Chereads / The Next Successor Of The Grimoire / Chapter 7 - The Berserker Elf

Chapter 7 - The Berserker Elf

It was a bright morning. Sora and Yui were walking in the main street of the town. He looked at Yui.

'This means, starting tomorrow I am going to train you.'

He remembered what he said last night to her. Yui smiled and aimed at a shop that was near them.

"There it is! That's the place I was telling you about."

She sounded pretty enthusiastic and turned her look to Sora. Her eyes were shining out of happiness.

'What's so exciting about a weapon shop?'

Yui caught his hand and started running towards the shop. They opened the door and walked inside. There were plenty of weapons around; swords, bows, staves and others. Yui was looking surprised at all the different weapons that were around the shop. Sora was looking at her being enthusiastic.

"What's all the hype about?"

"Whenever I was looking at the showcase, every one of those things seemed pretty cute"

'I didn't know there were females that were into this kind of thing, but she didn't avoid the cute part...'

She turned her look to Sora.

"So, Sora, what weapon will I use? A sword? A bow?"

Sora started thinking.

'Hmm... I am a sorcerer until I learn some support and healing skills. So, we don't need a damage dealer for the time being... I think I'll need her to go something more front-line like. A tank won't do since I don't have any powerful skills to cover her...Hmm...'

He looked around the different weapons. He noticed a big sword hanging next to a shelf.

"That's it!"

Yui wondered, saw him walking and picking up that big sword.

'A berserker will be what we need. Berserkers are front-liners with damage and health. But I think the sword is kinda heavy for her… I doubt she will be able to wild it in battle'

He looked at her being speechless while looking at the sword.

"Ugh, I know it was a stupid idea; I'm going to find a weapon that will suit you more."

Sora was going to leave the sword back to the place he took it from when Yui caught his hand.

"I love it"

He seemed surprised by her reaction.

"B-But, how will you wild it; It's heavy you know"

"This is the weapon you chose for me, so I will find a way to use it"

"I-"

Sora saw her desperate expression and sighed.

"If you are sure, it's fine"

Her face shined from happiness. After Sora paid with the pack of gold he found next to Airi's staff, they were standing outside of the shop. Yui was holding her sword and bowed towards Sora.

"I am grateful for all of your help; I hope one day I will be able to pay you back"

"Um..."

He scratched the back of his head.

"Your hard work and help in fights will be more than enough to help me..."

"I-I... I'll do my best, and if my best isn't enough, I'll do even better!"

He looked at the determined look Yui had on her face.

"Alright..."

Sora started walking.

"Let's get going, we have to learn your magic"

"Yes!"

They made it to a big building. Sora opened the door and they walked inside. A young man was behind the reception, drinking some tea, and reading a paper. He realized customers had entered and he left the tea on the table. The young man stood up and looked at them.

"Good morning, how may I help you today?"

"I am here to find out about someone's magic, I've heard you are one of those people that can"

"Indeed, please come in"

Sora walked in and Yui was hiding behind his back.

"So, sir, whose magic power do you need to learn?"

He moved aside and showed Yui. Suddenly, the young man's face was filled with enthusiasm and ran next to Yui. He caught her hand and kneeled.

"Oh, my sweet Yui, it's so exciting I get to see you again! How are you? Where have you been?"

Sora saw the embarrassed look on Yui's face. She slightly hugged Sora when the young man was asking her questions.

"I think you bother her"

Sora sounded cold.

"Sorry about that, it's just that I was worried about her"

The young man stood up and bowed in front of Sora and Yui.

"My name is Goto Kosumi, nice to meet you, sir"

Kosumi offered his hand for a handshake.

"The name is Sora"

He shook Kosumi's hand.

"So, as you said sir, you want me to find Yui's magic, correct?"

"Indeed"

Yui stood next to Sora and Kosumi put his hand in her forehead and a circle appeared. He closed his eyes and concentrated. After some time he was done and took his hand off her head.

"Your passive magic is Fire, but there is a problem with your active magic"

"Explain yourself"

Kosumi turned his look to Sora.

"Her active magic is light, which is a pretty powerful element. It will be hard for her to master, but at the moment, I suggest you don't try to use it"

"Oh, I see"

Yui sounded unhappy.

"Her mana levels are pretty normal; If she learns powerful light and fire spells, she should try to maintain mana in case something happens."

Sora put his hand under his chin.

"So, you are telling me that using light can cost a lot of mana? If that's the chase, she needs to control her mana until that time"

"Exactly"

A day has passed and Sora was sleeping in his bed. He slowly opened his eyes and raised his back. He saw Yui sitting in a chair near the bed.

"Hm? Yui? Were you awake all this time?"

Yui was shocked.

"Oh, no. I woke up some minutes ago and got ready. I was sitting here waiting for you to wake up. My deepest apologies if I woke you up Sora"

"It was nothing of the short, I woke up by myself don't worry about it"

Yui seemed relieved.

"I'm glad to hear that"

After some time, Sora was outside of the city with Yui inside a big forest.

"Here we are Yui, to unlock new abilities you have to level up. To level up, you have to kill monsters."

"I understand."

He seemed shocked.

"I didn't know you are willing to kill monsters."

"As long as I can revenge those bad people and pay you back for the good things you've given me, I will do whatever it takes"

He smiled.

"Good to know that."

He noticed a wolf was running towards Yui.

'No, that's–"

Sora remembered the wolf that attacked him when he was training with Airi.

"Watch out!"

He pulled Yui out of its attack and went in front of her.

"Yui, that monster is dangerous; try to not–"

She started running towards that wolf while hardly holding the sword that Sora bought her.

'I can't be any help to Sora if I don't win a low monster like this?'

She raised her sword and sliced it too. Yui started panting and Sora patted her head.

"You did a great job"

She saw him and smiled.

"Thanks! I think I learned a new skill as well!"

"Oh, really?"

"Yes, a fire passive skill"

Yui looked at her sword.

"Fire magic, Flame weapon"

Her sword was covered in fire.

"Wow, incredible! Seems like a cursed ability"

"A curse ability?"

"Something like if you hit someone with that passive, you are going to curse them and cover them to fire"

"I see"

'I don't think I can use that, to be honest'

Several days have passed and some people were sitting around a big table.

"It's time"

One of them said and smiled evilly. The same morning Sora and Yui were walking towards the forest.

'Days have passed in farming and we both reached 20lvl, but none of us have unlocked any new abilities. I start doubting I unlock abilities, let's hope for the best'

He sighed. A little boy badly hurt was walking outside of the forest. He fell to the ground and Yui panicked and started running towards him.

"Are you okay?"

Sora followed her and she took the little boy in her hug.

"Can you talk to me? What happened?"

"They... They left me free... The others are..."

The boy slowly started talking lighter and lighter when he fainted in Yui's hands.

"We need to help him and fast"

"Let's go back to the village Sora, I think Kosumi can help us out"

Sora nodded positively. It was nearly midnight. The boy was lying in a bed and Sora, Yui and Kosumi around the bed sitting on chairs.

"Can someone explain to me what's going on? I can't understand how an empire just let those criminals be."

Sora was speaking loudly.

"It's not their fault Sora..."

He turned his look to Kosumi.

"As the old man told you, there are two goddesses."

"Yes, Kazumi and Hanako, good and bad. What does this have to do with them?"

Kasumi sighed disappointedly.

"Just like in your world, people can believe in whoever they want to... There are two sides, Kazumi's side and Hanako's side. You will hardly find people attacking you for what you believe, but when you find those kinds of people, they aren't going to be weak..."

"I see, so it's like a civil war?"

"Yes, you can call it that. King can't do anything for it because the amount of people on both sides is pretty big. If he commands all of this to stop, then people from Hanako's side will be mad about it since there will be peace like Kazumi's people want."

"Indeed, the king can't do anything like that, because that will lead to a very bad civil war..."

'Damn it, what can we do about it..."

"Although, as I stated, taking part in this as a protector of those people isn't illegal. If you ever want to do something about it, that's the only thing you can do"

The boy started coughing. Everyone looked at him while he was opening his eyes.

"You are awake!"

Yui sounded happy.

"We are going to talk with him tomorrow, it's pretty late Yui, let's go home"

Yui turned her look to Sora.

"Mmhm"

After some time, Sora and Yui went back to their room. They lied in their bed and slept for the night. Suddenly, Sora woke up in a weird place. It was a white place covered in fog. He saw his hands confused.

'Where am I? What is this place?'

He looked around in the fog. He saw a shadow near him.

"Hey, who are you? Where am I?"

He shouted towards the shadow. The shadow giggled with a cute young girly voice.

"We will meet soon eye to eye don't worry. For now, though, I want to inform you that the upcoming battle won't be easy, don't let your guard down no matter what!"

He started running towards the shadow.

"Wait I–"
