you saved me from that monster"
"Don't mention it, you saved me too so we are even!"
Airi giggled.
"I guess we are, aren't we?"
Sora looked on Airi while she was laughing and sighed.
"Mmhm, we are"
Sora smiled warmly.
